Chapter 10
I felt the dullness of the confines of my room. Its been a week since I got home from the hospital. The doctor adviced I should take a break for a while.... which only means no school for a month and wolves... yeah thats what I thought..... Viggo, I haven't seen him since his visit from the hospital. What happened to Let me take care of you? That's a good thing right? He won't be there to make me feel those unusual feelings and I won't be a fool and let my emotions get the better out of me. He might not be here, but I could still feel his presence... in his absence the other wolves in his pack have taken turns in guarding me, it's downright annoying. I told them that it wasn't necessary, but my plea was never heard... I get it, they're just following orders from the next Alpha... now what am I suppose to say to that? This day might be another of those boring tea time session with aunt Luciana... I sighed knowing that it was likely to happen. The Saturday morning brew covers down the entire manor, the people in the house have their own fill of their respective jobs... me? Don't ask. On my knees I'm ready to make a dash for the gates... I just hope I get out on time before the gates closes. My breathing was slowly accelarating, trying to summon all the courage I have to make this run. The moment the gates open, then it would be my que. Bernati was in his usual game... checking the cars if they're good to go. The machine that controls the collosal gates, released the beeping sound signaling that the gates would open any minute now. My knees were slightly shaking from the stance I was in... I had this head count to when I would make a dash for it... one.... two.... run!
The wind was blowing strongly making the cold temperature icy, giving off signs of the long winter. The air was cold, but it felt good on my face... now that I'm running on the woods, I felt the liberty I lost when I got back from the hospital. I almost stumbled down when I saw a wolf staring up at me, ahead. How stupid of me to think that I could have escaped humans, but of course not them not the....wolves. It was a good thing I didn't fall on my face, but the pain on my back didn't go unnoticed. Wincing from the pain... I heard movements heading towards my fallen state.
"Ouch! That must've hurt. Viggo would be pissed if he knew about this recent escapes."
I swear I hate this guys attitude, he's Alfons, Viggo's upcoming right hand Beta and Natalia's mate...if there's someone I hate guarding me then it's gotta be him. He never lets me out of his sight. I don't give a damn, but he really is getting into my nerves... not in a bad way but in an annoying way....that is.
"I'm sure you wouldn't be too kind on telling him."
I answered looking straight at him....wearing my plain jane expression. Geez! atleast his modest enough when he shifted back in his human form. He just have this grin on his face, that makes me wanna rip it off... if only I could.
"Well... we could make this easier for the both of us, why don't you just go back inside, and get the rest that you need while I do my job on keeping eye on you."
"I'll go back inside when I want to."
He wanted to argue with me, that was obvious, but what else can he do. I'm not to obey from any of them. I'll do what I want and what I want is to feel the coldness that envelops the whole forestland. Even just for today.... even just for today.
"I'll give you an hour, then you'll go back inside."
Walking pass him, I got the better view of the forest and it dawned on me how much I was missing being locked up in my room for this past weeks. This place never fails to amaze me.
An hour went by and I had to go back inside, Alfons was nowhere to be seen, but I know he's watching.... any movement I make, he knows....he's a wolf after all. I was walking back to the manor when I noticed abrupt movements following me from behind... I thought it was just Alfons, but when a boisterous and furious growl filled my senses, it dawned on me that it wasn't him. It all happened too fast, turning my head behind where the nasty growl came from a monatrous wolf was jumping above me... ready to pounce... everything was in slow motion... the wolf mid-air and ready to pounce.....the frozen leaves falling from the tree branches....... my breathing caught up...... and a wolf, probably Alfons who shifted back in his wolf form blocking me from the monstrous wolf's attack. It was like I could see everything but in a different and unusual way... things were going so fast... but then every movement was just there.... presented in front of me. One thing led to another, they were both on the ground.... both growling with their sharpest of canines at sight, Shit! there are wolves in front of me, no one was making a move yet.... but I could see that glint in their eyes.... they were ready to kill. The other wolf advanced and pounced at Alfons... he took that blow, but then gave some of his own.... earning an agonizing cry from the other wolf. They were at each other, receiving scratches...and cuts from the other, blood visible on their bodies. I didn't know when the duel was gonna end, but I knew it wasn't any time soon. They were both in a bad state, but despite the blood gushing out of their wounded bodies...spilling on the white snow, they still fought with vigor and might. Alfons bounded on the enemy, a growl of agony once filled the forest followed by the wolf's soft sound of death. Alfons howled, I didn't know for what reason... but then minutes later wolves were one-by-one appearing on the sight. One of the wolves stepped forward... for what I could remember from her form, it was Natalia... she howled upon seeing his mates condition.
