"Oh my GOD!" Taking a pause between each word, Hilary turned to look at you. "I know this is really, REALLY bad timing but, I TOLD YOU SO!" This made you laugh, even if it was just a small and quiet one, it lifted your spirits slightly.
"I know you did. You were right." You say in a still small but slightly less upset voice, looking up at your best friend of twenty years. She smiles slowly at you and slowly stokes your hair.
"I'm always right." She says in a soft tone.
"Wait. So let me get this straight, you knew that she was my soulmate?" Tony had a look of confusion on his face along with all of the other emotions. He's gone through a lot of those tonight.
"She had a feeling but I never believed her. But I guess she was right, she always is." You say softly, looking over to your newly found soulmate.
His chocolate brown eyes were full of care, you weren't used to seeing that from anyone except for Hilary. It scared you. You didn't want to get attached and then have him not accept you. You hadn't noticed that you had been staring off or that Tony and Hilary were calling your name until Tony put his hand on your shoulder, making you jump back and yell as reflex.
"Hey, I'm sorry, I'm not going to hurt you, I swear." He looked guilty and worried once again the emotion flashed across his face, but by that time you were halfway across the large room, almost against the wall parallel to the bed. You were breathing heavily again, the earlier events flashing across your vision for what seemed like the hundredth time that evening.
Hilary gave Tony a look, signalling him to go to you, to try and calm you down. He obeyed and slowly approached you. Once he got to you, you slowly released the tension you had gained and let him hold you. You almost collapsed into his arms, burying your face into the crook of his neck.
"Shhhh. It's okay. You're okay. I won't let anyone hurt you, especially not myself, I promise you." He whispered into your ear, trying to calm you down. Eventually you did and Tony got up, carrying you to lay down on the bed with you still in his arms.
You tried your best to keep your eyes open but exhaustion kicked in, making it very hard. You eventually gave in, falling asleep in Tony's arms for the first time, knowing deep down that it wouldn't be the last.
~Tony's POV~
I can't believe I found her, after all this time. She's so beautiful. How could anybody hurt her the way they have, it's disgusting!
I look down at my soulmate, my princess, and realize that she has fallen asleep. I take a moment to admire her beautiful face, before looking over at her friend.
"Hilary, right?" She nods. "So how long have you known each other?" I keep my voice quiet enough to not wake up my sleeping soulmate.
"Since kindergarten, so about 20 years. We've been through everything together, thick and thin. I swear to God if you hurt her, I'll kill you." She explains quietly, but the look she was giving me said it all.
"I could never imagine hurting someone who's already been hurt so badly. I promise you I'll protect her with everything I have and all that I am." I swore. Hilary looked me in the eye for a speck of doubt but she couldn't find any. "What should we do with her, I mean she can stay here but I'm not sure what she would rather do?"
"I don't want to move her but she also wouldn't want to wake up in bed with a man or alone after what just happened." Hilary looked contemplative, while I was coming up with an idea.
"Well if you don't want to move her she could always sheep here and I can sleep in a spare room. And if she wouldn't want to wake up alone you could stay with her, if you're comfortable with that?" I was careful with my words, not wanting to seem like I was forcing anyone to sleep in my bed.
She thought for a second before saying, "Sounds good. I'll have to run to my car for our changes of clothes though, do you think you can stay with her until I get back?"
"Of course, I'll have happy escort you to your car, who knows that man could've had friends and you can never be too careful. Jarvis, call Happy." I say, waiting for him to pick up.
"Hey Tony what's up, more cheese burgers?" He asks as he picks up the phone. He knows me so well except this time he was wrong.
"No Hap, can you escort someone to a car for me? She needs to grab something and after the events of tonight, I'm not taking any chances." I say, glancing at the patient best friend of my beautiful soulmate. 'My soulmate' it feels weird to think about her. She's so perfect and so broken. I'm not sure how anyone can be a horrible enough person to hurt someone like that.
"Yeah sure, are you in your room?" Happy asked, pulling me out of my head.
"Yep see you soon Hap. Jarvis hang up." I say looking down at my soulmates sleeping body. 'Y/n Y/l/n' what an amazing name for an amazing person. I barely know anything about this woman, yet I feel like I've known her my whole life. It's crazy how this world works.
When Hilary came back with her clothes, I told her where she could go if she needed anything and to just ask Jarvis for anything non emergent. I left the room, walking down the hall to the guest room to sleep, dreaming about how my new life will go with my perfect soulmate.
