Travis: Hey, love. Whatcha doin?
Carmen: Nothing. Why?
Travis: Just curious.
Carmen: ... You sounded like Isabella from Phineas and Ferb in your first message.
Travis: Maybe I am her.
Carmen: 😮
He's trying to distract me from something. I texted him again asking what he wanted, and he didn't respond. Pretty sus, Travis.
"Whatever," I said aloud and flopped down onto my desk chair and attempted to focus on homework. I hate when teachers load you with that on weekends. Seriously? Sundays are a day of rest. Not a day of homework-I-didn't-finish-Saturday-or-Friday.
My volleyball laying on the carpeted floor of my room caught my attention. Procrastinating homework, I kicked my foot out, catching it with my toe. It pushed even farther away and I sighed with disappointment. I was so bored. Where's your boyfriend/best friend when you need him?
Tap, tap tap.
Someone knocked on my bedroom door. I went over and opened it, revealing a shiny, cute face.
"Hey, Travis," I said.
"Surprise," He smiled.
"What surprise?" I smirked.
"I came over. You didn't know it or suspect it. Surprise!"
"You're a dork and just on time," I rose on my tippy toes, hating my short height, and pressed my lips to his.
"Want to get ice cream?" Travis asked when we pulled away.
"Sure. Anything to pull me away from homework. I'm so done with it," I grumbled, "Let me just grab my wallet."
Travis grabbed me by the wrist.
"No, I'll be paying. My treat," He told me.
"Oh come on. I have a gift card. I can't let it go to waste," I said.
"So do I," Travis informed me.
"Fine," I huffed, "but I get next time."
"Well we'll see about that," Travis said. I slipped sneakers on at the door and we went on our way.
The nearest Dairy Queen was a five minute drive from my house. A perfect length for a country song or two. Beautiful Crazy and Does To Me played and we pulled into the parking lot.
We both got travel cups for our ice cream, so we didn't have to just eat it at the place. Travis drove us to a small park. The parking lot was right beside a lake, so we dangled our legs off the bed of the truck, eating our ice cream, and looking out at the water. The park was desolate except for the occasional jogger.
Heaven by Kane Brown seeped out of the speakers.
"I don't know how, I don't know how heaven, heaven, could be better than this..."
"So perfect how music relates to us," Travis sighs, putting his arm around my shoulder.
"Mhm," I muttered through a bite of delicious ice cream. I rested my head against Travis' shoulder.
The late afternoon sun shined down, glistening on the lake.
"Hey, Carmen..." Travis started. His voice was shaking slightly, like he was nervous.
"Yeah?" I said, I lifted my head and shifted to face him.
"I just want you to know-um-huh-uh," He was physically shaking.
"Travis, what's wrong?" I asked, concerned now.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing," Travis smiled.
"Okay?" I said, and gave him a smile. I rested my head back on his shoulder.
"I love you," His voice whispered. My smile broadened. I think my heart exploded.
"I love you too," I sat up and said. He looked so happy.
We finished our ice creams and headed back toward my house. He helped me out of his car and before I went into my house, I wrapped my arms around his neck in a giant hug and we kissed slowly. We had to be quick in order for my dad to not see us, but I was willing to hold onto him a little longer.
"See you later," I smiled and ran into the house. What a love sick teen I was turning into.
