Chapter Four
Lynett had finished up with work around five o'clock and had headed back to her apartment to get changed before going over to her cousin's house. She ended up throwing on a plain white long sleeve sweater and a pair of blue jeans.
She was now pulling up into her sister's driveway. She frowned slightly when she noticed her sister's black Toyota Camry, and then another black car sitting next to her's.
She turned her ignition off and headed towards the door. She had really hoped that Margot hadn't decided on inviting one of their other family members. If she had, Lynett would most definitely be leaving early. She didn't have the strength to argue with any of her family over her career choices or why she still wasn't married.
When she made it to the front door, she knocked a couple of times before Margot came barging towards the door and swinging it open as she laughed. "Lettie!" She announced happily, her brown curly hair hanging freely over her shoulders.
She was wearing a light pink blouse, and a pair of blue jeans as well. She opened the door wider and welcomed her in. "Excuse the mess. Amy and her friend did a number on my living room." She explained as Lynett looked around, being careful not to step on any of the dolls and Princess cars laying out.
Margot started picking up a few of the toys as she continued talking. "The food is finished and sitting on the table. I'm just going to clean up a few of these toys first."
Lynett hung her purse up by the door and helped her. "I'll help you real quick," she joined in, helping until they had gotten most of the toys up. "So Amy has a friend over? Is that why there's another car in your driveway? It's another parent?" She questioned.
Margot gave her a look that looked a little sheepish before opening her mouth. "Ah, no, about that-" she began just as a man stepped from around the corner, carrying Amy on his back.
"Last time I checked I wasn't your chauffeur." That familiar, deep voice grumbled; although, she could hear the amusement in it.
"Wats a jo fair?" Amy's little face scrunched up, and Antonio shook his head.
"Never mind, sweet pea." He chuckled as Amy squeezed his neck, giggling.
"I not sweet pea!" She told him sternly.
The two laughed together before Antonio lifted his eyes and they fell upon Lynett who stood frozen like that night at the restaurant, only this time there was a paw patrol toy and a Barbie Princess car cradled against her chest.
"Hi, Lynett." He smiled widely, those bright white teeth shining again as he took her in.
Lynett glanced at her cousin, and she gave her a look to stop being so rude. Lynett sighed as she turned back around, slight nervousness filling her stomach. Why was she so nervous? "Um, hey, Antonio." She acknowledged him, then quickly shifted her eyes to anything else but him.
Margot took the toys from her hands and sat them in a box close to the tv. "Sorry for not telling you earlier, but Tony said that he had some free time tonight and that he wanted to come and see Amy. I figured since he was over, the more the merrier, and so I texted you to come. I thought it would be fun, plus, I thought it would only be fitting that you two officially meet one another since you both are very important people in my life." She explained.
Antonio had taken Amy off of his back, despite her small protests and had handed her over to Margot. "I hope me being here doesn't take away from ya'lls regular hang out time." He told Lynett, and she felt sort of like a jerk.
"No, you're fine." She replied, "I just wasn't expecting another person to be here, but I suppose it'll be nice to officially meet the man that my cousin seems worthy enough to be her friend. If you haven't noticed she's really picky..and hard to be around." She thew in, causing Antonio to grin.
"Oh, trust me. I know all about her tight ship." He looked at her seriously, "You didn't have to sign a contract before becoming her cousin did you?" He joked, and Margot glared at them both.
"Very funny, you guys." She rolled her eyes, before pointing to the kitchen. "Let's go ahead and get started eating before the food gets cold." She said, leading the way.
Antonio traveled beside Lynett as he whispered. "I think we better fix our own plates. I have a feeling she might poison us." He teased. Lynett felt a grin making way.
"Or worse, slip a laxative in." She whispered back.
When she didn't laugh Antonio made a surprised face. "Oh, you're serious." He stated and Lynett fell into a fit of giggles.
"Yep." Was all she said as she took her seat at the table across from him. He continued to watch her, happy that she didn't seem so guarded like she had at the restaurant. She was a lot more relaxed and had even joked around with him a little. He was definitely looking forward to tonight.
"Oi," Margot said quietly as she elbowed him in the back. "You're not going to fawn over my cousin all night are you?" She commented as Lynett played with Amy, oblivious to their conversation.
He turned to take the plate from her hand. "Would you like me to be fawning over you instead?" He asked smartly and she shot him a look.
"You're definitely not my type." She deadpanned, smiling a bit, "but who knows, you may be Lettie's type." She wiggled her eyebrows.
Antonio shook his head. "Brash as always."
"Only where it counts." She said before walking over to Lynett and handing her a plate as she brought out the rest of the food.

Margot was happy Antonio had been able to come over tonight, it had been so long since she had seen him, and she was glad that her inviting over Lynett had also worked in.
Sure Lynett had been a little cold at first, but she could see that her cousin was opening up more to Antonio as they joked around at the table. Margot shrugged. If it meant that she was willing to joke around with him just because they both shared the common joy of getting on Margot's nerves she didn't mind.
She took a bite of her taco as she thought back on Antonio's words the day after Lynett had dropped the cake off at his restaurant. Antonio had called her to thank her for having the cake delivered and how he missed seeing her and Amy, but not before mentioning Lynett. He hadn't given much away, and she doubted that her cousin had stayed around and talked to him that night, but she could tell by the tone of his voice that he was indeed infatuated with her.
Margot couldn't blame him, she was a beautiful woman, and smart too, she was sure he'd find that out later. And she was actually fun to be around when she wasn't being so closed off.
She sat her hand under her chin as she watched them. She guessed she was probably also to blame. She had talked about Lynett day and night ever since she had met Antonio, practically shoving the girl's existence down his throat. It was only natural that when they had met he had already been half way in love with her just from Margot's constant stories about her.
He had never once said it, but she knew he always looked forward to hearing about her cousin even though he had never met her nor seen a picture.
She went back to eating, humming quietly to herself. Who would've thought that she was match maker material? If anything, hopefully tonight would be a starting point for the two.
