Chapter 33- Bad News

(~Mutt's POV~)

Checking my phone again, I start to get worried.

'It's been way longer than an hour. Did they find Y/N already? They couldn't have. I would've seen them walk by at least once.'

Right on time, I see Chara run past. However, nothing in her demeanor said that she was okay. She's initially FREAKING OUT, running as fast as her little legs could carry her. Chara stumbles and slammed into the snow face first. I mumble, "ouch.." Shortly after, I hear the reason why she's running.

Several of the Snowdin guards, which are preferably wolves or dog monsters, are snarling and barking in the distance. They're approaching fast and no doubt they're after her.

'Oh heck-'

I turn her soul blue, roughly jerking my hand towards me. Chara screams as she flies towards me. I catch her, the blunt force of us hitting each other made me lose my balance for a split second. Quickly recovering and repositioning myself, I cover her mouth, "D-Don't make a-a sound." Recognizing my voice, tears fall down her cheeks, relieved it was me.

I take my hand off her mouth and she immediately turns, clinging onto me. Chara's freezing cold, and trembling from fear. I look to the side, three royal guards approach on the path, looking for footprints. "Where did she go?!" One yells furiously. Another growls, "Keep looking! It couldn't have gotten far!" They run farther down the path.

I wait a full minute or two before turning my attention back to Chara, "Welp, my h-hiding spot is b-b-blown. S-Sorry for s-s-scaring ya. You o-okay kiddo?" Her grip around me tightens, but no answer. I sigh and pet her head.

'. . . Hang on.. She's alone.'

My tone turns serious as I ask, "Chara, w-where's Sans?" The kid looks terrified as it is, closing her eyes tight so she doesn't have to look down, "I-I don't know! He was with me. I got distracted looking for Y/N for a few seconds and then he was gone! I went back to the house to see if he had went there and.. those guards were there instead."

'Guards at the house...?'

Chara starts to cry, her voice cracking as she says, "They were talking about Y/N." My soul skips a beat. I immediately grab my phone and dial Sans' number. It rings for a few seconds.

'Sans, you better pick up.'

It continues to ring. Time seems like it slowed down as I start to panic.

'COME ON BRO! PICK UP!'

My call goes to voicemail. I stare at my phone in disbelief.

'Something's wrong.'

I inform Chara to keep her eyes closed, using a shortcut to get us back on the ground. I place her down, then grab her hand, "Come on-" I tug on Chara to walk beside me. She opens her eyes and nods, following closely.

I was rushing, going in the direction I'd last seen Y/N walk to.

'I told her not to go far. She has to be somewhere around here.'

For the next half hour, we searched the woods.

(~BONUS Chara's POV + Time Skip~)

I call out, "Y/N! Can you hear us?!" I search for clues in random bushes or in the snow. I hear no answer from Y/N, only birds and the wind weaving through the branches and leaves. Papyrus has been running all over the place, teleporting and exercising more than I've seen him do in any timeline. His breathing is panicked, he checks the same spots at least 4 times before moving on. It's been snowing the entire time, any tracks leading us to Y/N would've been covered by now, especially since it's been almost 2 hours. Without having any contact from Sans and no sign of Y/N-....
