KAMINARI LIGHTLY KNOCKED on y/n's door, pressing his ear against the wood. "Y/n? Are you still awake?" He muttered, just loud enough so he wouldn't disturb the other students who were asleep in their rooms.
Y/n's dorm was directly next to Kaminari's, which explained why he constantly heard her talking at odd times during the night. He assumed she was talkimg to her boyfriend, Shinso, but he was way wrong.
Like she said in her diary entry, she was only talking to herself to keep her from falling asleep.
There was no response, so he immediately assumed that she was in the common area.
"...I'm coming, y/n."
Y/n sat quietly at the kitchen table, slicing off a small piece of strawberry cake with her metal fork. She silently took a bite, enjoying the burst of delicious flavors baked by Sato.
She was curled into a ball on the wooden chair, pulling her hoodie over her head to cover her freezing face. She felt her toes curl from the cold, as she forgot to put on her socks before leaving her dorm room.
"...This is so lame." She whispered with a mouth full of cake, setting down her fork onto the table. She placed her forehead onto the back of her knees, wrapping her arms around her legs to make herself an even smaller human ball.
She felt her eyes struggle to flutter open, making her slightly panic. Don't...sleep...Don't...sleep...Don't....s-
"Oh, y/n?"
Y/n perked up so fast, she nearly gave herself whiplash. She peered over her knees to see Kaminari walking into the room, waving excitedly to his friend. "What are you doing in here?"
"Huh?" She whispered, staring at the boy with pure shock. This was the first time anyone had ever visited the common area at this hour, the clock reading 2 a.m.
"Having cake? Can I have some?" Kaminari, without letting her respond, grabbed a fork from the drawer and took a seat across from y/n at the kitchen table, leaning over and swiping a small piece of the sweet treat.
Kaminari's gaze shifted to the drowsy girl as he ate his cake from his fork, her eyelids slowly blinking up and down. She wasn't even looking at him...she seemed to be spacing out.
"...You aren't as lively at night, huh?" He mumbled through his food. Maybe if I can pry at her, she'll open up.
Y/n sat silently. That's right...he thinks I'm this bubble, happy girl all the time...But I'm so tired to act like that right now...
Her attitude suddenly shifted, her dull eyes becoming seemingly brighter. The color in her face returned, her brows lifted, and her cheeks plumped.
"Ha, I guess you're right! I'm just exhausted from training!" She grinned, pressing her palms into the table as she stood out of her chair.
Kaminari watched as she walked around the table towards the elevators, her giving him a tiny wave. "Eat the rest of the cake, kay? I'll see you in the morning!—"
"—Y/n."
She froze, his voice flat and low. She slowly turned over her shoulder to see Kaminari stand up from his chair, dropping his fork and abandoning the cake.
"K-Kaminari?" She whispered as the golden boy towered over her.
"...Are you okay?"
Y/n felt her heart physically squeeze, a sudden urge to cry arising from her tear ducts. Her brows snapped together at the sudden sentimental statement. She had to bite her bottom lip to stop it from quivering. "...Of course...Of course I am." She muttered, having to start her sentence over has her voice cracked with sadness.
"Really? I was asking because you've got bags now. Are you sleeping well?" He slipped his thumbs under her glasses (she usually wears contacts, but wears glasses at night), rubbing her under eye bags lightly with his fingers.
Her stomach flipped at the touch of his skin."...I said I'm fine, Kaminari."
Kaminari shifted his hands from her face to her shoulders, shaking her gently. "Are you sure? You know you can talk to me, right?—"
"Where is this coming from?" She asked, her tone changing to a slightly annoyed pitch. She slapped his arms off of her shoulders, stepping back. "I said I'm okay. I'm just getting a little nervous about graduation in a couple months, that's all."
Kaminari's arms froze in the air, shocked at her outburst and physical strike.
Y/n realized she had dropped her "sweet chick" act, her hitching quietly under her breath. "...S-sorry! I'm just a little stressed!" She chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck nervously.
Kaminari's eyes squinted, his lips drawing back into a snarl. "...Liar."
"Huh!?"
"You're lying! I know you are!"
It was no secret that Kaminari would press people when he wanted an answer, or wanted someone to do something. Back during their first year, he teased Jirou so much into performing for the cultural festival, that she eventually gave in.
If he could just do the same for y/n...
Y/n sighed. "Can we talk about this in the morning? It's getting late." She jeered, turning around and walking to the elevators.
Reluctantly, Kaminari agreed, turning back to the kitchen table to finish off the cake she had left behind.
As the two went their separate ways, Kaminari looked behind him and worriedly watched y/n return to her dorm.
...Will she be okay tonight?
