Chapter 2: The Tunnel

When they got to the White House, they tried to decide who would go in first to meet the president and after a few minutes, they decided to let Max go first. He walked in and saw that it was Kaegan, one of his friends from when the four of them were in highschool, so he darted out of the room without startling Kaegan. When he got back outside he was panting like he had seen the most terrifying thing imaginable.

They all stood there staring at him with a questionable look on their faces, "What happened to you?" asked Nathan as he slowly made his way to the door. "Don't go in there!" yelled Max, and they all slowly moved away. Steven asked, "What's in there dude?" "You're never going to believe who's president." Max replied softly, then Nathan and Steven face-palmed and started laughing. "Wait what's going on?" asked Bradey who had no idea what just happened, "Its Kaegan!" yelled Max as he got up and walked slowly back toward the door.

Nathan and Steven walked over to the door and went in so Bradey and Max followed. "Hey guys! Long time no see!" yelled Kaegan throwing his arms up. "How have you been?" Nathan asked as he looked back to see if Bradey and Max actually followed. "Thats not important, what is important is what's been going on with the worldwide earthquakes!" Kaegan continued, "Have you guys ever read anything on Greek Mythology?" Then Max ran over yelling, "That was one of my favorite classes in junior high!"

They all stared at Max like he was insane, and he possibly was but none of them really cared because they all were, thats what made them such good friends. "Well, we have been finding holes that just appear in the ground and the same creatures have been crawling out and attacking. Luckily we've been able to hold them back but it's starting to get difficult. We need you four to go down into one of the entrances and find the source of all this and put a stop to it ASAP!"

"Sorry can you repeat that I wasn't listening." came Bradey's voice from the back of the room, he had all of his stuff spread out on the floor and was rummaging through it all. Then Max yelled, "Dang it Bradey! Why don't you ever listen?" Then they looked back at Kaegan who was sitting at his desk laughing hysterically. "You guys will never change!" he managed to say breathlessly.

Nathan and Steven both looked at eachother disappointedly as Max and Kaegan laughed at Bradey, "Can we get to work now?" Nathan asked sarcastically. "Okay, okay." Kaegan replied as he slid open a secret compartment in his desk revealing a keypad and as he went to typed in the code, and Steven asked, "So whats the code dude?" "It's something only I would ever even guess and nobody else knows!" Kaegan replied angrily. "Is it 7900?" Nathan asked with a smirk on his face and Kaegan snapped his head back looking toward the keypad and put the code in.

As the wall slowly slid open, it revealed an elevator, "I didn't know this place had more floors on top! How do you guys do that?" asked Bradey. Everyone looked at him like he was stupid and Max reached over and smacked Bradey, "It goes down idiot!" Max yelled. "Everybody just shut up and get in!" Nathan yelled at them. They all squeezed in and as the elevator went down Steven turned around, "What are you doing?" Kaegan asked. "Well usually if you have an elevator like this it opens in the back right?" Steven replied, "Not this one sorry." Kaegan said as the door opened.

There was a room about the size of the average classroom lined with titanium alloy walls and it had a small table in middle covered in maps. They all walked over to the table and the maps had little red circles all over them, "These circles are where the holes have appeared so far, the only connections we've made so far is the size is always the same. The positions don't make any sense! They aren't trying to cause a cave-in, they aren't going into buildings, and there aren't any near important places!

Max looked down at the maps and said, "Maybe it's a trick." "I think you're right Max! If they draw our attention and soldiers away from important places, they'll have a much easier time taking over!" Nathan said looking closer at the maps. The areas circled on the map were mostly along the edges of small towns, or big cities or even just in the middle of nowhere but none anywhere near important places.

As they were talking, there was a slight shake coming from below, "We need to hurry up before the whole planet shakes out of orbit!" Yelled Kaegan, and just as he did the floor caved in. He fell into a raging underground river and disappeared. Nathan and Bradey barely caught the edge and hung there helpless, "Hey guys! A little help over here! We have too much crap!" Nathan yelled. As Max and Steven helped them up, Steven noticed a small ray of light, "Hey, I think if I get a grappling hook through there I can fit!" He then pulled out his best grappling hook and shot straight out and up. When he got outside, he noticed all that was left of the white house was a pile of rubble.

Steven jumped back down and Nathan quickly asked, "How is everything up there?" After a short pause Steven said with a sigh, "The white house is down and there were no survivors that I could see." "I don't think Kaegan is going to be able to survive that." Max said and another long pause followed. "We better not waste any time then, lets find out the best place to get in and lets just get this over with, I've been through enough death of the people who are important to me in my life." Nathan said grimly. "Well I'm a genius so I say we start here." Max said looking down the newly formed hole. "NO WAY!" Bradey screamed sarcasticly at the top of his lungs and a long ominous echo followed.

Suddenly there was another small rumbling and a group of giant moles sprang out of the ground and walls. They had helmets with lights and their noses were long and pointed like a drill which helped them dig. They stood there for a few seconds just staring questioningly at them. The four agents slowly pulled out their weapons and in one, swift move, Nathan charged at the moles screaming. "What are you doing?" Max yelled at Nathan. As Nathan was running, a mole came out from under him, throwing him across the cavern. He was dazed and confused from hitting his head.

On one side of him was another mole charging at him with its nose pointed straight at his head. As Nathan looked up, he flinched and suddenly the mole had disappeared. He slowly looked up to find it laying on the ground in two pieces and Max's hand was held out to him,"Are you alright?" Max asked as he effortlessly pulled Nathan to his feet, "I'll be fine, lets clean this place out, we need to hurry." Nathan replied grasping his head in pain.

The large group of moles had all disappeared underground. Then, all at once ten of them burst out of the ground and started to attack. Bradey quickly slid down toward two that were charging straight for Max and hit one in the side of the head then pulled off his backpack and put it in front of him forcing the mole's nose into the input and when it stopped a rocket popped out the back. Bradey kicked the mole back and loaded his rocket launcher and shot it, then he looked back over and the same mole he had hit before was charging back at him, so he swung Sledge and uppercut it. The mole was thrown across the room and slammed into the wall across the cavern.

As Nathan and Max stood there talking, a mole tackled Max and another ran toward Nathan so he pulled out his scythes and stabbed Hate into the moles head. He then noticed another mole crawling up toward Steven so he pulled out one of his pistols and shot it. Just as he thought he could rest, he noticed something move just out of his view so he quickly turned and threw Cold at the figure and it stabbed straight into its neck. As he pulled Cold and Hate out of the two moles, he noticed that Max was stuck on the floor pinned by a mole but he was to weak and in too much pain to do anything so with his last little bit of strength he yelled to Steven, "Steven help Max he's pinned!"

Steven, who was still at the top of the slope with his sniper, quickly looked over toward Max and shot the mole through the head and Max heaved it off of himself. Suddenly there was a faint noise coming from behind Steven, so he turned around and just as he did a mole bursted through the wall and Steven stabbed it in the heart and threw it over himself down to the cavern.

As Max heaved the mole off of himself, he noticed two more coming toward him so he tried to jump to his feet as quickly as he could. He hadn't gotten up fast enough and one of the moles tackled him back to the ground and pinned him down, he noticed a slight bump moving in the ground and it was coming right for him. He quickly rolled over and pushed the mole away, just as he did the mole digging underground popped out and stabbed straight through the first moles head. Max climbed to his feet and dusted himself off and noticed the other three had also just finished killing some of the moles.
