Falling

"If I'm still standing it's not over!" My vision cleared and I prepared to throw my spear. A gauntlet wrapped round my wrist and pulled me back. "Just a trick. I always knew Atalanta would design the future." Lucan said. I broke free seeing that Lucan had some kind of armor and backed away from them both edging towards the underground level Atalanta's new form had broken out of. I peered down to see it was full of robots that had clearly been further upgraded in Atalanta's style. "And the target list is all the mythicals myself and Atalanta could track." Lucan announced. Thousands of red eyes switched on at once.

I couldn't stop this but I could still make Lucan pay for it all. I swung the spear which would have cut his's head off if Atalanta hadn't intercepted it. I sent another swarm construct in her direction and attacked Lucan again already knowing the attack would miss. An arrow appeared in Lucan's visor dropping him instantly.

Atalanta looked behind me. "Humanity gave birth to me to kill you, you know." "They've been trying that for centuries." The white horseman shifted and the almost wraith like form warped into the guise of a warrior king: Conquest. " So now you're gonna fight for them?" Atalanta asked in disbelief.  "I'll fight for me and this looks like the most fun since Crimea." Right... The place where Conquest had literally given rise to Pestilence becoming both entities. The two that were one. He was grinning now as if remembering that day and how this battle would lead to a great victory. He jumped down facing the army moving faster than perhaps even Atalanta could fully read as the sound of metal ripping and glass breaking filled the air.

I ducked Atalanta's swipe. She was my fate to deal with and I wouldn't lose, not now. The feeling I had first becoming the revenant was back and I charged forward. The spear finally made contact cutting through one of Atalanta's giant claws. The remainder folded back up into her arm. I barely had time to get the shield back up before her remaining claw crashed down on it. The red light across Atalanta seemed to be pulsing... Like a heartbeat? How could that be possible? She couldn't be alive in that sense. The red light shifted restoring her claw. She had constructs just like me now.

The next attack: a swarm of red razor blades cut through the shield. I battered one away with my spear deflecting it into the computer screen. I threw two blasts of cyan magical energy at Atalanta needing to end this quickly now. The AI should never have had access to that kind of power but I didn't have time to consider how. I didn't even see the red spear coming. Conquest grabbed and shattered it 10 centimeters from my back.

"Oh I didn't think that would quite work out like that." Atalanta giggled. She seemed pretty pleased for someone who'd lost her entire army. The razor blades spun back round but Conquest easily knocked them out of the sky. Then what?

Atalanta opened her mouth and all the barely contained energy shot out as a laser and then my patron was gone. I screamed right in Atalanta's face then. He could have won but he was defending me. I'd dragged him down with me. I couldn't do anything and I was the only one who would even care.

There were shadows writhing around me now and... some kind of yellow light? Atalanta's claw construct broke against my hand melting as it hit the light. Then I knew the whole truth. The revenants weren't just champions they were heirs. The burning and corrupting light was pouring out of my hands and eyes. I couldn't stop it and wasn't sure I wanted to. "Atalanta... Run." The light burst free completely and then London was gone.
