Chapter 12: Interrogation

I walk out of Voight's Office. My adrenaline is pumping I feel like I'm going to throw up. I hear the words running in slow motion through my head,

"I want you to interrogate Ellis,Jay."

My head was spinning my heart was pounding there was so much riding on this interrogation we wanted to bring Ellie down for many reasons. The main one was he tried to kill Kim twice and this time it wasn't just about her attempted murder it was the attempted murder of the child she was carrying... Adams child.

I would never forgive myself if this interrogation went south and he walked just because I wasn't one step ahead, going after her for a third time.

I walked back towards the break room to calm down and collect my thoughts, I had to be at the top of my game if this had any chance of going our way.

I was pulled from my thoughts by a knock on the door frame, I look over and see Erin leaning against it. There she is my voice of reason my saving grace if anyone could get my head out of the clouds and into the game she could.

"Everything ok in here you looked a little shaky coming out of Voight's Office?"

"Nope I'm not ok, he wants me to interrogate Ellis and for the life of me I cannot get a grip. What if I push too far and he lawyers up Adam and Kim will never look at me again"

She walks over and takes my face in her hands

"We are all taking this one personal because he not only attacked one of our own once but twice. Emotions are running high and everybody feels like if we don't get him now he will slip through our fingers and be gone for good but we have to be smart we have to be one step ahead. Take a minute, get your head together and let's do this, let's make sure he never sees the light of day again."

I nod and she kisses me God I love that woman so much. She walked out and I spend the next couple minutes pumping myself up getting my mind right and then I head back out grab what I need and head towards the interrogation room where Ellis is waiting for me.

"I'm Detective Halstead, I'm going to be the one questioning you."

Ellis just nods in response with a smirk.

"Why did you take Officer Burgess hostage?"

"That bitch ruined my life."

"And taking her hostage was going to do what exactly..?"

"I want to ruin hers. She sent me to prison. She shot me. She deserves to pay."

"You do realize you just admitted to kidnapping an officer."

"That bitch is going to ruin my life a second time, I should have killed her."

There's a bang on the other side of the mirror. Without a doubt it's the team trying to restrain Ruzek. It's definitely a good idea that Jay is doing the interviewing. It's also probably a good thing that Burgess isn't listening, this guy is nuts.

"What about Matthew Scott? Did you kill him?"

"Hell no!"

"Then why was your car seen fleeing the scene at the same time the murder happened..?"

"I like to cruise around." He shrugs his shoulder and smirks.

"So it's just some crazy coincidence that your car was at the exact spot a murder occurred. Then how did you know to take Officer Burgess if you weren't expecting cops?"

"I umm I decided on the spot when I saw her enter the garage."

"But why were you hiding in the garage in the first place?"
