"Creation sets off destruction," Jean's voice echoed in his mind before him and Daisy left. "You'll know what that means when the time comes."
Adam didn't know what any of that meant, but he knew it couldn't be anything good. His gaze rose upon the sky, where on the horizon, about the size of the moon, the enemies were approaching. It was a terrifying sight to be reminded such that at any time, those aliens could speed up or just fire away, and none of them would be able to tell.
Some part of him wished he could leave Earth and never come back. There could surely be life somewhere out there and he surviving this mass destruction would be just a matter of evasion.
But he knew Daisy would never leave. She could complain and cry all she liked, but at the end of the day, she still fought for her family too much to think beyond it.
Adam could get behind respecting that, even though most of his emotional attachments got crushed. Daisy was the last string of humanity keeping him from leaving this world for a better one.
He owed it to her, after saving him so many times. And she was the last breathing person to have seen his shit ass life. Adam may have had a family, but as soon as his mutation triggered, he lost everything, all dreams, friends, life.
His partner back then had a saying: the greater the gift, the more you have to lose to keep it.
Adam was starting to understand those words. He could create planets and reshape the universe, but really, he forgot how it was to live in the meantime.
Ever since she agreed on training to use more of her mutation and find out new limits, Daisy did take the lessons seriously. She was raised into a very collected manner, where discipline got imprinted on her mind, almost as much as her need to gain control in order to be considered worthy.
A containment area was made by Hank's prototype force fields around Daisy's training grounds, far away of the school, on the property. The goal: making her use at least two DNA strands stocked at once. It was her choice to use what she learnt from both Charles and Erik, but really, it didn't came as a surprise.
So she would start by holding up a car, tearing it apart and building it up together. Charles would attempt getting inside her mind and without droping the vehicle, she should try to block him out.
"I don't care about what happens to me. You just make sure I can't hurt anyone else." Daisy's words echoed in Erik's mind as he watched from outside the force fields.
Charles was inside the barrier, right in front of him, close enough to be pulled through if anything were to happen. Erik didn't expect Charles to turn back so radically changed after that UN meeting but once he heard what had happened, he understood that at last, his eyes have been opened to the cruel reality of this world.
Of course, he reminded Erik that not all humans were to blame, but admitting that they were considered the enemy was an improvement from simply denying their state. This worried, determined Charles that wanted to badly to do right by Daisy and stop forcing boundaries was a pleasant surprise to Erik and all the years they have spent fighting over different views.
"Fuck!" Daisy shouted the moment her eyes started hurting and she dropped all the pieces of the vehicle down. She held her temple. Charles was no violent by trying to enter her mind, but the unexpected energy it required of her to learn to use, caused more pain that she would have thought.
After seeing the radiation rising inside the force fields, Hank looked over at Erik and shouted, "Pull Charles back!"
"Wait-"
