Lex ran out of the room after Grace gave their handlers her timeline. Lex knew she was feeling emotional.
“ Grace, stop! “
Grace turns around, her eyes blazing with rage. Causing Lex’s stomach fill with butterflies.
“ What? What Lex?! “ Lex gently but firmly grabs her arms,
“ Calm down! The stress isn’t good for the baby? “ Grace bursts into tears.
“ Shsh! It’s going to be OK! “ Leo tried to hug Grace, but she pulls away.
“ Listen to me, sis! This is the council’s doing, not Lane’s. I’m sure he’s in deep grief for you! “ Grace sits down to start calming down, when Tammy walks in.
“ Grace, I hope you’re alright! I have a Dr appt set up for you, if you’re up for it! “ Lex smiles,
“ I would love to go with you! “
Tammy shakes her head no,
“ This is the first time any of you have been out of the house. We need to be careful! “
Lex feeling dejected & disappointed goes to the living room.
Tammy & Grace climb into a tinted window SUV & drive for 10 minutes to a Grey & brick building. After they entered into the waiting area. “ Who are we going to see? “
“ Her name is Dr. Wade! “ Moments later a black lady named Dr Wade walked out,
“ Ladies, please follow me! “ Tammy & Grace follow her to an exam room.
“ Alright Ms. Appleton, let’s take a blood test to confirm the pregnancy! “
She draws the blood & handed the test tube to her nurse to take to the lad. After doing a vaginal exam, Dr Wade got the ultrasound machine out & rolled over to her.
“ Are you ready to see your baby?”
Grace nodded because she was feeling emotional. Tammy held her hand whispering,
“ Pretend he’s here! We’ll try to get this wrapped up quickly! “ Gracelyn nods as Dr Wade gets the gel out for her belly.
“ Please lift your shirt. This might be a little cold! “ Dr Wade puts the gel on Grace’s belly. After a few moments they could hear the baby’s heartbeat, whoosh! Whoosh!
“ That’s the heartbeat! And here is your baby! “
“ It’s only the size of a jelly bean! “ Grace exclaimed through her tears.
“ Would you like a picture? “
“ Yes two. “
“ Why two? “ Tammy asked while squeezing her hand.
“ I want to make two baby books. One for me & one for Lane! “
“ We can pick up several baby books on the way home. “ After the appt, Grace was alone in the SUV, she sees Tammy’s phone.
Knowing that she had Lane’s number memorized. Several minutes Grace struggles wanting to talk to Lane, but doesn’t. Then Tammy comes out of the store.
Upon arriving home Grace went to her room & locked the door. Lex knocks on the door,
“ Go away! “
“ Grace! Talk to me! “ Lex continues to knock on the door.
“ Can you make this stop? “ Grace cries between sobs.
“ No, but I’m here for you to lean on.! “ Lex kept tapping on the door.
“ I miss Lane! I want to talk to him! I almost called him! “ Leo was in disbelief,
“ Grace, what? You can’t do that? Let me in, we can talk! “
“ Come in! “ Grace unlocks the door & Lex goes in.

Lane has called Ana Lucas from Trending Magazine.
“ Hello Ana! “
“ Hello sir. What can I do for you? “
“ I would like to schedule a time to discuss with you about the dating season thing! “
“ What is it? “
“ It’s going to be a regular Gala season! “
“ A regular Gala Season? The Board of Directors said you would be looking for a wife and first lady! “

“ have a good day Ana! “ After they hung up Lane poured himself a scotch to ease his nerves. As he sipped his drink his eyes came across his wedding picture with Grace.

****Director’s Suite****
There was a knock on the door, Matthew answered the door. “ Hello, we’re here to meet Barlow! “
“ This way! “ Matthew leads the man & woman to his father’s study.
“ Hello Chad! I see she is with you! “
Barlow smiles as he let’s his quests in.
“ Barlow, please meet my sister Cassandra Vests” Cassandra curtsied low in front of Barlow.
“ it is a pleasure to meet you!”
“ The pleasure is all ours! My son Matthew and I will be sponsoring you for the dating season. “
“ Why sir? “ Cassandra asked curiously.
“ Gov Lane will be seeking for a wife and first lady. I want you to win! “
Cassandra smiles, then laughs. “ I would love to get to know Gov Lane. But I hear he is married! “
Barlow chuckles, “ He was. But his wife was murdered. She was sweet, but I have a feeling you’ll be better queen. Let’s talk about what to expect during the dating season."
After a very long discussion Cassandra looked directly at Barlow,
“ What are my chances of actually winning To be Gov Lane’s wife? I want to be able to love him & for him to love me! “
“ You’ll do great my dear! You’re on the winning team. The biggest thing is helping him to totally forget Grace was ever in his life. “
Barlow smiles at Cassandra. After they leave, Barlow laughs as he drinks his rum, Gov Lane you need to forget & move on. Once Cassandra is in your life & wife. You’ll not see what’s coming!

After entering the study, Bronte comes before Lane. " Gov Lane, Jack Meyers & Jonix Stevens from New York are here from New York. "
" Bring them in Bronte. I need you & Dean to stay with me during this meeting. " Lane then instructs Bronte to let the men into his study.
" Good afternoon gentlemen, please have a seat. This is Bronte, my head of security, & Sir Dean Wells, my top advisor. They will be attending this meeting." Both men sat in wing back chairs across Lane's desk.
" Mr. Stevens, Mr. Meyers I'm ready to hear. Please understand Your sons did some very serious crimes, . " Jack Meyers nods slowly,
" Gov. Lane, what we've heard is that Gavin gave you something that causes you to pass out?" Lane glares at him," To have me kidnapped by Dane's men!"
" We know that Dane is responsible in what happened. Is there a way to release them to us with a written agreement that they're not allowed back into this state."
To gather his thoughts Lane momentarily got up & walked to the bar cart,
" Would you gentlemen like a glass of scotch & whiskey?"
" Scotch." Both men replied, Lane pours them 2 tumblers full of scotch. Lane looked at the amber liquid in his tumbler,
Do you realize that your son Dane took out two members of my family? That's murder! Dane took my wife from me! I loved Grace dearly! I miss her everyday! NOW I HAVE TO GO THROUGH A BACHLOR SEASON! I really hate That!"
" Gov Lane, I'll make sure my sons will never step foot into your state!" Jonix Stevens states, Lane glares at both of the men.
Ok, gentlemen, this the only compromise I will make with you. Your son Gavin can go with you. He will be served Banishment papers. If he returns, he will serve life sentence. As of Dane, I can reduce his sentence from Death to life sentence. That's the best I can do"
Jack looked at Jonix, " Sir, I believe this is a good compromise. Dane will not lose his life. That's better than before. Make sure our families do not Cross again. " Jonix thinks for a moment then stands extends his hand,
"Gov. Lane, I'm sorry for the loss of your wife & brother. I knew Grace, she was my daughter in law. I liked her. My wife was friends with her. When will we be able to take Gavin home? "
Lane stands up taking Jonix's hand, " Deal. Please remember if Gavin steps back into this state, he will be arrested. Then he'll have to serve his time in the cells. Am I clear? "
" Agreed. "
Gavin Stevens will be released today. You'll be escorted by the guard to the airport. I'm sorry but it's for security reasons. "
" I understand. This was my sons doing. Again I'm sorry for your loss. " Lane gives a curt nod as Bronte escorted them out of the study.
Within a few hours, the three men were on the Stevens private jet. Jonix took out his phone to make a phone call.
"Hello Mr. Stevens."
" Hello Barlow. "
" How did your conversation with the Governor go? "
" He allowed Gavin to go with banishment papers. But he's keeping Dane. Changed sentencing from Death to life. "
When my suitor wins, the Gov will be dealt with & I'll make sure to get Dane to you. "
" Thank you Barlow. Glad we could help. I'm sorry that Dane didn't get the Gov. But I'm glad we could help. "
****New Orleans****
Dwayne received a call from his contacts in California, he went to go find Lex & Grace.
Hey, you two I have news from California. "
" What is it? " Grace asks curiously,
" Jonix Stevens met with Gov Lane. He allowed Gavin to go with Banishment papers. "
" That's OK. But what about Dane.? "
"' He stays to serve life instead of the death penalty. " Grace Shook her head walking away, Lex confused follows her.
Sis, what is it? " Grace looks at Dwayne & Tammy,
" Can I go home now? I miss my husband"
" Not yet. We need to see if they try to rescue Dane. Until then it's not safe for you to return. "
At least let me contact Lane. " Dwayne puts his hand on her shoulder, " We think there's an inside job here. You two were not the targets, he was. Making contact with him, may put him in danger as well. "
Grace nods and heads to her room.
" Grace, what is it? " Lex asks softly,
" Lex, I want to go home to Lane. I need to be with him! "
I know you do. " Lex squeezes her shoulders as tears swell up in her eyes,
" Lex, Lane is going through a Bachlor season & he doesn't have to! I'm alive! " Grace bursts into tears, Lex pulls her into his arms. He holds her until her tears stop. They're looking eye to eye at each, without thinking Lex leans in to kiss her. But Grace turns away.
" No Lex, I love... "
Lane, I know. I see how he fell in love with you. "
" I can't or won't let anything happen. Lex, he has my heart. " Grace goes into her room, locking the door behind her. Leo lowers his head as he walks away.
****Council House****
Matthew knocks on the door of his father's study,
Come in. "
" Hello Father. "
" How is Lady's Cassandra's training going? "
" Very well. She had some courtly training through her mother. "
" Our mother did her best in training us while we were growing up. " Chad chimed in,
Father, we really need to halt the suitor portion of the social season. Gov Lane's heart isn't in it. He has told me himself. He'll go through the season, but he's not looking. "
" Are you pleased with her training? " Barlow glares at Matthew, " Yes, sir. Cassandra is excited to meet Gov Lane & wants to win his heart. He'll forget Grace when he gets involved with her. Plus it's good for California, plus Grace didn't give him a child. Since his father & brother gone, his business has no family to continue " Matthew bows & leaves the room.
Let Cassandra focus on winning Lane's heart, once she weds him our work will begin. Grace's ex will be useful later. We will have California where we want her. "
****Lane's Study****
After Bronte escorted the two men out of the study, Lane poured himself & Dean some whiskey,
I'm going to need a drink after this meeting. " Dean stated flatly. Lane let out a dry chuckle,
" I agree. There's no way I was going to release Dane. I watched him aim at that gun at my chest. Grace saved my life. I'm sorry but my love for her is very deep. Whatever ladies that come to get my heart, I'm not ready. "
"I understand. What about a baby for the company?" Dean inquires as he takes a drink. Lane looks out the window, " I'm working on something.
Most of all I really want to cancel the bachelor season. " Lane takes he tumbler holding it up,
" Grace, my sweet love, I miss you! I love you with everything in me! " Lane takes a drink while his tears fall.
Dean takes a drink trying to fight his own emotions. His heart broke for his best friend. He thought the first bachelor season was rough, this one was going to almost impossible.
