The night was frigid. A gentle breeze was blowing in the ruins, where they sat on what probably used to be a spacious balcony. The stone railings must've crumbled centuries ago, taking some of the floor with them. Now, it resembled a small shelf above the ground which could barely fit two people. Their laughter was muffled by leaves rustling in the trees of an undoubtedly royal garden.

They found these ruins when they were out horse riding.

Some nights, when neither of them could fall asleep, with too many thoughts milling around their minds, they'd seek comfort in the other's chambers.

They always ended up sneaking out of the manor to go to these ruins.

Then, no matter how cold the night or how unbearable the thoughts, it always gave them a feeling of warmth and peace.

"Dio?" Jonathan's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Yes, JoJo?"

"Tell me about the stars."

Dio was slightly taken aback. But seeing the dreamy look on Jonathan's face, and the moonlight dancing in his eyes...

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

"As you wish," he started, and began pointing at different constellations. "This is Cerberus. The three large stars represent his three heads, and the smaller ones beneath are his body and tail-"

"It doesn't look like Cerberus at all!"

Jonathan's voice was full of almost childish disappointment. He sounded like a toddler arguing with their parents about not being able to eat candy for dinner. His smile spread a little wider as he glanced at the bluenette, only to see him pouting up at the sky.

"Constellations aren't supposed to look exactly like whatever it is that they're named after. They represent what the finder thought about when naming them," Dio explained, and continued to point at different constellations. "That one right there is Machina Electrica, it even looks like an electricity generator on a pedestal, see? Oh, and to the right there's Sceptrum et Manus Iustitiae. If you look below that, and a bit further to the right, you'll see Nubecula Major and Nubecula Minor. They are two large clusters of stars, and-"

"If you were to name a constellation, Dio, what would you call it?"

A pair of blue eyes was drilling into him intensely as he lowered his gaze from the heavens above them to look at Jonathan. That dreamy look of his changed, ever so slightly, and there was something else in his eyes that he couldn't quite put his finger on.

"That's a rather bizarre question to ask, JoJo. I don't know, I've never given it much thought," he said. Before he could ask Jonathan the same thing, the bluenette spoke up.

"I know I'd name a constellation after you, Dio."

The blonde felt as if a hundred butterflied fluttered awake in his stomach, and he was grateful for the darkness around them. At least it concealed the flush of red in his cheeks.

Before he managed to get a hold of himself, to think of a proper response, he felt himself lunge forward. A surprised gasp left Jonathan's lips as he captured them with his own, but after a short moment he relaxed, and returned the kiss. Their lips moved slowly, in harmony, as if they were meant to be.

Dio has never felt anything like this.

He felt like everything was falling into place, and that no matter what happens, they'll always be fine. They'll be together.

He brought his hand up to Jonathan's cheek, pulling him closer. Jonathan wrapped his arms around him, entwining one of his hands in Dio's soft, blond locks.

If it was up to either of them, they'd stay like that forever.

But, reluctantly, they pulled away.

"I love you," Jonathan whispered. "I have since the first time I laid my eyes on you."

Dio smiled, and for the first time since he was a small child, it was a genuine smile of pure joy.

"I love you too, my dear JoJo," he said, gently stroking the other's cheekbone with his thumb. "I always will."

The night was cold. The air was crisp and yet as he stood on a balcony in his large mansion, he felt like he was suffocating. He was watching the stars, carefully assigning each of them to a constellation he once knew. They were looking down on him with disgust and disapproval, as if they were ashamed of shedding light on a monster such as him.

When he closed his eyes, he could almost hear the rustling of trees muffling Jonathan's laughter, and he could almost feel the other's warmth as they sat on the remainders of a balcony, snuggled close together.

He could almost feel the butterflies fluttering in his stomach, the sparks flying between them, and the warm feeling of peace in his chest.

Almost.

As soon as he opened his eyes, however, all he felt was bitter rage and burning hatred.

Then, they would twist into agony as he whispered,

"I love you, my dear JoJo. I always will."
