Dreams and Reality

I heard sirens and ran down an endless hall. I didn't understand why I was running, until I heard an engine and turned my vision to the side. I was quickly confronted with a car speeding towards me, the bright lights blinding.

Before I knew it I woke up in an cold sweat, shivering and crying. I sat up and looked around as if I hadn't remembered where I was.

Soon after reality hit and I laid back down on my bed, covering up, tears still streaming my cheeks.

I was so scared and I didn't understand the dream or why I had it. Nightmares are quite common for me though, sad I know but I've gotten use to it by now.

I wasn't going to let that stop me, not today. It was my first day at my new school and knew, obviously I was super excited.

Nontheless, the memory of the dream still stuck with me throughout the day. I could hardly focus at all, as I completed my morning tasks and went down for breakfast.

"Oh, hey charlie, how'd you sleep?" I noticed my mom sitting with on leg over the other at the dining table, glancing up at me with a mug in her hands. "Are you excited for your first day of high school?"

"I am." I said, avoiding the first question, just then Nick walked out into the kitchen, ignoring me without a passing glance.

He walked to the fridge and pulled it open, chugging the last of some orange juice from the jug.

He seemed tired and irritated about somthing but I kept to my self. I was honestly still too shy to talk to him.

"Nick, would you mind taking Charlie to school, me and your mother have some errands to run." I only then noticed my dad sitting across from my mom, and that they were both dressed quite nice. Meanwhile I wore grey sweat pants and a black t-shirt, pretty pathetic I know.

When Nick finished the orange juice, he wiped his mouth with his sleeve and answered, "yeah, sure." His voice was actually quite deep, morning voice I guess. "Be ready to go in 5 minutes." He said plainly to me as he walked off to his room.

For someone who wanted to leave so soon, he surely didn't look ready to go. He was still wearing a red silk button down pajama shirt and loose red pajama pants to match it. I only noticed his messy hair when he ran his fingers through it just before entering his room.

"Guess I should eat breakfast." I mumbled as I watched my mom and dad gather their stuff before leaving the house.

I got some yogurt from the fridge and ate slowly with a spoon as I watched my parents enter the car and leave the parking lot through the kitchen window.

It was now just me and my brother in the house and I felt comfortably at my new home. So far things seemed to be going pretty good.

My mind wondered a bit and I lost focus of reality, only being brought back when my brothers loud voice echoed through the house as he entered the living room. "Ready to go?"

I snapped back to attention and saw my broher completely dressed in an almost fancy, casual, pair of clothes that matched almost too perfectly and his hair done with one single pinch of hair on his forehead, the rest slicked back. Who was this man?

"Oh, yes- yes I am." I stuttered a bit as I put my spoon, which I had been nawing on, in the sink and my container in the trash. "Do you drive?" I said, throwing my backpack over my right, then left, shoulders.

"Of course I do, what 17 year old doesn't?" He asked sarcastically, "Anyways, I'm not here to play babysitter, come on."

He had a bitter face expression that made me feel uncomfortable. One that sent chills down my spine. But in a way, he seemed really caring and even held the door for me as we made our way to his black pick up truck.

I had sort of a hard time getting in and blushed with embarrassment. Lets just get one thing clear, this was a big, strong truck, not those small cheap ones, so my 5'1 weak self couldn't pull myself in.

"Need some help there buddy?" He let out an satisfied chuckle that made me want to prove that i could do it, so I tried, and tried, and tried again."Don't hurt yourself." He shook his head slowly.

I suddenly managed to place my footing just right and hoped in, panting lightly as I shut the door. "Finally. What's the point of such a big car? I could put 1 whole car in just the trunk itself."

"Don't make fun of my baby just because your short." He snarled playfully as he began to pull off and drive down the road.

I couldn't hide my smile, I've always wanted this brotherly bond. "It's not my fault your 'baby' is huge." I then giggled as he imitated me in a mocking voice, smiling as he drove.

I enjoyed my brother's company, but most of all, I enjoyed having a brother. I only ever wanted a family, and now I had one. This was perfect.

I leaned on the door with my arm folded under my head for support, closing my eyes as I enjoyed the light bumps of the road. This was truly amazing and nothing could take it away.

That was until I had a flash back of my nightmare and began to feel my anxiety build up, but I trusted Nick. So I let my mind wonder off, not thinking of anything, instead enjoying the views.

I was too busy in my thoughts to grasp where we were, but the feeling of drowsiness kept sweeping over me till I was engulfed in it and fell asleep to the sound of the engine and the slight bumps that felt like rocking.

I couldn't lie if I wanted to, this was truly a dream come true.

...round of applause, I was able to finish one chapter in one night. Woohoo!
