Shisui was exhausted. The time difference he had to live in for two weeks was exhausting and the jetlag that would plague him for a couple days was already exhausting.

He stepped out of the terminal and waited for someone he recognized from the plane to step out so he could follow them to baggage claim because he did not have the memory or brain power to trust signs pointing the way. It was only mid day but at the moment time did not matter to him because every second for him was sleepy time.

Shisui was the only one to return so early so he was alone at the airport. Every sense was foggy, the voices around him merely muffled to him as he let out a long yawn behind his hand. Shisui wasn't sure how he accomplished a month's work in half the time, but he did, and in consequence his body was near ready to collapse on any chair available and sleep his soul away. Actually, with how long it was taking to retrieve his luggage at the baggage carousel, Shisui believed he could just sleep standing up... Then he stepped outside and he let out a groan because it was rainy and muggy and gross and he just wanted to flop onto the available bench next to him instead of waiting for an available cab.

"Shisui!"

He sighed because now he swore to have heard voices, and not just anyone's voice. Her voice. And he suddenly snapped awake when it was her eyes he was staring into now.

"Hello, loopy one," she greeted with a grin, taking the luggage from his hand before replacing it with her hand in his. She let out a laugh because Shisui was just standing there staring at her.

"Oh, hey, [Name]."

She laughed again and leaned in to kiss his cheek. "Yes, it's me. Did you forget I was going to pick you up?"

Shisui let out a tired breath and ran his free hand down his face in an attempt to wake himself a bit more. "I did, yes, I'm sorry. Thank you for coming. Oh fuck I'm tired..."

"You can sleep on the way back home and, if you're up for it, we can have some lunch."

"That'd be wonderful," he mumbled as they both finally started to walk away from the airport and towards the car. And she felt such guilt, seeing him this worn down after overworking himself while she was having fun playing hooky. The whole drive back to town was quiet because Shisui was practically dead asleep the whole time but the moment [Name] parked in front of his apartment, he jumped awake and looked around him.

"This is not a food place."

The look of surprise made her giggle because he was suddenly alert and more aware of his surroundings compared to his zombie self at the airport. At least she doesn't have to worry that he'd literally collapse out of nowhere.

"I figured you prefer to sleep some more..."

"No, no - I'm alright now, really!" Shisui insisted, even if his weary eyes said otherwise. She narrowed her eyes at him playfully to make sure he was certain of going to some rowdy restaurant. "Honestly, I'm alright. Come on, I haven't seen you in two weeks."

"I don't want you slamming your face into your food, Shisui." That pulled a laugh out of him and she smiled to hear that sound again, like everything was okay after all. He showed this further by taking her hand and kissed her knuckles.

"I have tomorrow off so I'll sleep all I want then," he said, nodding to insist more. "For now, let's go eat. I haven't had much but some stale sandwich that was probably days from expiration."
