"What are you waiting for? GO, NOW!" Andre exclaims as he throws the keys at me.
"B-but... I can't..."
"What do you mean you can't?"
"It's manual."
"What?"
Andre stares at me dumbfounded making me blush profusely.
"I can only drive an automatic." I whisper and bow my head down sheepishly, feeling extremely mortified at revealing my secret at this hour of reckoning.
"Tell me you're joking?"
I just shrug my shoulders, what does he want me to say? I just admitted to my deepest darkest secret and he wants to humiliate me more.
"But how.... Oh just forget it, let's switch places."
He gets up to switch places with me and so I follow his lead. Holding his seat for support, I get my ass off the driver's seat and lift my leg to shift to the other side when suddenly a loud noise cracks through the air making us jump in time before a bullet whizzes right in between us.
I shriek and cower back in my seat with terror, trying to protect myself from being shot at again.
"START THE CAR!"
"BUT I TOLD YOU I CAN'T!"
"Do you see any other way of getting out of here? I'll shift the gears, you drive."
"Okay, okay. But if we end up dead, it's all on you."
When no answer comes from that evil man's mouth and he only glares at me, I sigh and focus on the paddles while starting the ignition.
"Let's see now."
"Just remember, press in the clutch when applying the break and when I tell you to."
"Okay. Well here goes nothing.."
"That's the clutch." Andre points towards one of the paddles as I'm about to drive.
"Of course I know that. I'm not stupid." I criticize him and he just rolls his eyes at me in return. The nerve of the guy.
Another gun is fired at us when we reverse the car bumpily. Andre shifts the gear and as the men approach us and the shooting becomes aggressive, he orders, "GO, GO, GO.."
Stepping on the paddle, off we go into a direction I hope we lose them in and survive.
*********
I feel like I have aged into fifty years since the last time I wasn't driving this stupid manual thing. And what's even more ironic is the time this car is presently showing. According to it, we have been driving for five minutes. Hah! It's definitely broken.
"CLUTCH!"
Pressing in the clutch as if my life depends on it, I steer the car away from the oncoming traffic. We are driving on the wrong side of the road with three detrimental SUV's following us at an energetic velocity, and Andre shifting the gear for the third time after shouting the word 'clutch' at me. My life couldn't get any worse at this moment.
"Step on the paddle, what are you afraid of?"
"Erm... DYING I guess."
"Quick, take the right turn. And press in the clutch if you're going to apply an abrupt brake this time."
"I seriously don't get the need to do that. Nothing happens if I apply it." I say as I turn right in full force.
"You'll damage my car woman, now speed up."
