Fitz's POV
Dex arrived late; the triplets hid some ripplepuffs he was bringing. He was the second last to arrive, Wylie and Maruca being the final ones here. Of course, as soon as they stepped in the door, Biana asked Wylie what his favorite color was, which was orange.
She gave me a triumphant smirk. "I knew you were wrong."
I rolled my eyes at her and walked over to Dex. "How are you?"
"Tired," he admitted. "From chasing Lex and Rex around while Bex was on my back. ...And from staying up late."
I brushed my fingers over the bags under his eyes and frowned. "Why were you staying up? You should be getting sleep. You need it."
"I know. Just...stuff. Being a Technopath is great and all, but sometimes my mind has ideas that I just can't let go of. So I make blueprints for them, sometimes begin to build...and before I know it, it's midnight." he laced his fingers through mine. "But don't worry. I'm fine."
I leaned forward and my lips met his. We kissed for at least 30 seconds before Keefe shouted, "Get a room!"
We broke apart and Dex blushed.
"Oh, let them be, Keefe. They were just following the rules." Sophie pointed to something above our heads.
I looked up. There was a plant with small green leaves and white balls hanging from the high ceiling.
"What is it?" Dex asked.
"Mistletoe." Sophie smirked. "Whichever two people are under it are supposed to kiss. It's a Christmas law."
"Well then," I said, pressing my nose against Dex's. "We better listen to the law."
"I love you," he said.
I paused. We had never said "I love you" before, but it had always been true. "I love you too."
Marella's POV
"What do we put on the tree?" I asked Sophie.
"Lights, ribbon, a star, I would say ornaments but we don't have any to use...sometimes popcorn, but you guys wouldn't know what that is...and yeah, I think that's it," she answered.
Wylie snapped his fingers and millions of tiny lights appeared around the tree. He waved his hands and something that looked like bright mist took the form of a star and floated to the top of it.
"Now we just need ribbon!" Biana clapped her hands excitedly. "I have lots to choose from! Help me pick out which one is most Christmas-y." she grabbed Sophie's hand and raced upstairs.
I grinned and flopped down on a couch between Linh and Fitz. "We'll be lucky if Biana doesn't decide the ribbon looks good on Sophie and makes a headband out of it."
"She did that once," Maruca said.
Keefe laughed. "I remember that! Wonderboy here looked rather handsome."
"Be quiet, she made you one too," Fitz shot back.
Keefe shrugged. "I look good in anything."
Tam rolled his eyes. "I can't believe I'm dating this mess."
"Got one!" Biana called.
"Already?" I asked.
"It wasn't hard," Sophie said. "Red and green are Christmas colors, and she only had one red and green ribbon."
After that, we sat around the tree and shared more funny stories, until Sophie showed us how to make hot chocolate, a human thing, which was delicious.
