The two walk into the TARDIS leaving Rose behind in silence. Jane leans against the railing looking at the Doctor worried as he looks at the screen. "You were scaring her," she says breaking the silence. "Point?" "Doctor. I know what you lost and I'm sorry but..." "But what? You don't know what it's like to loose everyone you care about! You said I sent you here to help, but all you do is drive me insane! What good are you?" "Stop." "No, I won't..." "Stop it! Listen, you don't know anything about me. I have lost a lot of people I loved. And it's not like I want to be here either because to be honest I would rather be with my Doctor. But I trusted you and I always will. So here I am. Stuck with you. Another version of the mad man in a blue box that is driving me up the wall," she says glaring at him. He looks at her in shock not sure what to say next. He could see all of her pain and frustration in her eyes that he had also felt before. Perhaps, they're more similar than he thought. "I-I'm sorry," he finally says. "It's fine. Just, forget about it." She sits in the captains chair with relief of letting all of her frustration out. She could feel the weight in her chest lighten from that little outburst not realizing it had been building. "Jane, I really am sorry," the Doctor says taking her hand. Jane looks into his blue eyes still getting use to the change. "You better be, Dumbo," she says with a smirk. ""Dumbo?" "As in the movie? With the whole ears thing." He looks at her confused. "Oh, never mind." A beeping noise starts coming from the console catching their attention. "Another one?" she asks. "Yep. Let's go!" he yells smiling like a child which in turn makes her smile. The two go into a restaurant and see Rose with someone else. A waiter puts down a bottle of champagne. Jane and the Doctor look at each other with a smile. He grabs it and she nods towards Rose. "Your champagne," the Doctor ways. "We didn't order it," the man says. "Where's the Doctor and Jane?" he asks Rose again. Jane clears her throat before saying, "Your champagne." Neither Rose nor the man look up from their argument. "I-it's not ours," Rose says. "Mickey what is it? What's wrong?" "Doesn't anyone want champagne?" the Doctor asks again. "We didn't order it," the man says looking up at us. "Ah! Gotcha!" The Doctor starts shaking the bottle. "Don't mind us," Jane says turning to Rose. "We're just toasting the happy couple. On the house!" The Doctor opens the bottle and the cork flies into the mans forehead. And he spits it out. "Anyway.." he says standing up and changing his hand. He breaks the table in half causing people to scream. The Doctor headlocks him and pops his head off. "Nice," Jane says. "Don't think that's going to stop me," it says. Rose pulls the fire alarm yelling, "Everyone out now! Get out! Get out!" They all run as the plastic body follows them. They get outside where the TARDIS is parked and the body keeps slamming on the door. Jane takes out her sonic and locks it. "Where did you get that from?" the Doctor asks. "Another time perhaps?" she asks referring to their situation at hand. Rose runs to the gate trying to get it open. "Open the gate! Use that tube thing. Come on." "Sonic screwdriver," Jane says. "Use it!" "Nah, Tell you what? Let's go in here," the Doctor says as the two walk into the TARDIS. "You two can't hide inside a wooden box!" Rose yells. "He's gonna get us! Doctor! Jane!" She runs in and runs back out then comes in one more time. "It's gonna follow us!" "The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that door. And believe me, they've tried. Now, shut up a minute." "You're being rude again," Jane points out. "You see, the arm was too simple, but the head is perfect. I can use into trace the signal back to the original source," he continues on. Jane walks over to comfort the shocked Rose. "Right. Where do you want to start?" he asks Rose. "Um. The inside is bigger than the outside." "Yes," Jane confirms. "It's alien." "Yep," the Doctor says. "Are you two alien?" "Nope," Jane says only half lying. "Yes," he says nodding. "Is that alright?" "Yeah." "It's called the TARDIS. T-A-R-D-I-S. That's Time and Relative Dimensions in Space." She starts to sob and Jane put's an arm around her. "That's ok. Culture shock. Happens to the best of us," he says making Jane roll her yees. "Did they kill him? Mickey? D-did they kill Mickey? Is he dead?" Rose asks. "Oh. I didn't think of that," the Doctor says. "He's my boyfriend. You pulled off his head. They coped him and you didn't even think? And now you two are going to let him melt?" "Melt?" the two ask. They turn and see the head melting. "No, no, no, no, no!" he yells "What are you two doing?" she asks. "Following the signal. It's fading!" he yells as the two try to fly the TARDIS. "No, no, no, no!" he keeps on yelling. "Almost there!" Jane says to him. "Here we go," he says as they land the ship. The two run out as Rose yells, "You two can't go out there. It's not safe." "I lost the signal. We got so close!" Rose comes out shocked. "We've moved. does it fly?" "Not really," Jane says. "Disappears there and reappears here," the Doctor tries to explain. "You wouldn't understand." "But we're somewhere else. What about the headless thing? It's still on the loose," Rose points out. "It melted with the head. Are you going to witter on all night?" "Can you stop being rude for a minute?" Jane asks him. "I'll have to tell his mother," Rose says. "Sorry," Jane says as the Doctor looks at them confused. "Mickey. I'll have to tell his mother he's dead. And you just went off and forgot about him again! You were right. You are alien," Rose says. "Look, if I did forget some kid, called Mickey..." "He's not a kid." "It's because I'm trying to save the life of every stupid ape blundering on this planet, all right?" "All right," Rose says. "Yes, it is!" "If you are an alien, why do you sound like you're from the north?" Rose asks making Jane laugh. "Lot's of planets have a north." "What's a police public call box?" "It's a telephone box from the 1950's. It's a disguise," Jane says. "Ok. And this, this living plastic, what's it got against us?" "Nothing. It loves you. You have a great planet. Lots of smoke and oil, toxins and dioxins in the air. Perfect. Just what the Nestene Consciousness needs. Its food stock was destroyed in the war. All its protein plants rotted, so Earth-dinner!" "Anyway of stopping it?" she asks. "Anti-plastic." "Anti-plastic?" "Anti-plastic. First I've got to find it. How can you hide something so big? In a city so small?" "Hold on, what?" Jane and Rose ask him. "The transmitter. The Consciousness controls the plastic. The transmitter boosts the signal." "What does it look like?" Jane asks. "Like a transmitter. Round and massive. Somewhere slap bang in the middle of London. A huge circular structure. Like a wheel. Close to where we're standing. Must be completely invisible," he says stopping in front of the London Eye. Rose and Jane look at each other thinking the same exact thing. "What?" he asks them looking directly at it. "What?" Jane rolls her eyes and Rose raises her eyebrows. "What is it? What?" he asks looking again. He looks at the girls then the London Eye one more time finally catching on. "Oh. Fantastic!" he yells taking both of the girls hands. "Think of it-plastic all over the world. Every artificial thing waiting to come alive. The shop window dummies, the phones, the wires. The cables..." "The breast implants," Rose says making Jane laugh. "Still, the Consciousness must be somewhere underneath," Jane says. "What about down there?" Rose asks looking over a ledge. Jane and the Doctor follow looking over and smile at each other. "Looks good to me," he says. He opens the hatch and they all climb down the latter and see the Nestene Consciousness. "The Nestene Consciousness. That's it inside the vat. A living plastic creature." "Well, that's one to add to the books," Jane says with a smile. "Well, tip in your anti-plastic and let's go," Rose says eager to leave. "I'm not here to kill it. I've got to give it a chance," he says. Jane couldn't help but smile as that was one of the things that made her fall in love with the Doctor. He always gave aliens, people, or anything really a second chance. Give or take a few select species he would show mercy. "I seek audience with the Nestene Consciousness under peaceful contract, according to Convention 15 of the Shadow Proclamation." As he walks closer Jane keeps a watchful eye on him. Even though he tries the peaceful way it doesn't always work out. The vat roars in reaction to him. "Thank you. If I might have permission to approach?" It roars back with a yes. When the three get closer Rose sees Mickey and runs to him. "Oh, God! Mickey it's me. It's ok. It's all right." "That thing down there-the liquid, Rose-it can talk," he says. "You're stinking! Doctor! Jane, they kept him alive!" she yells to them happy. "Yeah, that was always a possibility. That way, they maintain the copy.," the Doctor says. "You knew that and never said?" Rose asks. "Can we keep the domestics outside?" Thank you." He walks closer with Jane close behind. "Am I addressing the Consciousness? Thank you! If I may observe you have infiltrated this civilization by means of warp-shunt technology, so may I with the greatest respect suggest that you shunt off?" It roars in response making Jane walk closer to him for protection. "Oh, don't give us that. It's an invasion, plain and simple," Jane says. "Don't talk about constitutional rights," he adds. Getting frustrated with the situation the Doctor yells, "I am talking! This planet is just starting. These stupid people have only just learnt to walk. But these people, they're capable of so much more. I'm asking you on their behalf, please just go." Jane feels a shiver run down her back and her eyes start to slightly glow gold as Rose yells, "Doctor! Jane!" Two dummies come and as one gets the Doctor Jane kicks the one attacking her. A second one comes and hits her in the back making her fall over. Two more come and hold her. The one holding the Doctor takes the anti-plastic out of his coat pocket. "It was just insurance. It wasn't going to use it" The Consciousness yells. "I was not attacking you. I'm here to help. I'm not your enemy. I swear I'm not!" the Doctor pleads. "What do you mean? No!" The two look over and see the TARDIS being brought in. "No, no. Honestly, no! Yes, that's my ship." The Consciousness starts to talk about the Time War. "That's not true. I should know, I was there. I fought in the war. It wasn't my fault. I couldn't save your world I couldn't save any of them," he cries out. Jane looks over to him and sees the pain in his eyes. "What's it doing?" Rose asks. "The Nestene's identified the TARDIS as superior technology. It's terrified," Jane says. "It's going to the final phase. It's starting the invasion!" she yells. "Get out, Rose. just leg it out of here!" the Doctor yells to her. "It's the activation signal. It's transmitting!" With the Doctor not noticing Jane closes her eyes to concentrate. "Focus Jane. Just listen to me. You can do this," she hears her Doctor say to her. In that moment an image of the two of them together flashes in her mind. "You can do this, love. I trust you. I believe in you." With that she opens her eyes seeing the Doctor and Rose. A sudden rush of the power from the time vortex consumes her and she knocks the dummies over. She runs over to the Doctor and gets the one holding him off. Looking up she sees Rose swing on a chain and knock over the one holding the anti-plastic into the vat. "Now we're in trouble," the Doctor says catching Rose. All four of them get into the TARDIS and leave. Rose walks out and calls her mom while the Doctor turns to Jane. "You alright?" "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" "Where you waiting for a dramatic moment to get them off of you?" "You know how it is with adrenaline. Strength always kicks in, in the last second." "You sure you're ok?" "I'm fine." "Promise?" "I promise, I'm fine," she says with a smile. They follow Rose out of the TARDIS. Jane couldn't help but smile. He did care about her even though he doesn't always show it. This Doctor is just more stubborn and hard-headed then hers. With that she noticed that she's still falling for him. "Fat lot of good you were." Rose says. "Nestene Consciousness? Easy!" the Doctor says. "You'd be dead if it wasn't for Jane and me." "Yes, he would be. Thank you," Jane says making the Doctor frown. "Right then, we'll be off...unless...I don't know...you could come with us. This box goes anywhere in the universe free of charge," the Doctor says. "Don't he's alien. He's a thing!" Mickey yells holding onto Rose. "Well spotted," Jane says teasing. "He's not invited," the Doctor points out. "What do you think? We'd love for you to come," Jane says with a smile even though that means she would have to watch them fall in love. On the other hand it would be nice for her to have Rose onboard as a friend. "You could stay here, fill you life with work, and food and sleep, or you could go anywhere." "Is it always this dangerous?" "Yeah," he says. "Yeah. I can't. I've got to go and find my mom, and someone's got to look after this stupid lump, so..." "Ok." "See you around," Rose says. The two start to leave but stop and pop their heads out. "We forget something," Jane says. "By the way, did we mention it also travels in time?" the Doctor says. With that Rose runs into the TARDIS and we all fly off.
A/N So, what do we think? Jane seems to see that even though it's a different version of her Doctor she's still falling for him. And it also seems that he cares for her too.
