Kaisa leaned against the edge, her fingertips brushed the rhythmic waves as the boat glided across the sea. She thumbed the seashell on her necklace, it reminded her of the shorelines in her hometown.
"You can open your eyes now~"
Kaisa and Kairi opened their eyes and found a seashell necklace around their necks. Their faces lit up, eyes glowing in awe, "Wow!!"
"Surprise!! Happy birthday~ Kaisa and Kairi~" Kaito grinned and patted their heads. Their parents had passed away early, he didn't have much to gift his sisters anything grand or lavish. All he could do was to pick up some seashells from the beach, and to wish that someday he could gift them proper gifts.
Kaisa sighed softly.
To some extent, her brother Kaito was a stupid person.
He would spend time picking out the juvenile fish from the nets every day, he would give the widows or old people fish for free, he would never hesitate to free costly bycatch like dolphins or small sharks.
Kaito was never the type to take advantage of any situation, he was the glue that stuck the three siblings together. Yet his kindness was always taken advantage of, the three of them had gone on separate ways since his untimely death.
"Tamaki-san? Sorry to bother you but I have a question," scratching his head, a fellow demon slayer approached her, "I kind of forgotten where I should stand... I am responsible for holding the lantern. Do you have an idea? The others don't really know."
"You will be standing in front of me and Kanae-san," Kaisa answered without hesitation.
"Oh! I see now, thank you so much!" the slayer let out a relieved breath, "I thought I was gonna mess up!"
"Never knew you were this attentive," Kanae chuckled and nudged Kaisa playfully. In her experience, Kaisa only listens half heartedly for most of the times.
"Nah... Not really," Kaisa shrugged, "I... I was sold to the red light district when I was younger so... yea... I'm familiar with this kind of stuff."
"O-Oh..." Kanae instantly felt bad for the tease a moment ago. That was a place where price tags were attached to people, where boys and girls were robbed of their futures, where dignity could be easily bought and sold. She lowered her head, "Sorry... Kaisa-chan... I never knew..."
"It's okay, it's long gone in the past," Kaisa gave a dismissive wave of her hand, "Besides, I don't really feel too bad about it anymore, if I don't think about it. My aunt didn't know how to run the fabric company after my uncle passed, she ended up selling me off to pay her loans. The only thing I feel bad about is probably my voice... it used to sound so much better. Anyways... I'm here now, right?"
"You're brave, Kaisa-chan," Kanae smiled.
"Ha? No way, I'm not as brave as you think," Kaisa rubbed her neck, she couldn't even face her own little sister.
"No no~ We're all being brave to slay demons everyday right? Don't lie to me and say that you've never felt scared," Kanae patted Kaisa's shoulder, "Kaisa-chan... Promise me to appreciate yourself more alright? It seems to me that... You're always blaming yourself for something."
Kaisa was about to answer when the boat neared the massive ship.
"Alright! Time to board!!" the tea house owner snapped his fingers, "Please line up and come this way! Everyone!"

"Giyu! Letter!" Nana squawked on Giyu's shoulder and pecked on his collar, "That way!! Idiot!!"Giyu knitted his brows and rubbed his ears, trying his very best to comply to the cockatoo's instructions.
