Ravage ♥ Chapter One. [ Unedited ver. ]

I straightened out my jacket, pulling the sleeves down as I looked at myself in the mirror. I had spent most of the night and far into the morning with Xander on the edge of the forest. I learned so much and I coveted for more knowledge about his kind. About anything that lived beyond my little part of the world in general.

I sighed, pulling my hair over one shoulder, glad to be free of my nightdress and into something more comfortable. I felt the cold wood under my feet as I walked out of my room and down the stairs. I grabbed my worn dark brown knee high boots and tugged them on, listening to the sizzle of the stove in the kitchen. “Aella?” I heard my father’s voice ring throughout the house.

“I’m here.” I replied, pulling on my other boot before walking into the kitchen to see him clad in his usual neatly pressed white shirt and trousers. However, today he had a pink apron on over himself. “I see you’re widening your wardrobe.” I commented, a grin on my face.

“Ha, ha. Very funny. This is your apron and I’d rather it get dirty than myself.” He spoke, motioning for me to hand him a plate off the table. Instead of my usual witty comeback, I found myself staring at his face to see the many lines permanently embedded in his features, ones that had seemed so nonexistence just a few hours ago. He raised his eyebrows, “Are you okay, Sweetie?”

I cleared my throat, nodding once and looking down at the pancakes my father was making. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He had three pancakes cooking in the pan, all of them featuring smiley faces. When I was a small child, I had really enjoyed making the designs and pouring the batter over it to make unique looking pancakes. I still did, but getting up earlier to be able to have the time to do that seemed silly when I could rest a few extra minutes.

I sat down at the table after taking my plate filled with food and muttered a thank you. He sat down across from me at our small table and looked up at me. “Have you seen Andrea this morning?” He questioned curiously as he cut his pancakes.

“No, Why?” I asked, standing up to grab a glass of milk.

“She didn’t come home last night.” He replied quietly, eyes cast down to the table. That explained why I was able to sneak out so easily the previous night.

“Oh.” I wasn’t sure what to say, Andrea was my father’s sister who stayed with us here in our home on the outskirts of town. She was much like a cat, coming and going whenever she wanted without anyone’s approval. The longest she’d ever been gone was a few weeks but she always came back.

It was silent for a few moments before my father broke the silence, “I’m sure she’ll return safely.” He stated, I had learned by now that it was more a reassurance to him than me.

“She will.” I confirmed, flashing a smile when seeing the distress evident in my father’s eyes.  We finished our breakfast in silence, he eventually got out causing a loud screech from the chair’s legs on the floor and disappeared from sight after leaving his dishes in the sink. I knew that if I wanted to go back to see Xander again today that I would have to wait till he left for work.
