Okay so @EmmaRae17 just commented on chapter 1 that Sammi in the beginning was like Veronica from Heathers when she approached the Queens, who are basically the Heathers and now I can't believe how I missed that -
So if you know Heathers maybe go back and read it, you'll see it, I can't believe I accidentally did that! Lol enjoy the new chapter
Jake had just been coming back from delivering the attendance from the substitute to the main office. But when he noticed Sammi talking to her friend in the hallway and he thought he heard his name, he stopped to listen in to the conversation. Eavesdropping should be find if they're talking about you... right?
"I have only two days left," Sammi was saying nervously to Leah. They were technically in Study Hall, but... one of them was "filling up their water battle" and the other was "using the restroom."
"He literally asked to go with you to the school dance," Leah said with a raised eyebrow. "And yesterday, he was the one who asked you about hanging out again."
...They didn't like, suspect that he liked her, and were planning on how she should tell him they're just friends, right?
"Yeah, but that could all just be because I'm the only person he really talks to."
"Sammi, you're waaay overthinking this. You only have two days left," Leah reminded her.
"Three days," Angela had said to Sammi. Three days for what? What was the whole countdown for?
"So either he likes you by this point, or he doesn't. Either you succeeded or didn't. It's literally over already. Kiss him and find out if you won the challenge."
WHAT?!
Sammi bit her lip. "I just feel like it's really fast. I've been going really fast on purpose, obviously, but... if I kiss him now, just to see if I've 'proved myself' to the Queens, I might ruin chances at like... a real relationship... which would come from much longer time..."
Prove herself to the Queens? He was beginning to draw conclusions he didn't like.
But... she wanted a real relationship with him?
This was confusing. He was already very confused by this conversation and he wasn't sure how to take it.
Leah raised an eyebrow. "Do you want a real relationship with him?" She leaned against the wall. "I mean... isn't this all fake in the first place?"
"That's my problem Leah," Sammi complained.
"You actually like him now?"
Sammi nodded and sighed. "How do you think he convinced me to go by Sammi again?"
"I mean, I was proud of you for finding something you cared about more than being popular." Leah pursed her lips.
Jake had gathered some very vital information about his relationship with Sammi:
1. It was fake - at least originally.
2. Sammi was trying to use him for something, and it had something to do with popularity and the Queens.
3. Sammi was "proving herself" for something, and it included him.
4. Sammi only had a number of days to do... something included in a relationship with him.
5. Sammi actually liked him!
He didn't know how to feel about any of that.
"I... I don't mean that you're not more important to me than being popular," Sammi said, realizing that Leah had just implied. "I just... I need him to like me. I need him to kiss me in the next two days."
