Warnings, angst ahead! But have faith, this is still very much a Damon/Claire story. Hope you like it, tell me what you think!CHAPTER 8
THE LEXI ISSUE
It was a few days after that disastrous Halloween party and Claire hadn't seen Damon since he had brought her home after. She had also tried to call him but had received no answer. She felt like he was avoiding her but she didn't know why. Claire had also tried to get Emily's necklace back from Bonnie but without results. Short of tear it from her neck, she didn't know how to get it back.
And now she was at the police station, answering her mother's questions about Vicki supposedly leaving town.
Claire sat in front of her mother, her desk separating them. Liz Forbes had found out about Vicki and was now interviewing everyone who could know something about it. It was obvious that she wasn't really buying the story they came up with to cover up the fact that Vicki was in fact dead but for now, all Claire and her friends could do was stick to their story.
"I don't even know why I'm here mom. It's not like me and Vicki were friends."
Liz sighed. "I know Claire but I'm questioning everyone that may know something about Vicki's disappearance."
"She didn't disappear mom, she just left." Claire was using her best 'oblivious, shallow cheerleader' voice. Even her mom would fall for it most of the time. It was a mask she had perfected over the years.
"Hum. And do you where she was going?"
Claire shrugged. "How am I supposed to know? I told you, we weren't friends. Why would she tell me where she was going?"
"Did she tell her brother where she was going?"
"As far as I know she didn't. Listen, I saw her for like two seconds at the Halloween party but then..." Claire raised her hands in the air to indicate that she didn't know where she went after that.
"Is there anyone I can talk to that may know what happened to her prior to her leaving town?"
"The last time I saw her, she was with Stefan and Elena at the party."
"Why was Stefan with her?"
"I think he was trying to help her. Vicki seemed...stoned maybe? She was acting weird. I don't know; and Elena asked Stefan to help her."
"You said Vicki was acting weird. Did you notice any signs of aggression or violence?"
Claire immediately remembered the vision she had of Vicki attacking Jeremy and Elena but her expression remained neutral. "Not that I noticed. But like I said..."
"You two weren't friends." Liz nodded but her expression was blank. "So, you really believe Vicki left town."
"Yeah. I mean. Maybe she's trying to get her head straight. It would make sense, right?"
Liz nodded and stood up from the chair she was sitting on. "Thank you honey. You can go."
"So, do you think she really left?" Claire couldn't help but ask.
"It seems that way."
"You don't seem convinced."
"I'm merely being cautious."
"Okay. I'll see you later at home then."
"Bye honey."
Claire left the room and found Matt and Elena still inside. They all left the station together and found Stefan waiting outside. Stefan blatantly ignored her presence and turned towards Matt, "I was trying to help her, Matt. That's all."
