"The Hunter Exam is soon to begin," He stated. "With all 406 applicants present, we will now begin the exam."
The man in the suit then stretched his limbs and begin to stride down the long hallway ahead of him.
Puzzled, the other applicants including yourself followed at a slow pace after him.
'Just a walk? This doesn't seem to bad.' You thought.
In just a few minutes he began to speed up. You could see the front of the group trotting faster than they had before.
The man began to speak again, "How rude of me I neglected to introduce myself" he started, "I am Satotz, your examiner for the first phase of the exam. It's my responsibility to lead you all to the second phase"
Number 294 butted in, "Second? What ever happened to the first?"
"The first phase is already underway." He replied. People murmured amongst themselves at his comment. "The first phase is quite simple, all you have to do is follow me to the second phase. So, try to keep up."
294 complained again, but you didn't listen. You weren't interested in his comments to Satotz.
'Hmm we only have to follow him...I assume his pace will increase gradually as we move on since he did start to walk faster a few minutes ago.' You thought. 'I've trained like this before so my endurance is fine, this shouldn't be hard at all for me.'
"Huh, this could actually be fun!" You'd said aloud to yourself, stretching your arms up in a relaxing manner.
Just then a voice was heard behind you. "What could be fun~?" they asked.
You looked behind you to see a red haired man with face tattoos gazing at you.
'Number 44' you thought. "Oh, just talking to myself" you said, staring back at him.
"How cute" he responded, smiling.
-
A few minutes had passed and 44 continued to follow close behind you. "If you're planning on sticking around you might as well introduce yourself" you said.
"Oh sure, suppose it couldn't hurt~I'm Hisoka" he said, matching his pace with yours. "Who might you be?"
"I'm (y/n)" you replied, some what forcing a smile.
"What a unique name, how original" he said sarcastically.
You huffed at his comment and he chuckled.
"I've been eying you since you arrived here you know," he admitted.
'What?! Eying me? This guy a creep or something?' you thought. You looked at him confused and he smirked.
"Ah (y/n) I love that confused look you have" he laughed. "Though, what I meant was your prowess. You certainly look like you could hold your own in a fight, and those blades of yours have peaked my interest."
You look away from him and suddenly smile. "Is that so? Does this mean you understand not to mess with me?" you say, while raising your hand to manipulate three blades to lift from your scabbard and point towards him.
You didn't want to have to threaten him, but you've always been taught not to trust people so easily.
He smirked. "I'll leave you be, for now that is"
"Fine" you said. You lowered the blades to their proper places and the two of you continued to run down the path.
-
It had been what felt like hours. You have no idea when you started this marathon, much less when it would be over.
Hisoka continued to trail you, fiddling with a card in his hand.
You'd occasionally look in his direction and he'd simply smile and stare back at you.
Up ahead you could see the green haired boy from earlier, this time he was speaking with a kid with cat eyes.
'So cute' you thought. 'They can't be older than 12, how adorable'
Next to them was the blond boy and the man with glasses. He was running without a shirt, though he still had his tie on.
You laughed to yourself. 'There's some strange participants here.'
Just as that thought aroused you heard the familiar creaking of another applicant.
You turned to see number 301, Gittarackur, gaining on you.
He trotted up next to you and looked over in your direction. "Hello Gittarackur" you greeted him.
"Hello (y/n)" he greeted you back while slowing his pace to match yours.
"What do you think of the exam so far?" you casually asked.
"Easy" he replied.
"I agree, this is a walk in the park" you said.
He hummed in agreement. Soon Hisoka moving in closer and joined you two. "I see you two have already met." he inquired.
"Yes, we did at the start of the exam, Hisoka" Gittarackur informed him.
"You two know each other?" you asked. "We're old friends~" Hisoka replied with a smile.
"Oh, that's nice" you said. 'Must be nice to have a friend to tag along with'
-
The three of you continued to run along with each other. You trotted in the middle of the two men who would occasionally glance in your direction.
They were strange, though you'd met weirder people before. Plus, it was good to have people to stick with.
Eventually the three of you reached a set of stairs which you began to run up, greatly increasing your speed.
The light shined bright in your eyes as you ran up the last step and finally made it outside. "I win!" you jokingly exclaimed.
"This was a race?" Hisoka asked. "Of course not, I'm just trying to lighten the mood after all of the annoying running" you said, frowning at him.
Gittarackur looked puzzled, and Hisoka wasn't playing along with the joke either.
"Lighten up you two, you're acting like old men" you said smirking.
Hisoka chuckled and even Gittarackur showed a small smile. You smiled. 'I think I'll stick with these two for a while.' you thought to yourself.
