Jamie’s POV

“Erd, Gunter, and Jamie, you’ll be cleaning windows,” Levi says handing the cleaning supplies to us.

“Ugh, why do I always get stuck with cleaning windows?” I complain.

“Would you rather clean inside?” Levi asks.

“Yes, I would,” I say as if it were obvious.

“Alright you can clean the entire inside by yourself then. Is that better?” Levi remarks.

“I’ll clean the windows,” I say reluctantly. Levi nods, and walks inside. “Asshole,” I mumble.

Any normal person would question if I wanted to get my head torn off, but Squad Levi was used to the ongoing ‘rivalry’ between me and Levi, so me wanting to pull a small joke on Levi is completely normal.

“It was one of the conditions given to us when we took custody of you. You need to obey that rule,” Levi says to Eren. I slowly lower myself down using my 3D gear. There was a silence between Eren and Levi, within which, Eren made eye-contact with me for a brief few seconds. I raise the bucket I was holding and splash the water in it on Levi. He visibly tenses up before turning around to face me. The look on his face made me laugh more than I was.

“Why, you little,” is all he has time to growl out before I zip back up to the window I was just washing.

Perhaps there’s the chance I could be an enemy in this war. It seems unlikely, but the world keeps changing. One of these days, the role of hero and villain could be reversed. But as for now, I’m simply a soldier, fighting for what’s left of humanity. I’m a soldier that wants to see the end of this war, so I can try to have a normal life. An impossible dream, I know. There’s no possible way to have a normal life after living through this hell. I remember when I had careless dreams similar to the one I have now. Although, I can hardly remember the face of the person I had shared those dreams with. The memory of their face has slowly faded the parts of their face I can’t remember being replaced with someone else’s features. However, I can still remember the adventures we had.

“Come on Jamie! You don’t want to get left behind do you?” he taunts running ahead of me.

“You know I can’t run as fast as you three,” I say trying to catch up with them.

“Well that’s no good. If you can’t run fast, you’ll never be able to catch thieves,” he says stopping to look at me.

“Aren’t thieves only in the Underground?” I ask, confused about his statement.

“No. They’re everywhere. Didn’t you hear about the lady who had her house robbed in the middle of the night last week?” he asks me. I shake my head no.

“Well, you should keep informed about this kind of stuff. Information like that could help you get into the Military Police,” he says ruffling my hair.

“Oh. I’ll try to know about all that. That way we can join the Military Police together,” I say happily.

“Hey, Jamie, Connor! Come on! We’re never gonna get there in time if you don’t hurry!” Our friends yell from up further ahead.

“Right!” Connor yells to them. “Let’s go,” Connor says to me before taking off running again. I start running after him, trailing close behind.
