It was a Thursday evening after being at the library all day.

The two hadn't really had the chance to talk about yesterday but something drifted in the air between them. Unspoken words of reassurance and love. Owen had noticed Richy looking back at him more and he felt his cheeks grow red and warm.

He felt as if he was dreaming. Everything was going right. He had friends and all the toys he could have asked for. Now with the added knowing the he and his daddy like eachother more then just caregiver and baby.

It was those quick glances that resulted in flustered messes, butterflies swarming his tummy making him feel sick with joy, more and more soft kisses that made his knees give way. The world had brightened up, light poured in and took over the darkest corners, everything was alive. The birds sang songs, the flowers blossomed, the waterfalls splashed and his heart beat faster.

Now they both understood. They hadn't spoken a word about yesterday yet all the words that needed to be said did. They both wanted this. And to truth they got it.

Owen was slumped on the side of the couch, eyes drowsy and fingers sticky with chocolate sauce. Instead of using his spoon to eat cake, he used his fingers.

The TV blared a silly little program about bananas in pyjamas but Owen payed no mind to it as his daddy just come back into the room.

"Alright there sweetie?" Richy asked softly, crouching down to Owens level and wiping away the mess he has caused.

That's another thing that made flurries bounce inside of him. The cute nicknames and honorifics that bubbled up a cloud of delight. It made everything even more real.

"Yeah dada." Owen whispers, yawning and nodding his head.

"I think you need an early night tonight. Come on buddy let's get you ready." Richy turned of the TV and picked up Owen, his arms and legs wrapped tightly around and his head rested on Richy's shoulder.

"Do you think you could manage a bath?" Richy asked.

Owen nodded in reply. He loves baths. Playing with the water and splashing about, colouring on the sides in the special markers as well as the boats, ducks and mermaids he had. He never used to like them, always rushed to be scrubbed clean but now they were the best. His daddy was so very careful and he loved the smell of his shampoo and conditioner.

"Okay then, you won't be in there long mind. Just to get you all washed and clean." Richy said, turning on the taps tot he right temperature and pouring the bubbling bath in.

"Otay daddy. Pway wif duckies?" Owen asked.

"Yes, you can still play with your ducks."

Owen clapped his hands and smiled his toothy smile.

Richy put Owen down standing up, taking off his rocket top and his red skirt that he had chosen to wear. Richy remembered Owen twirling around in his room this morning, giggling and smiling happily. As long as his baby was happy, he didn't care what he chose to wear or play with.

He also took off his diaper and whipped him down before he plopped Owen in the water.

"Is it okay baby?" Richy asked.

"Yes dada. Good good." Owen nodded.

As Richy did say, he wasn't in the bath too long. Still he had his hair washed and body scrubbed with the flannel. He relaxed further as his daddy massaged his head and while he washed his back. That was his favourite part. 3 yellow ducks were floating around him but he was too tired to play with them, instead imagined them being pirates and stealing all his soap.

Owen started to giggle at his imagination and splashed his hands in the water, getting his daddy wet in the process.

"Oops, sowwy daddy." He said, though he didn't really mean it, it was funny seeing his daddy have drips of water on him as well as some suds in his own hair.

"That's okay munchkin. Right let's get you dried and put to bed."

Richy wrapped him in a fuzzy towel and brought him to the changing table in his room. Once in a fresh diaper and his lion onzie, Owen was half asleep and Richy chuckled at the sight. It was even more adorable then when he was awake.

He quietly made his way to his own room and tucked Owen up in the duvet. Richy kissed him on the cheek and whispered a 'goodnight' before going downstairs. He made sure to leave the door open and the monitor on so if anything happened he would hear.

Owen had heard his daddy's footsteps slowly get quieter. He didn't like how he was all alone and with his eyes still closed he moved his arms around, trying to find his teddy to snuggle with instead. But he found nothing.

Bolting upright, he scanned the room the best he could but it was slightly too dark to make out any soft toys. He tried to remember where he had last seen Bonni. It took him a while of thinking before he remembered he had taken her with him to watch TV.

With a smile on his face and his lion paws padding on the floor after he jumped from the bed, he ran as best he could to the stairs.

Owen wasn't paying much attention to where he was putting his feet and stumbled on the 2nd step. Falling and tumbling down the stairs. Head hitting hard and back rubbing against the carpet. He landed with a thud on his arm, right at the bottom.

It took him some time before the pain burst through him and he realised what had happened. Owen started to cry and scream.

Richy was only in the kitchen and had creaks upstairs but didn't pay any attention to it, thinking it was just the house as it was quite old. But what he didn't expect was the sudden thudding and wails of Owen.

Dropping his glass and plate of toast, he raced to the stairs. Richy knelt on the floor and picked up Owen as he continued to cry.

"Shh, shh. Oh baby what happened? Daddy's here now. Shh, shh." Richy cooed and said softly. He checked Owens body and found no obvious signs of anything broken only a bruise forming on his head.

"Dada." Owen hiccuped out.

"Daddy's here. Oh my goodness baby, you scared daddy. What were you soon going down the stairs?" Richy said, continuing to rub Owens back to get him to calm down. Which was working, he had stopped crying so much and was starting to breathe normally.

"Bonni here. I sowy daddy. No no." Owen whispered, clutching his daddy's top tight.

"Oh you wanted Bonni. You shouldn't be sorry okay, it was an accident. It's my fault for not picking her up as well. Just remember, if you need daddy and he's downstairs, call for him okay?" Richy soothed.

Owen nodded. He moved and shuffled into a more comfort position and went back to resting his head on his daddy's shoulder.

Richy stood up and went to the kitchen. He sighed at the broken glass, he'd wait till the morning to clean that up, and went to the freezer to get out an ice pack. He was glad that he put some in there, you never know when accidents will happen. Richy wrapped it in a small towel and placed it where the bruise was starting to form.

"Can you hold the ice pack on your head sweetie?" Richy asked.

Owen nodded quietly and held it the best he could to his head.

"Does anywhere else hurt?"

Owen nodded again and held up his left arm (he had landed on that one) and also pointed to his back.

"Okay, daddy will make you feel better don't you worry."

Richy then went to the living room, sitting down and wrapping the blanket around him and Owen. He kissed Owens forehead, his his arm and turned him around slightly to kiss his back. He then got himself comfy, relaxing as his little baby snoozed off, still holdings onto his ice pack.

They both ended up falling asleep on the couch. Snoring and all.

"Love oo dada."
