"Are you excited to ride in the facilities for the first time?" I asked Delaney. Following the myriad of events that kicked off the semester yesterday, we decided today would be our only real day to relax. Today was Monday, and school was kicking back in Wednesday. With the elite assessment tomorrow, I needed headspace readjustment, so today we were going to just have some kicks with the horses and enjoy ourselves. I had yet to see Drew, but he had decided to be perfect once more and insisted that I take a girls' day with them, and that we would catch up tomorrow.
"I still can't believe that I'm here" she said, shaking her head. Who could blame her? I still felt like everything was all a dream. Delaney had been insistent on dressing us to impress today, with her wearing a light purple sweater, tan breeches, and a navy quilted vest. Was I really one of the only people there who would have shown up in a hoodie and jeans given the option? She'd dressed me in green breeches, a dark red sweater with brown leathery elbow patches, and my white quilted vest, so we weren't matching, but she definitely had decided on a theme for us. We finally made our way to the stables to find the rest of the girls already there.
"What took you two so long?" Izzy asked pointedly, raising an eyebrow. I tilted my head towards Delaney who gasped with mock offense.
"Pay no mind to her Delaney, we have people who would show up in a hunt coat or rat-catcher every day if it were possible" Avery laughed gently, patting my shoulder. I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Who is ready?" we heard the soft French accent behind us. We turned to find the petite Eva dressed in rust colored breeches, a white-button down shirt, and a grey wool hunt coat. Her tall brown-topped field boots were buffed and polished to perfection.
"Case in point" Avery laughed. Eva's brow furrowed at first, and then put two and two together, and laughed.
"Ah, yes" She laughed. "Truth be told, this is a bit formal, even for Europe. However, the wool is helpful in keeping warm on days like today". See, that was a practical point that I could appreciate. We tacked up our horses, and then went to meet Eva's horse.
He was a gorgeous seal-brown thoroughbred. He looked a little on the dainty side hitting just at 16 hh, but he definitely could hold his own based on the photo in her room. He was so mellow that it was almost unbelievable.
