The Shining hope

Chapter one

Deathkit awoke to the smell of tansy and juniper and the yowled of Runningpetal and his mother trying to save another kit's life. His eye widened as he saw the small blur of fur lying not too far away in a small soft nest full of feathers. The small kit was Birdkit of Ashfangs litter. The small lump was the runt of the litter but she was always the most kind of them all. He stood up quickly and rushed toward Firestorm with such speed.

"Her hearts slowing! Hurry Firestorm," Runningpetal yowled rushing to find the tansy that was stuck under one of the stones.

"Deathkit best you don't watch," Snapsnow said wrapping her long tail around him.

"But I wanna help Snapsnow!" Deathkit said staring at Birdkit's lump. 

"Well you can help by comin' with me," Snapsnow said trying to pick up Deathkit by the scruff. She nearly caught his fur but he jumped out and raced back toward the little dying kit. As he raced to her he quickly grabbed a juniper berry and dropped by her nest.

"Come on Birdkit eat this please!" he cried nudging her shoulder. She didn't move. 

"Please!" He begged again. Firestorm and Runningpetal stood in silence. Deathkit's eyes were starting to fill with pain. But he didn't give up and shoved the juniper berries into poor Birdkit. 

"Deathkit it's too late," Firestorm sighed put her paw around Deathkit who's tears were dropping down his cheeks. Outside the den the yowling sounds of Ashfang struggling to get into the den.

"Let me in I want to see my kit!" Ashfang said pouncing over them like a dark shadow. She raced to her kit and pushed Deathkit out of the way.

"Oh no no no!" She yowled touching her kit's nose. She rose from her almost limp kit and growled at Deathkit. 

"This is your fault! We should get rid of you," Ashfang yowled nearly ready to attack Deathkit.

"Enough Ashfang! It's not his fault for your kit's death I told you not to let them outside the camp!" Runningpetal said running in front of Firestorm and Deathkit. 

"Yes it..," Birdkit coughed harshly. Ash fang rushed to her kit's side. Bird kit coughed and coughed then spewed out a few death berries. Birdkit opened her eyes and breathed.

"Birdkit!" Ashfang said licking her kit greedily. 

"Ma..ma?" She said peering at her mother then she looked toward Deathkit weakly.

"Thank you Deathkit," She said horsly and showed a small smile. Deathkit smiled back happy to see she hadn't gone to Starclan just yet. He came closer to her and sat right next to her. 

"A sight for my old eyes!" Snapsnow said to the warriors. 

I did it I actually did it! Death kit thought in relief. 

"You're a hero Deathkit," Firestorm said gently, her Flaming orange eyes started at Deathkit.

"Im sorry Deathkit I now see you aren't much of an omen as I thought," Ash fang said, grumpily. She walked out leaving them in. 

Maybe one day they'll all accept me.
