I looked out the window and saw white fluffy clouds that filled the sky, causing the sun to be barely noticeable. My mind wondered with every snowflake that falls and lays with the others as to what my parents would be like.
I was getting kind of tired, but I was also very excited to meet my new parents. I waited in the adoption center, growing more and more impatient as each second passed by.
"Charlie! Someones here to see you." I turned to the sound of the female voice, that echoed down the hallway. The second my name was said, I was stiff from head to toe and felt butterflies in my stomach.
I managed to get up and slowly began to take small strides towards the living room. When I entered the room, there was a fancy couple standing next to each other, smiling ear to ear.
"These sweet people are here for your adoption. I think you'll love them." The lady said, smiling ever so brightly. She seemed genuinely happy for me, but I was going to miss her. I grew up in the orphanage and she promised she'd come with me to meet my new parents.
"yeah." I whispered, barely audible. The coupled leaned in closer and I spoke a bit louder this time, "Hi, its nice to meet you. I can't wait to get to know you."
I was so nervous, but I had been waiting for this day for forever. I couldn't pass it up. Although, something just didn't feel right.
"hello there." The woman said cheerfully. "This is so exciting!" The woman said as she signed the papers.
She was wearing a very fancy white dress that held tight to her body, making her curves look extra noticeable. She held a purse that matched her dress perfectly, and pearly white teeth. Her hair was blond with curls that fell over her shoulder. She was quite perfect infact.
The woman's husband had not stopped looking at me. He looked strong and didn't have any mistakes that I noticed. his hair was perfect and he wore a black suit that was completely spotless. He also shared the same pearly white smile.
I was shy and this couple seemed a little too perfect for me, but nothing was said. Again I couldn't mess this up, but something inside me told me I would.
When all the papers were signed, I left with my new parents. I had never been adopted before, so I was so very nervous. I followed them a few feet behind as we headed to their car. my eyes widened as we walked toward a beautiful car that was so shiny, it didn't even need the sun.
I admired the car before entering and smelling the amazing fragrance of the car's air freshener. I dug my hands between my thighs, protecting them from the cold weather. It didn't take long for the car to warm up though. I was only in a white sweater with blue jeans that didn't protect me from the cold.
I looked outside and watched the snow as we drove past many buildings. "How you doing back there, buddy?" My dad said, taking short glances in the rear view mirror. "I can't wait for you to see your new home, I am sure you will love it! We are so happy to have you in the family!" He smiled and took one last glance at me, and turned back to the road. He breathe in, holding it, and then let it out. "We are so nervous, we just want you to be happy." He took his wife's hand and smiled, "We saw you and had admired you since you were 10, but we just didn't know how you would like it in our previous home."
I smiled at him and then redirected my attention back outside the window. I thought about a huge mansion with a pool and so many doors. I began to get excited and left it like that. I wanted to be very excited, I didn't want to think badly about them or their house. I was lucky to even be adopted at my age, most kids weren't.
"By the way, my name is Kate, and this is Jeff. Although, you can call us mom and dad. Our last name is Miro, meaning, its also yours." My new mom, who was smiling still, shifted her seat and looked at me. "Charlie is such a cute name!" She turned back and seemed a little nervous when we arrived, "Oh, were here!"
We pulled into drive way to a house that clearly had two floors, but still looked like a mansion. There was two porches that sat on both sides of the drive way, it had huge garage doors that opened on their own.
My eyes opened wide as I took the whole house in. "This is your house?" I questioned, as I got out of the car. The garage had four bikes and a lawn mower, there was some tools in there but that was basically it.
I followed my new parents into the house, but I didn't make it far before I started gasping at everything I saw. Then I heard a piano and I turned to my parents, "Go explore." I smiled and looked around the living room for a while though, admiring the paintings and furniture before moving on.
Then, I began to walk to the noise and heard someone singing, a male voice. I turned the corner and saw a grand piano with a man sitting down, his hands majestically running across the piano and beautiful music that flowed perfectly from it.
I had started to walk towards him until I tripped on a small desk that held a glass of water, breaking the cup and falling onto the ground with it.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" I said, sitting up quickly and looked at the man who was just as startled as me, he got up and walked towards me, holding out his hand. He had such strong hands, but the thing I noticed most was his eyes. They were a beautiful blue color, but had a gaze that almost paralyzed me.
"I'm Nick, you must be that orphan kid. It's very nice to have you in the family." He leaned down and took my hand, pulling me up. "So, you want me to help you find your way around?" He smiled softly.
"oh, that would be nice." I felt like he was stabbing me with his gaze causing me to look away.
I didn't find him attractive, more as intimidating. It was hard to remember he was my brother as he guided me through the house with his hand on my shoulder.
I admired his features, he had short hair that looked like his dad's. He wore a white suit with matching white pants, making him look like a professional pianist. I felt like garbage walking next to him.
He showed me my room and left. My room had it's own private bathroom and I took my time to look around it. There was a huge tub that you could use to shower as well. The room was very fancy and had a red blanket with red curtains on the window.
"I think I'm going to like it here." I whispered to myself as I looked out the window.
