Chap-11
'This sucks!', I thought to myself for the...millionth time. I was in the plane, sitting next to my uncle, who used to hate me forever, but he apparently, he actually loved me-deep down.
Meh, I don't know...
Anyway, I'm still kind of happy. I mean, not bout leaving my parents behind and going away with my uncle, knowing that he might have friends in gangs who...well, let's just be modest and say that they could kill me.
I had more terrifying thoughts for a while, before I just fell asleep.
When I woke up, the plane was landing. It soon did, and we got of at the plane and headed out. We were to take a train from wherever the hell this was and go to New Jersey.
In about an hour, we were on the train. I slept through most of that journey too. And I was totally out of sleep once e reached the station and took a cab.
Dylan lived a few minutes' walk away from the university. He had a two bedroom apartment.
I must say, I was surprised that the house was so neat. I was also surprised that the furniture was so good, clean and well matched.
"Wow! Who thought Dylan Hastings could handle owning a house, let alone maintaining it." I said, sarcastically.
"Cut it out." He replied.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. Did I say that aloud? I didn't mean it." Sarcastically, again.
I took my stuff and headed inside the first door that I saw. I was right, it was the free bedroom. It looked practically empty. It just had a bed for two, a cupboard, a bedside table and a small loveseat with a TV. It was cute and cozy. Almost everything was white, except the TV.
I dropped my bags and jumped on the bed.
Before I knew it, I was asleep. How the hell do I sleep so much? Oh, right. It must be cause I hadn't slept for 30 hours or so before boarding the plane. This sucks.
I woke up and looked around. It was dark, but a small glow in the dark click was on the table beside me. It was 2a.m., and I was super hungry.
I took the sheets off me and opened the door to the room. The lights in the front room were still on, but I decided to get something and then go out. I entered the only room without a door, that was right across the small passage. I turned on the light and looked for some bread for a sandwich.
I'd just finished making it when I heard the doorbell.
I sneaked a peek at Dylan. I thought it was his girlfriend or something, so I didn't want to interrupt.
He opened the door, and a well built brunette, about five-nine entered the house. He had light brown eyes and spiky brown hair with a clear lip line. He had on some black Jeans, with a black leather jacket that was zipped up to his chin. Black Nikes too.
"Hey man." Greeted Dylan, "What you doing here?"
"Sorry man. Got to crash. Her stupid drunk ass kicked me out, again."
"Dude, I just got back man."
"So?"
"My sister's daughter's with me."
"Sorry man. But what can I do? I don't have the cash for a hotel." The guy looked disappointed. I felt pitiful. The drunk girl he was talking about was probably either his mother, or his wife or whatever. If this guy was Dylan's friend, he needed help. And so I thought that I should step in. I know that this is Dylan's decision, but he needs help, besides the point, but he's also really hot.
The guy was leaving, but then I came out of the shadows and said, "It's okay. He can crash on the couch." The guy turned around and smiled at me.
"I'm Jay." He said, extending his hand towards me.
"Cassie. Nice to meet you." I said, shaking his hand
"Okay, then. Now that Cass is fine with it, you can crash on the couch." Dylan said, "I'm going to fetch something to eat." He went into the kitchen.
I sat on the couch, so did he. And a little later, the silence got awkward.
"So, you go to Princeton too?" I asked
"Nope. I'm still in high school. Senior year."
"So how do you know Dylan?"
"We met at a video store. And I honestly have no clue how we became friends."
I just nodded. Then Dylan came back with some wafers and coffee.
"Jay, you on break?" Dylan asked.
"Yeah, why." Jay replied.
"I was wondering if you could show my baby niece around."
"Yeah, sure."
"Thanks." I said.
I finished my coffee, and I was starting to get bored. So I said, "I'm gonna go to bed. Good night."
"Oh, Cass-" Jay paused, "I can call you Cass, right?"
"Yeah."
"Great, so listen, be ready by about 9 tomorrow. Were going to New York."
"Yay!" I cooed, unenthusiastically. New York was Kay's dream city. And right now, probably my least favorite place.
'Deal with your shit, Cass.' A voice in my head said.
