Tucker sighed audibly, as he went over the case file in his hand once again. He had been working at the DA's office for almost three years now, but cases like this still caused a sting in a heart.
A man was accused of abusing, and then eventually murdering his wife. Perks of being rich, he had hired a team of lawyers to protect him, and they were trying to spin the case. Making it seem like he was the victim and acted in self defense.
Tucker had been working on the case for hours, preparing his game plan for the hearing next week. There was no way he was going to let this man go free. In his entire career, he had not lost a single case, and he was going to prove that he was best goddamn prosecutor this city had ever seen.
A knock on his office's door broke him out of his trance. If his secretary didn't buzz him to let him know who it was, then it was either her, or Dan. He smirked to himself, knowing he was right when Dan walked in.
"How was the interview?" Tucker asked. Dan rolled his eyes as he sat down on the chair in front of his best friend.
"Don't ask." Dan replied.
"That bad?" Tucker raised a brow.
"I don't know," Dan sighed, "It was going great, actually, I really thought they were interested in having me."
"What happened then?"
"They asked about you," Dan shrugged, "They tried to slide it in, make it not seem suspicious but come on, I'm a lawyer. I know when someone's playing me. Hiring me was probably a stepping stone in getting you."
"Dan, you're an amazing lawyer," Tucker shook his head, "Don't downplay your achievements like this."
"I know I am," Dan gave Tucker a reassuring smile, "But everyone knows what you're worth, especially since the Mackenzie case. You have an impeccable record and it makes sense why all the firms are after you."
"Well," Tucker leaned back on his chair, "It's all for nothing because there's no way in hell I'm ever going to sell my soul to corporate law."
"I know," Dan nodded, "I don't know what I was thinking interviewing for them either. I'm already right where I'm supposed to be."
"Yeah and—" Tucker looked at the clock on the wall, almost jumping from his chair, "Oh shit, I'm late!"
"Hot date?" Dan laughed.
"Something like that." Tucker smirked, collecting his things as fast as he could.
"Is it who you met last month?" Dan asked, "What is it? Your third date?"
"I think it might be getting serious." Tucker shrugged.
"Yeah, because all great love stories start by going for the same packet of sausages at the grocery store," Dan chuckled, "Was it love at the first meat, Tuck baby?"
"You're literally dating your best friend's sister," Tucker huffed, "There's nothing more cliché than that."
"In my defense, I'm not just dating her. I'm marrying her."
"If that's your defense then I'm sorry to say but baby your law degree is wasted." Tucker smirked.
Dan laughed, throwing a crumpled piece of paper at Tucker as the man rushed out of his office, already super late for his date.

"I mean.. My parents know that I'm bi but I've only ever been in two serious relationships and both were with women. So, they've never met any boyfriend of mine," Tucker's date, Divij, said, "They say they're cool with it but I know they still have reservations about it despite the fact that I came out to them years ago."
