Things were going a little better.
Since that evening, Izuku has been a little more... open. Instead of flinching at every move the blond made towards him, it was only when he touched his skin. He also no longer had to leave the plate on the floor of the hallway anymore, the door would open and slim fingers would be there to take it from his hands. The biggest change was that every time he'd give the empty plate back, he'd mumble a soft 'thank you' to him. It had taken a bit for him to change from a whisper to a mumble. 'Slowly, it's progress' Katsuki would say to himself. He couldn't help himself from standing in front of the other's room just hesitating to knock, to ask about what had happened that night. The way he had panicked so quickly, it was the second time that happened and it just made him even more curious. Though, every time he would end up in his couch, at his dining table or in the kitchen, doing anything to get his mind off the mysterious greenette.
Little did he know that on the other side of the door that kept them apart, that exact male's gears were turning too. He was so confused, trying to find a reason for Katsuki to have helped him. He was always comparing him to them but he found no similarities. Well nearly none. There was the whole trick thing. But was it? Was it really a trick or was he just being nice because he's a good person? Or was that what he wanted him to think? This was a vicious circle that he hadn't find his way out of yet. It was driving him mad. There was one thing that was... bothering him if you could say that. The night he had finally spoken, he had received a smile. A smile that made the blond look like he had the sun behind him while they stood in a field of sunflowers. It was an odd feeling and it warmed him up each time he thought of it. Lately, he hadn't had as many nightmares as he usually did. He was always saved by the sight of the spiky haired male smiling at him. It was the light in the darkness. It intrigued him deeply but that little voice came back at each time to remind him ''not to fall for it''.
That day was a usual one. Katsuki in the living room, working and Izuku in his room, thinking. Bakugou had suggested a few times to give the greenie some books or some paper and pencils to keep him busy but the idea was consistently turned down, so he decided to give up. Katsuki had decided to put some music so he wouldn't feel as lonely while working. Music was a way for him to go to his own world, somewhere he decided what happened. He had done the drums when he was younger and had even joined the school band with Denki who played, and still does actually, the electric guitar. He enjoyed it but his mother had high expectations for him so she made him quit and focus on his studies. His playlist was a bit of a mess, some hard rock then some classical pieces, it wasn't very consistent. As the song, 'Heathens' by twenty-one-pilots ended, a new one played, this melody being much softer and more loving.
~The other night dear, as I lay sleeping. I dreamed I held you in my arms. But when I awoke dear, I was mistaken. So I hung my head and I cried~
''Oh I like this one!'' Katsuki exclaimed, leaning over to the speaker, pressing the volume button and putting it louder. He softly hummed to the song,
~You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away. I'll always love you and make you happy, if you will only say the same. But if you leave me and love another, you'll regret it all some day~
Across the hall, Izuku jumped to his feet so quickly he could feel the blood rush to his head, causing him to feel a bit dizzy. But he didn't care, he knew this song. So well. He knew it so well. His shaking hands gripped the doorknob and pulled it, welcoming the sound of tune in his room and to his ears. His heart was beating so fast, all these memories coming back to him:
''You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away'' a warm hand brushed the few strands of hair that lay on his sleeping face. ''I love you, baby'', a kind voice spoke as the person lay a gentle kiss on his forehead before leaving the room.
His footsteps were slow, and labored. This song meant so much to him. He hadn't heard it in so long, he missed it. He missed her. He wanted her to hold him in her tender arms. She would make all of this so much better, she would know what to do. But she's gone. Shaking off the horrible shivers that went down his spine thinking of her and continued making his way to where the music was coming from.
Soon enough he arrived at the entrance of the dining room, looking a bit dazed. At first Bakugou hadn't noticed him because he was listening to the song but as soon as he did, he paused it and spoke worriedly, ''Hey Izuku, are you ok? Do you need some-'' ''D-don't.. please don't stop the song..'' the greenie interrupted. Katsuki was a little confused but obliged, pressing play.
~In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me. When I awake my poor heart pains~
Izuku didn't move from his spot, he just hummed to the song. Bakugou watched as a small, content smile crawled upon his face, one that showed he's remembering precious memories. 'He's got a nice voice' he thought to himself, 'I wonder why this song is so important. He literally never comes out of his room but as soon as this song plays he's out? It's odd' . Katsuki decided not to say anything, just watch as Izuku stumbled over to the couch, bringing his knees to his face and swaying from side to side.
~So when you come back and make me happy. I'll forgive you dear, I'll take all the blame~
Oh the simple times... when the only thing he worried about was if his dad would get home in time to watch his favourite show with him. He wanted to go back to that. Erase everything that's happened to him. He wanted his mom to be by his side in everything he did like before. He wanted the memories he had of his childhood to stay, not being replaced by those horrid moments afterwards. But he'd never get that again. Never. His life will never be like it was before because that's just not how life is. It's different now.
~You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away~
The song ended and tears were slowly streaming down Izuku's face. He turned to look at Katsuki who hadn't taken his eyes off him ever since he arrived in the dining room, trying to read what was going through his mind. The greenette looked deep into Bakugou's fiery gaze, searching for any possible evil. He found none. None. It's the first time in oh so long that he hasn't seen any bad intention's in someone's eyes. He doesn't remember the last time he did this but he smiled. He genuinely smiled at Katsuki. Maybe different wasn't so bad..
Maybe, just maybe, different could be good for him...
