Finding Our Real Rhythm

Chapter 2: Locker Room Talk

I take a seat behind my desk as I hear Adam and Kev come up the stairs.

"Hey look who is back!" Jay yells
"About time!" Antonio says.
Jay and Antonio slap Adam on his back, while Erin walks over to me with a file in her hand. She leans down and points to the file.
"So are you okay with this? Him being back?" She whispers.
"I think I am. I ran into him in the parking lot last night and we kinda kissed."
"Coffee. Now" she says.
I get up and follow her, I look back to see all the guys catching up around Adam's desk.
"What do you mean you kinda kissed?" She asks as she pours us coffee.
"Well he asked if I was okay with him coming back. I said of course. We both belong up here. We hugged and then we kissed, several times"
"And!?"
"And, that's it. We each went to our own homes. I didn't see him again until this morning in the parking lot"
"So do you want advice or just for me to listen?"
"Just listen for now. I don't want to think much about it. I just wanna learn how to work with him" 
She nods and we head back out to join the rest of the team. No one seemed to even notice that we were gone.
I catch Adam's gaze and tilt my head towards the locker room he nods and we  both walk towards the back

" Let me say first that I don't regret our kiss last night and that I'm really really glad that you're back. I just think we need a few nights where we find us again and find out who we are now. Having been separated for over a year now but there's one thing I am still very certain of and that is the fact that I love you. That will never change we just need to take things slow and find our rhythm again"

he nodded in confirmation

"I agree with you 100% we need to find our groove again. Not just together but I need to find my groove with the team again and settle back into the cop side of myself. Being someone else for three months is challenging to say the least... and I truly am sorry for running away from you... I just didn't know how to be here and not be with you but I am ready and willing to get back to being us ...... No more running"

I smile and nod, taking a step forward so that I'm in his personal space. Then we put our arms around each other and I place my head on his chest. It feels so good to be in his arms again. It feels like home. After a few minutes we separate slowly and then head back to our desks. I take a seat and start flipping through some files on my desk, man do I really need to catch up on some work.

"Hey was someone in my desk?" Adam basically shouts across the room. We all look up and shake our heads no, when I meet his gaze I can tell he is livid about something.
"No man, no one was in your desk. Why?" Kevin asks.
"Someone had to be" he replies sharply and storms off towards the garage. Kev looks at me and I just shrug my shoulders, I think this is something for Kevin to handle, not me. I turn my attention back to my files while Kevin follows Ruz.

"Ruz what's going on?" Kev asks as he takes a seat next to Adam.
"I'm telling you, someone was in my desk man" he runs his hands through his hair.
"Okay I believe you. I just don't understand why you're so upset. We borrow stuff from each other all the time."
"I don't care about that. It's that the picture of Kim and I, from when we were engaged. I used to have it on my desk. I never had the heart to get rid of it but I couldn't look at it anymore so I put it in my desk, face down. I had it face down so I didn't have to see how happy we were all the time. Well I just got in that drawer and the picture was face up."
"Okay so someone was in your drawer, turned the picture over and then forgot to put it back correctly. What's the big deal?"
"I think it was Kim. She denied being in that drawer for some reason. I just don't want her to think I'm some psycho for keeping that picture"
"Dude I'm pretty sure that is not even close to what she felt when she saw that. She did just have you follow her into the locker room and by the stupid grin you've had on your face all day. I think it's safe to say something happened."
"We kissed. Last night, I ran into her in the parking lot and I told her I wanted to come back to intelligence  and we just ended up kissing. Just now she called me into the locker room to tell me she wants to take things slow"
"Well that's good" Kev slaps on his back and Adam just chuckles, "yeah I know. Anyways lets get back upstairs and hope we catch a case. I'm so damn bored"
"I know you are" Kev just shakes his head and follows Adam back up the stairs.

I could see Adam and Kev making their way back up. I could see by the look on Adams face that he was in a better mood. Kevin nodded in my direction letting me know everything was all good. While the boys were gone a case popped  off. A body was found in the park in an area Kevin and I used to patrol when we worked the beat.

I listened in as Antonio started to stick photos up on the board

"So here's what we know so far the body was found in the park late last night with both hands and feet bound but, there was also a handful of 9 mm shell casings next to the body

I heard Adam pipe in  " so what we're saying is this was an overkill this psycho went the extra mile so whoever this was would keep his or her mouth shut".Then I heard Voight speak up  "So with the little information we have to go on what are we thinking? Crime of passion, drug deal gone bad , Snitch killing? We've got about 1 million possibilities so until we find the right one we run them all down. "
