Prologue

"It's hard to believe that at the age of twenty seven you still haven't settled down and had any kids yet, Lettie." Margot said, bouncing her cute little two year old up and down on her leg, blowing kisses at her as she cooed and giggled. She eyed her cousin who was sitting a few inches in front of her, frowning as she placed her hand over her mouth and whispered, "Your eggs aren't...ya know...dusty are they?" She questioned quietly, causing Lynett to look at her as if she'd lost her mind.

"Hey, you can't just say things like that out loud, you idiot!" She shot back, scanning around the room to make sure that none of her other family members had heard her cousin's statement. If they had, they would never let her live it down. Everyone in her family was always asking why she wan't married yet, and why she had still yet to have children. They really just wanted to know what the hold up was, but the answer was easy..not that any of her family ever liked her answer, but -

She just hadn't met the right guy. Simple as that.

Margot rolled her brown eyes as she leaned back in her chair, her brown hair laying against her shoulders. "I don't get what the big deal is, you know i'm just joking around, besides," she watched her closely, "half of the family is beginning to think that you're secretly a lesbian." She admitted, eyeing her curiously, "You aren't one, are you?" She asked as if she honestly didn't know the answer.

Lynett wanted to punch her. "I can not believe you, Margot, you know I like guys!"

Margot smiled slyly. "Yeah, I know, it's just that I haven't seen you with any guys in the past two to three years, and I was getting a little worried, you know?" She held her little girl against her chest as she continued on, "So, why don't you date anymore? I know there are some great guys who have tried to talk to you over the past couple of months, but you keep turning them down." She stated, "If I weren't a single mother, I'd jump right into dating one of them." She admitted, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively at her.

Lynett couldn't help but laugh a little. "Yes, i'll admit that they were attractive, but they just didn't seem like they had much substance. I feel like they were only after a good time, and I'm not looking for that if i'm being honest." She explained. "Not to sound creepy or overly deep, but the next guy that I date, I plan on marrying."

Her cousin snorted loudly, "I seriously doubt that."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"That you'll never get married because you don't even give any of the guys that show interest in you a chance! They're not all bad, you know?" She said pointedly, just as her phone began to ring. She glanced down at it before swearing. "Crap." She let out, reaching for her phone. "I totally forgot that I was supposed to meet up with him tonight." She groaned, giving her cousin a sheepish look before answering her phone. "Hey, Tony, what's up, dude!" She answered excitedly.

Lynett watched as her cousin's face lit up as she talked on the phone.

"Really? That sucks, I hate to hear that," she replied, "and yeah, my baby is doing fine as always. She misses her big, tall friend. You should come and see her again when you're free." She chatted away happily. "Oh yeah, I don't think I'll be able to meet you and drop off that cake tonight." She waved her hand, "Yeah, it's getting pretty late and I have to put Amy down to bed in a while. I really wish that there was a way that I could-" she trailed, before her eyes met her cousin's, sending her a look that practically said, 'If you do this one thing for me, i'll owe you big time.'

Lynett shook her head, and Margot made a face as if she was going to cry. Lynett hated when she made that face. After a two minute stare down she finally gave in. 'Fine ' She mouthed back to Margot.

Margot smiled widely as she went back to talking over the phone. "Hey, on second thought, I can get my cousin to drop the cake off. No, it's no problem really, it'll be headed on her way home anyways...okay, awesome, I'll give her your address, Bye." She song sweetly before hanging up her phone. "Man, I love that guy."

Lynett looked at her as if she had grown a second head. "Is that some secret boyfriend or something?" She asked in disbelief.

Margot looked as if she was going to throw up. "Gross," she scrunched her face up, "That was one of my good friends from college. We try to stay in touch as much as possible, he comes over and watches Amy sometimes when he's not working. It's pretty rare when I get to see him, but he's the best. His name is Antonio Rossi.  He owns the Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away from your place. I'm surprised you've never once eaten there."

"You know I don't like to try new things."

"Yeah, I know, it kind of sounds like your dating life too." She agreed. "But anyways, I promised that I would make his mother a birthday cake and drop it off at his restaurant. I have the cake in the fridge, it's more of a cheesecake than a cake, but that's what he insisted on." She said, getting up and walking to the kitchen. She grabbed the cake that was sitting in a white box and handed it to her. "I already told him that you were on your way and to be expecting you. Thank you so much, Lettie, I really do owe you one." She lead her to the front door and smiled. "Tell Tony I said that i'll make it up to him as well."

"Yeah, Yeah." Lynett called as she headed to her car.

"And Lettie, don't fall too hard okay?" She shouted with a wink, causing Lynett to roll her eyes. She didn't know what her cousin was talking about, but she was sure it was nothing good if it was coming from her. As she got into her car and shut the door, she couldn't help but chuckle. Crazy or not, she had to admit that she did love her cousin. She was her best friend after all.
