She was sick of seeing trees.

They had been driving for hours and despite the vehicle being more than spacious, she couldn't help feeling a bit claustrophobic after being in it for so long. However, she dreaded the moment they would get to their destination even more.

"Amber, come on, you are going to Alfea. It's exciting!" Her sister's voice snapped her attention back to the video call on her phone. She tried to smile in encouragement, but it did little to soothe the girl's nerves.

"Or completely embarrassing compared to our family history." Amber rolled her eyes. Other people would have been excited, maybe feeling butterflies in their stomachs after waiting their whole life for this moment. But Amber wasn't other people. "What if this is a mistake? What if they can't help me?"

"Everything is going to be fine. Don't forget who you are, Amber. The second you'll walk through those gates, you'll make tons of friends, maybe even meet some cute boys," Her sister added in a lilting voice.

"You know that's not why I'm going there!"

"Alright, calm down, I was just joking." Her sister was quick to say, raising her hands in the air in a mocking surrender, but then softly said, "Don't get upset over it."

Amber scoffed, "Couldn't even if I tried, remember?" She raised her left wrist to reveal the golden bangle with the dark green stone embedded in it. Something shifted in her sister's honey-colored eyes, but Amber couldn't bear to see it. She'd seen enough of it already.

"You know it's not a permanent solution." It almost sounded like she was being scolded. Of course Amber knew. Her sister made sure to tell her that practically every day. The sunlight reflecting from the golden bracelet felt like it taunted her, and she quickly lowered her hand back to her lap.

"I'm almost there, I'll talk to you later," And without waiting for a reply, the blonde hung up the call.

Maybe it was something in the air, or the ground, but Amber could really tell they were getting close. Peeking over to the front driver seat, the GSP had read they were only a few minutes from the prestigious boarding school.

"Can you drop me off just a little bit before we get there?" She called over to the driver, seeing him nod politely in return through the rear-view mirror.

The road was getting wider and smoother, and the tangled woods were getting thinner. Whilst there were other magical colleges in the Otherworld, Alfea was known as the best school for Fairies and Specialists. It almost felt like her last hope, and in some way it was.

Just as agreed, the driver stopped before they got to the school grounds, opening up her door and picking up her suitcase from the trunk. He went to carry it, but Amber was quick to stop him, waving him off.

"I got this from here, thank you,"

She made the first step after only the black SUV faded away back into the woods. With a deep breath, she took another step, and then another until she was in front of the black steel gates.
