Remus had grabbed onto Sirius's hand in fear and squeezed, their freezing fingers locked together. Despite the weather, cold sweat was dripping down Suirius's back; he was terrified of losing people he loved. Ever since it had happened when he was younger, it'd been his biggest fear. Losing his favorite uncle scarred him, he'd never forget...

He subconsciously squeezed Remus's hand, almost as if making sure he was still there. Remus squeezed back and kissed Suirius's forehead lightly. Suirius's ebony eyes darted over to where Lily stood, holding her shaking, freezing hand over her mouth. Her red hair was tied up loosely in a bun, wisps of hair falling in front of her teary emerald eyes.

His eyes then flicked over to James, who just stood in shock and disbelief. He had his hands down by his sides, motionless. He mouth was slightly gaping as he stared at the blood in the snow.

"M-maybe she went back inside and this was j-just someone hunting a deer," James suggested, not wanting to believe Y/N could have been gone and that it could have been his fault.

"I heard screaming, James..." Remus informed with guilt in his voice. "I don't think deer can scream like that..."

Sirius had stupid joke in his mind about James and screaming, but knew that this was definitely not the right time for it. He scratched at old marks on his wrist as punishment; it was an old habit that he hadn't been able to drop.

"W-well, it was probably just the person cheering," James argued.

"You're in denial, James." Lily's words were so quiet that James had almost missed them.

"I'm not!" James shouted at her, anger starting to rise in his lungs. "She's back at the house and she's fine, probably playing with Lara and Loui— "

"Y/NNNN!" came a shout from the top of the snowy hill. " Y/NNNN, WHERE ARE YOU!?!?"

That was Louis's voice. The shout echoed through the trees. No, James said to himself, no, she's fine, they're playing hide and seek.

"Louis," it was Remus who had shouted it, "are you playing hide and seek?"

"No, where's Y/N gone?"

"Uhh..." Remus tried to think of a lie so that the children wouldn't get too worried. "We're actually playing hide and seek, that's why I asked."

"Why are you playing it out here in the dark in the forest?" Louis asked suspiciously, squinting his eyes at the teens. The twins looked at each other at the same time, having a conversation through their eyes, it seemed.

"Errrm..." Sirius started. "James suggested it."

James turned and shot a glare at Sirius, in a way of saying 'What the fuck?', but Sirius just shrugged and looked at the snow. Lily sighed and walked up the snowy hill to the two young children, "C'mon you two, you should go on inside now, we're just doing uhh- teenager things," she said to them awkwardly.

"I'm almost a teenager!" Lara argued, putting her hands on her hips sassily. Louis glanced over at her and copied her moves, "Yeah, we're almost teenagers."

James sighed, ushering them both back inside the house. Of course, a few seconds later he came back outside, the twins following happily behind. They'd told him that they would tell mum and dad, a terrifying thing that no one could say no to.

And so, they set off into the woods; a bad idea. Remus and Sirius were holding hands tightly, keeping each other warm in the snow. Lily was shivering, hugging herself for warmth. James was trudging through the snow with the twins following behind him, holding onto the back of his shirt as not to get left behind.

"Why are you playing hide and seek where only one person hides?" Louis asked with confusion in his voice.

Lara nodded and said, "Yeah, that's kinda weird, shouldn't you guys be hiding too?"

"This is a special hide and seek game, uhhh- it's called manhunt," Sirius improvised. Remus gave him a weird look, but Sirius just shrugged. "It's where only one person hides and we all hunt them down."

I'M SORRY I HAD TO

Lara and Louis looked at each other skeptically. "Well how come we've never heard of it then?"

"Because its a teenage game, not for little kids like you," James sneered. He was over this, he wished that they'd just stayed at the house. He wished that they would stop asking questions. He wished Y/N had never gone outside.

"I'm not a little kid!" Lara whined, tugging on the back of James's shirt. James half sighed, half groaned to himself, anger building up in his chest.

"Can't you go annoy someone else?" he growled at his little sister, glaring at her. Lara and Louis looked at each other, and as if on cue, they both started crying loudly, screaming to anyone who would listen that James was an asshole. Lily had to then go over and get them to quiet down, bribing them with candy that she had in her pocket for some reason (let's be honest though, Y/N probably stole her jacket and put it there).

For the next two minutes, it was silent, just the six of them, trudging through the snow. That's when Remus suddenly stopped, hearing something, far off, deeper in the woods. Everyone else soon stood still too, turning to look at him, knowing that he'd heard something they hadn't.

"I think that could've been a scream," he said quietly, a lump rising in his throat.

"Where'd it come from, Moony?" Sirius asked softly, trying to calm him, but also feeling a horrible sense of dread. Remus looked off to their left, deeper into the forest, where the moon's light didn't shine.

"We'd have to use our wands if we were planning on seeing," Remus said, peering into the dense trees. The others took their wands out of their pockets (they'd brought them with them just in case), silently lighting them. Lara and Louis, who'd been silent for too long for their own liking, looked at the lights, mesmerized.

James was the first to step over to the denser part of the woods, almost tripping on a large log. He lit up the way, no path being apparent. The others followed behind him, lighting up the forest creatures; spiders, ants, moths, etc.

And so, off they went, slowly becoming more scared by the minute. Remus was soon pushed to the front of the pack, as he was the one who heard the scream, and knew the general direction. Soon enough, there was another scream, close enough this time for all of them to hear it.

The teens all turned to look at each other, serious looks on their faces. Lara and Louis glanced at each other, knowing this wasn't hide and seek.
