Mahen Gujral, who had a shocker of a day, could not go to his office in the evening and even informed at home about him arriving late. Nothing of the issue at hand had been divulged in both places.
At home, Madhu was in a great mood because Reema had secured excellent marks in her class unit tests. She had been tirelessly teaching her both younger kids in the evening after coming back from office. So, it's also a happiness of her hard work paying off. So, overall the family was in a happy mood today and wanted to celebrate the Reema's achievement.
Shehnaaz came back from her classes around 7 pm. As soon as she came, Reema, Yash and Madhu shared the happy news with her. So, Shehnaaz and Madhu decided to bake a chocolate cake, specially for Reema. When Reema and Yash went out to play with their neighborhood friends, Shehnaaz and her Mumma started to prepare the surprise.
Shehnaaz was very emotionally close to both parents. She used to have heart to heart talk with her father, specially when she was upset and needed advice. She used to learn about life's lessons, practical knowledge, skills from her Mumma.
Madhu, though a disciplinarian, ensured that she also had a healthy bond with her kids. And being a working woman herself, she used to borrow these moments while doing tasks with the kids. Even today, while baking cake, she was having heart to heart talk with Shehnaaz, so that she can impart some wisdom in her eldest child without being bossy. Shehnaaz also enjoyed these special moments with her Mumma. This is the reason she would spend most of her evenings with her mother, it would also freshen up her mind after full day of study. Being in 12th std really takes up a lot of energy and concentration while studying.
The communication was not just from Madhu to Shehnaaz, it was both ways. And Madhu used to ensure not to feel offended or over react to things that Shehnaaz shares. Being a teenager, sometimes, her talks were difficult to digest for Madhu. But she used to be a good listener and correct her if required.
Today, while they were baking, Shehnaaz shared that her friend in class, Menka, found a love letter in her desk written by a boy from another section and the gossip that happened around it. A well educated and grounded mother that Madhu was, she still got alerted. Though they never stopped Shehnaaz from befriending boys, but still love letter and all was something which was a tabboo. And before Madhu could react, Shehnaaz cleared the air that she will not get into all this stuff, as she had sensed her mother's worry.
So the cake was ready and kept hidden in the closet in kitchen where it was cooling down and away from the prying eyes of the 2 monsters. Though Riya and Yash could smell the cake's aroma all over the house and they tried hard to search for it, but smart Mumma had carefully hidden it.
Today dinner was delayed as all were waiting for Papa to come back. By the time he reached home, it was 9 PM. Kids were too hungry as waiting was not their cup of tea. So, as soon as Papa came, he ensured that he changes quickly and joins the family at the dining table. Till that time, Madhu and Shehnaaz had started to set the table for dinner. Papa Gujral ensured that no job stress spills over during dinner and the kids day's events are discussed and they have a relaxing time. Madhu and himself, they both had conditioned themselves like that. But during the talks, his mind kept diverting to today's incident, specially more after seeing his two girls, it reminded him of Sonali. Shehnaaz noticed her father was a bit occupied in thoughts, but she assumed it could be because of tiredness. Mahen thought to share the incident with Madhu as he was worried for his own daughters too.
Meanwhile, dinner was over and the kiddos were busy in their usual banter. This is when Mumma and Shehnaaz brought the cake out with loudly saying 'surprise!!!!'.
Mumma proudly shared the reason of celebration with Papa, and Reema was made to cut the cake. Yash joined in, obviously, because he would join in everybody's cake cutting, the perks of being the most pampered kid. There are so many unsaid emotions between a husband and wife, so many emotions conveyed only through eyes. So, while kids were busy enjoying the cake cutting, Mahen stole some special moments to express gratitude to Madhu for her hardwork with the kids. Ofcourse it's her duty as a mother, but that never goes unnoticed by Mahen.
Shehnaaz got the plates and spoons and served a piece of cake to everybody. The advantage of serving to others was also that she would help herself with some extra piece, as she loved cakes, specially the ones made by her mother. Madhu silently observed her and was already aware of her daughter's sneaky habit but chose to let her enjoy.
Soon after, all brushed their teeth and retired to their beds to take good rest and start the next day with a fresh mind.
Finally, Mahen got some time to share today's incident with Madhu. Just as they reached their room, Mahen's phone rang. It was a call from his father, informing him about a marriage in the family of a close cousin. Mahen being the eldest sibling, it was important that he attends the marriage. Even Madhu was required to attend the marriage. After exchanging the usual talk about health and life as such, the call got ended. So, now, considering the marriage dates, a new discussion started between Madhu and Mahen. The dates of marriage clashed with Shehnaaz's exams and there was no way they could make her skip the exams or Madhu could leave her with some relative. After a lot of debate, it was finally decided that only Mahen will attend the marriage function, which was going to be in next week. Since the situation completely changed after the call, Mahen could not share anything with Madhu and left the topic for next day.
So, basically, Mahen and Madhu being ideal parents were living life like a duck - keep calm on surface but paddling rigorously under the water (see media pic).
How long will the surface remain calm? Will this calmness be beneficial or disadvantageous for the family?
