So Joey you gonna tell me who this lovely lady is or do I need to start shooting?" Reid yells as he shoves Kim inside.

"Chicago PD! Hands up!" Kev and I both yell at the same time.

"Move and I put a bullet in her head." Reid yells back.

"It'll be the last thing you do!" I say through gritted teeth.

Over my dead body will this man hurt Kim or our baby girl. I have my finger on the trigger and I'm just about to pull it when I see movement behind Kim.

I watch as Jay takes the butt of his gun and lines up with the back of Reid's head. Jay catches my eye and nods. He blinks twice and before the third blink I scream, "get down!"

Kim immediately drops to the floor and into my arms. While Jay wacks Reid from behind. He starts to fall but Jay catches him before he can land on Kim.

"You're under arrest for the possession of stolen guns, drug paraphernalia, drugs and the attempted murder of a police officer and her unborn child!" Erin informs as she cuffs him. I don't think I've ever seen her be so rough.

"Burgess! You good?" I feel a hand on my shoulder and see that it's my boss.

"Yeah I'm good. We're good." She says as she rubs her belly. I let out a breath and hug her.

"Thank god. Don't ever scare me like that again darlin"

"I'll try not to."

"Yeah girl, seriously that was too close." Kev says as he helps her up.

She just nods, I can tell that she is beating herself up over the whole situation.

"Burgess, we have all done it. Don't be so hard on yourself. We got him." Jay tells her.

"Thank you and thanks for the assist." She replies while nodding her head towards Reid. Jay just nods and goes back to helping Erin.

"Let's go home." She says through blurry eyes. I can tell she's trying not to cry. I look towards Srg who just nods.

I rush her to the car and we start driving. She's silent the whole ride. I just keep a hand on her thigh so she knows I'm here. I'm always going to be here.

The drive home was a blur, I felt numb. The only thing I could really feel was Adam's hand on my leg and our fingers intertwined together. My brain was going through thousands of different scenarios of how the whole take down could've gone much much worse. I had my hand resting on my belly. This little one was going to be here before we know it. I need to start putting the final touches on everything at home. Adam has been a huge help putting the crib together, folding clothes, getting the bottles washed and ready. He truly is the perfect partner and I couldn't ask for anyone better. I was pulled from my thoughts when I heard Adam's voice.

"What's going on in that pretty head of yours?"

"Just thinkin"

"About?"

"Today... Today scared me Adam and you know me. I'm not scared by much but when Reid stood me up from behind the car I thought that was it that I was done. That I would never see you again or be able to see our little girl grow up. Lord knows I love my job more than anything but I'm not willing to risk the safety of our little girl anymore. I think I want to start my desk duty a little bit early if that's ok with you?"

"Of course that's ok with me darlin. You know that I have your back always, no matter what"

He kisses the back of my hand and I feel this wave of calm come over me. Adam always has a way of making me feel safe and grounded no matter if we are at home or out in the field.
