"Hm?" Dio looked over his shoulder, disinterest coloured his amber eyes. The gentleman nudged the blond's shoulder yet again, with his nose. "Well, what is it, Jojo? Spit it out." The man scowled. He had been sitting on a couch in the library lounge, happily enjoying his alone time until this nosey, annoying little mutt came to bother him. No, Jojo was worse than a mutt. Even a groveling dog knew when it wasn't welcomed.
"I'm.. sorry to bother you, Dio. I can come back later-" Jonathan was cut off mid sentence by Dio's angry, antsy response,
"No, no. You've gone out of your way to get my attention, and now that you have it, I want to know what was just so important that you had to speak with me now, rather than during dinner."
Jonathan smiled nervously, and he relaxed himself on the couch next to Dio. Their knees were touching.
"Well, it's just... Hm. You've been so reserved and on your own lately. It's honestly a bit surprising that you haven't been out to harass me lately-"
"Excuse me, Jojo. Are you implying that I, Dio, am a bully out to make your everyday life a living hell?"
"No, no, no-!! That's not it at all, Dio!! It's just... Well, I've missed spending time with you. That's all."
Dio went silent for a long moment, staring back at Jonathan's innocent, if not slightly pink face. Finally the moment that he had been waiting for... just ignore Jojo for a few days. That's all it would take. He knew that Jonathan had been growing too fond of his company lately, so what was the best way to break that fragile little heart? Insert himself as Jojo's best, and only friend, and then give his attention sparingly. But to see Jonathan come crawling back to him so soon was absolutely delightful.
"Jojo..." Dio began, a dark tone lighting his voice. "That is a surprise. I've always thought that you hated me. Especially after the way I acted during our youth... are you saying that you've completely forgiven I, Dio?" The smirk on his face was all knowing. Now that he had a knife in Jonathan's gut, all he had to do was twist it.
"Huh?" Jonathan stammered, and he slowly shook his head. Hearing Dio so suddenly bring up such terrible memories from his childhood was something that he didn't expect, and he wasn't sure how to reply. Was this also some sort of harassment?! Well, Jonathan had grown wiser to Dio's twisted little games. "Ahah... is something like that the first thing that came to your mind...? While it's true that we've had our differences, I think that conflict can help bring people closer together. In fact, there's no one who I feel closer to than you, Dio. ...huh? Is that strange?"
If the look on Dio's face was any indication, it was something strange. Jojo felt... close to him? Even after all of the alienation, the gaslighting, the lies, the stealing, and the fighting, Jonathan really had the gall to come to him and say something idiotic like that?! Jonathan leaned in closer, his big round eyes glittering as he stared back at the blond. Dio pushed him back with a single hand.
"Gah... for someone like you to come to me and say something like that... of course it's strange, you moron." Dio groaned, and he sat back on the couch. Even now, he had absolutely no idea what went on in that buffoon's head. No matter how he tried to get under Jojo's skin, that idiot lamb would find a way to turn it around on him and make it into something 'good'. Jonathan's stupid smile was only and indication of that, and it didn't supply any information about what the hell was going on in Jojo's twisted little empty head.
"Ahah.. I'm sorry, Dio. But that flustered expression of my brother's is cute..." Jonathan trailed off a bit, before he continued, "but-- On the subject of spending more time together, you know that the carnival is coming to town this weekend, right? I wanted to ask you if you wanted to come with me, Dio."
Dio just stared back at that idiot, and his red cheeks only betrayed his mood even more to the gentleman. He slowly shook his head, a hand coming up to cover his face. He was feeling only a bit self conscious, but when it came to Jonathan, even 'a bit' went a long way. "... We aren't children anymore, Jojo." Was his reply.
"Oh, Dio...! Please? It will be fun! I promise you that there's things there that even young adults like us would find fun! I just want to spend more time with you. It's far too cruel of you to refuse me this time..."
"...Mh. Hehehe. Fine then, Jojo. Because you beg and plead to I, Dio, so nicely. I will humor your request for only an hour. After which, once I declare the carnival to have no interest to me, I am going to return home. Got it?"
"...Oh! Truly, Dio? Ah, that makes me so happy! I promise you that I'll make it the best hour of your life! I pinkie promise you!" And Jonathan held out his pinkie finger, a silly little grin on his face.
Dio rolled his eyes, but, only because it amused him, did he humor the gentleman, and locked their pinkies together.
"Then I, Dio, will hold you to that, Jojo. ... Do not disappoint me."
