chapter twenty
aug. 5, 2013

(this chapter starts off at 1:19:15 age of ultron setting with my characters and such but just as a visual image in your head while you read :) love you guys)

"we drop steve off at the lab and you," clint looks back at me,"you go with him. natasha and i are staying up here til further notice, we have no idea what ultron has in store."

i look over at steve and nod back at barton. we haven't said a word to each other since he confessed putting me in that hellhole that all the agents like to glorify as a training unit. don't worry, i'm definitely not passive aggressive.

"yes, sir," i confirm my understanding and get ready for drop off by the ending of the quinjet.

"hey, mikaelson, don't do anything stupid. remember your training," natasha called out.

hearing mikaelson gave me a surge of energy, it was like smelling my father's lab when i used to walk in. it was a sense of reminiscing but i couldn't decide whether or not i enjoyed hearing my father's name.

"hey, romanoff, you look really good today," i wink back at her and she rolls her eyes playfully.

"thanks, ana. you know, green and black? sexy."

steve's body stiffened and i chuckled as natasha and i playfully and platonically flirted in front of him.

"all right, hate to break up anatasha over there but drop off in three," i look at steve and he walks over to where i'm standing,"two," the back began opening and as it flattens out, clint says,"one."

i jump, as does steve, and we both land on the roof of a building.

"nat, stay close," i say into the comms, pressing onto the communication device in my ear.

"it'll take two minutes tops," steve mutters to the communications, they give us a confirmation signal.

and like the wind, steve sprinted towards the laboratory where the cradle was and i did as well, flying would only create unwanted attention.

we run into the lab and see an entire team of scientists and associates on the floors, laying with adhesions and dried blood.

"she's alive," i point to the end of the room, her heartbeat was faint but it was beating, as for everyone else? i can only hope their death was quick and not painful.

i look around to see if i can figure out where ultron could have gone. neither the twins, nor ultron nor the cradle was here. i can feel the twins energy, every bone in my body knew where they were and how to get to them.

i can't leave steve.

"dr. cho!" steve called out while running towards her. the connection to the energy grew weaker the more i hesitated.

steve grabbed a towel and applied pressure to her wounds, i walked closer to them, grabbing a bottle of iodine off the counter.

"ultron, he's uploading himself up to the body," she says through her labored breath.

i kneel besides her, taking the towel from steve's hand and pouring iodine on it. he reapplies it and she winces at the pain.

"where, doctor?" i ask, she gives me a tired look and shakes her head. she doesn't know.

steve began to stand up before she tugged at his hand.

"listen," she looked at us both before saying,"the real power is in the cradle. the gem," she lets out another hard labored breath and looked at me,"it's power is uncontainable. you can't blow it up, you have to get it to stark."
