Jamie’s POV

A light breeze rustled the tree leaves, as I sat on the small woodpile in front of my house, my head bent in concentration.

“Hey, Jamie,” Connor yelled running up to me. “Why haven’t you been dropping by anymore?”

“Mother says that you guys are a bad influence on me,” I explain keeping my focus on my work.

“What does she know, and we’re not…” Connor begins trailing off when he notices what I’m doing. “What are you doing?” he asks.

“Embroidery, Mother wanted me to learn it,” I say.

“So, you’re sewing? How will that come in handy?” Connor scoffs.

“It’s not just sewing,” I defend.

“So, it’s fancy sewing, big deal. Now, why don’t you ditch your sewing and we can drop by Matthew’s house. His mom made a pie today, and she said I should invite you over for some.”

“I can’t just ditch it.”

“Not even for pie?”

“No.”

“But we never get pie! This is a once in a life time opportunity Jamie, and you’re just going to sit here and let it pass?”

“I’ll drop by Matthew’s house tomorrow when I don’t have to work on this,” I say.

“But it might be gone tomorrow. Why wait?” Connor asks.

“Look, I’d love to go with but Mother wants this done today,” I say.

“So, if you get that done, we can go get pie?”

“Yes, but if you keep annoying me, I’ll never get it done.”

“How much do you need to get done?”

“Just the outside border, why?” I ask Connor before he takes the small piece of fabric, thread, and needle away from me. “Hey! What are you doing?” I yell.

“I’m going to help you get this done,” he says making large stiches in the fabric. I just let him finish the outside border. “Done,” Connor says happily, handing the cloth back over to me. His stiches were sloppy and large, making the handkerchief seem mediocre. I flip the cloth over and tie off the thread so the stitching doesn’t come undone.

“Hold out your hand,” Connor says. I do what he says, and he grabs the cloth away from me. “Here, now you can wear it around your wrist,” Connor says tying the fabric in a knot.

“Thanks,” I say. “So are we going to get that pie or not?” I ask standing up.

“Right, I’ll race you there!” Connor yells taking off.

“Hey, no fair! You got a head start!” I yell following him.

I smile thinking of the memory. It’s been so long since I was that carefree.

“Hey, Jamie,” Levi says breaking my thoughts.

“Yeah?” I ask.

“We have 3D gear training. Come on.”

“Okay,” I say putting away the paperwork I was assigned.

After hours of training, we all made our way back to headquarters. Everyone’s exhausted, and looking forward to dinner. I walk inside and remember that I have to get some files from Levi. I head to his office, since he came in before me. I walk to his office and knock on the door.

“State your name and business,” Levi says from the other side of the door.

“Or, you could you just let me in shit-face,” I remark.

“Come in, asswipe,” he says, allowing me to enter the room. I walk in to the room, and hormones are not in my favor. Seeing a slightly sweaty Levi (just sweaty enough for his shirt to stick to him), cravat and jacket removed, and shirt unbuttoned to the strap going across his chest, left me standing there a bit dumbstruck. Apparently I was standing like that for a minute or so, because Levi asks, “What are you staring at?”

At a lack for words, I was only able to mutter, “Huh?” Has Levi always been this attractive? What. No, bad Jamie, you can’t think stuff like that about your Squad Captain. I could feel my face heating up with these awkward thoughts.

“Your face is red,” Levi says standing up and coming over to me. “Are you feeling okay?”

“Huh? Oh, uh, yeah, I’m fine,” I say focusing on what was actually happening.

“So, what did you need?” he asks.

“Just some files for the paperwork you assigned me,” I say.

“Oh,” he says going over to the filing cabinet. I can see the muscles in his back move as he does, thanks to his shirt sticking to him because of sweat. “These ones?” he asks tossing them over to me. I just barely catch them, and drop half the files on the floor. Once I have each paper, I glance at them.

“Yeah, these ones, thanks,” I say exiting the room, in a hurry. I hate hormones, making everything all awkward.

Levi’s P.O.V

Well, Jamie more than hastily left the room after I gave her the files. What is her problem? First she comes in here, and just stares at me, and then she just turns red and seems unfocused. I might ask her about it later, but then again she’s brutally honest so I don’t want to deal with a personal, feminine-issue answer. If it happens again today, then I’ll ask her. Then again, why do I care this much?

Jamie’s P.O.V

It’s normal for me and Levi to just sit in his office and talk when we both can’t sleep, which is every night, but damn hormones made me not want to go talk. I don’t want to explain to him that I found him really attractive in those few minutes. I don’t know if that was just hormones being difficult, or if I really do think he’s attractive since I haven’t looked at him since. I nervously pace the length of my room, when a knock interrupts me.

“Who is it?” I ask trying to sound normal.

“I have to talk to you,” Levi says from the other side of the door. Oh, the world just hates me now.

“Alright come in,” I say sitting on the bed. Levi walks in and sits next to me. “So, you needed to talk to me?” I ask.

“Yeah, you’ve been acting odd today. Is something up?” Levi asks.

“No,” I say. See this was normal. It was just me and Levi having a conversation. No sudden attractiveness.

“I just wanted to be sure,” he explains.

“Since when did you have feelings?” I joke at him, earning me a glare.

“I’ve always had feelings,” Levi says harshly.

“I know. It was a joke,” I defend.

“It wasn’t a very good one,” Levi says leaving the room. Glad to know I’m not the only one having hormone issues. I take my eye patch off, take my medicine, and try to sleep.
