"Hallie, come on..." I said, trying to put her socks and shoes on. "We're gonna be late, babe."

Hallie crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. She did not like the new daycare I was taking her to.

"I don't wanna go, mommy." She stared at me like my life was on the line.

I didn't usually have a hard time with Hallie. I'd always joked that she skipped the "terrible two's" phase, but it seems like it may have tailgated onto the threes.

"Hals, you have to go. I'm sorry, but mommy has to go to work and Auntie Shelly doesn't have time watch you today." I pleaded with her. Today was Michelle's pregnancy procedure, and I wanted to make sure I was there for her, the last thing I wanted to do was ask Michelle to watch my daughter who didn't like the new babysitter.

I was close to tears as Hallie shook her head, pulling her shoes back off after I'd just put them on for the third time. It seemed the universe was testing me today, seeing as I hadn't slept since last week when Spencer had been over, my best friend had a dying baby in her womb, and my three-year-old was throwing the ultimate tantrum. The previous daycare center that I would take Hallie to had closed indefinitely due to a death in the family. The family who owned the daycare had watched Hallie since she was six months old, so of course Hallie was most comfortable and familiar there. The new place seemed nice enough, and the owner, Angelina, was really friendly and also had a lot more kids in her care than the previous daycare. That had to mean she was good, right?

"Fine. I'm going to tell Penelope she can't come over tonight since you don't want to go to Angelina's."

Hallie's eyes widened and she sat up from her bed.

"No!"

I nodded my head, pulling out my phone. "Yep, I'm gonna call her right now and tell her she can't come."

I dialed her number, hoping it wasn't going to interfere with her case load or anything.

"Hello my darling, how are you and my small bundle of joy?" Penelope answered.
