The world was strange.
Very strange.
Society ran off of trade and kingdoms. Life moved slowly and peacefully, no immediate danger plaguing the world and terrorizing its inhabitants. There was much to be explored, discovered, to be sure......and yet, the Earth seemed to revolve contentedly. The planet seemed small and already full of enough to keep a person busy for the rest of their lives.
There was no need for adventure, excitement.
That was reserved for bounty hunters and pirates.
The ones who helped to shape the still-society.
The rest was left up for stories.
Stories.
Tales that were passed down from generation to generation.
Anecdotes that changed over time and still remained the same.
Rumors of mystical creatures or brave heroes in times of old circulated like reverent whispers.
After all, it was all nonsense. Stories like this were frowned upon by the educated and higher classes, as no such proof could be displayed to show that such events or figureheads really existed in the world. Legends like these were meant for the smaller ones before bed, or to put the elderly at ease with a reminder of their old memories. Some people, like soldiers and guards, would even enforce the unofficial policy of silencing such blasphemous fables in public. It became a private thing to share these wondrous stories, imagination and tradition sticking around to keep the chain of mirth and hope going. Why let someone else hear you buying into the fairy tales like a child?
For some, anyway, it wasn't just a child's nighttime story.
And that could also be traced back to the desire of keeping such precious cultural narratives going.
The main reason, aside from the people wanting to keep their fairy tales of old alive, had to do with the gallivanting pirates that ruled the waters surrounding each respective nation and land.
These marauders would come to port with new tales or spins on old stories, along with factual accounts of their own adventures. Pirates were regarded cautiously in society, of course. They were dangerous, and would loot trade ships or even start wars of both land and sea. Any buccaneer was a wanted criminal by most kingdoms, but there were few brave enough to capture them.
That, and their tales drew people in.
Recounted stories of bested beasts and conquered evils fascinated those who would listen. Everything a pirate who was willing to talk over food a drink described was like a song, singing a ballad of woe and beauty of the happenings at sea. Natural stories of pillaged ships or defeated officials of various kingdoms were also appreciated as tales themselves, as these fearsome marauders sort of served as their newsletters from around the world.
The sea was where everything seemed to happen. The waters were mysterious, possibly filled with the history of different adventures and opportunities for the future. Pirates seemed to be on top of the world, infamous for their deeds and well-known by the legends that followed their fleeting shadows on the shore. Indeed, the world was a strange place, where the people were ruled by the various royal families of their nations, but their true hearts were led by the wonder of the tales told and untold.
After all, recent rumors of sighted merfolk and mysterious creatures of the ocean were enough to attract anyone towards a pirate's hearty aura of wary mirth and easygoing nature.
And that is where the building of this scene will end.
There is much to be told, to be relayed, about the people on this Earth and what miracles their single souls bear alone. There is a story for every person, for every event. There is more than one tale worth telling.
But, as it turns out, there's only one solemn story worth knowing and keeping.
There's only one legend that will live to the ends of time, opening doors that were previously closed and changing the lives of those in this peaceful world.
And that is one strong tale of wonder that everyone knows.
It's time for the true story of hope, friendship, victorious triumph between good and evil, tragedy, happiness, battles of wit, tests of strength, challenges of the mind, hardships of the world, anger, pain, despair, and love.....to begin.
Listen to it, if you must.
Read it, if you dare.
Believe in it, if you can hope.
Alright, the prologue is out.
Let's hope for the best.

I'm still shaping up how this particular tale will end, but I pray you all stick around long enough to see it through!
I hope you enjoy!
