One day I got a letter in my mailbox, which was unusual since I lived practically in the middle of nowhere. I opened it and nearly fainted right then and there. It was a letter from Hope's Peak Highschool. The Hope's Peak Highschool. They wanted me to come under the title "ultimate animal trainer". Of course I accepted, but I still never understood why they would choose me just because I was kind of good with animals. I almost considered not going.
And, in hindsight, I should've declined.
I really should've declined.
----
After who knows how long I woke up. My head still hurt, but it was a dull kind of pain rather than the sharp, intense hurt I was feeling before. I attempted to sit up but was stopped by a hand on my shoulder. "Hey now, you need to rest. You really hurt yourself according to those two girls." I looked to where the voice was coming from and saw a strong looking boy wearing a white coat, with bright red, spiky hair.
"U-uh.. who are you..?" I said, ignoring him as I sat up, touching my head only to realize it had been bandaged. The boy sighed. "My name is Azriel Silva, the ultimate medic, and your concussion is never going to get better if you don't listen."
"I'll be okay.." I said, looking around. I was still in the cafeteria, everyone had scattered and were in groups of two or three talking to each other. "HEY EVERYONE, ERWIN'S AWAKE!" A voice I recognized as belonging to that creepy Alex kid called across the cafeteria. Before I knew it, everyone was looking at me, and some people started moving toward me. "Are you serious..." I complained under my breath.
As people began to come toward me, a girl with short brown hair, round golden glasses, and a pale pink sweater embroidered with plants was the first to speak. "You still don't know most of our names, right?" She said, to which I nodded. "My name is Lowella Antoine, ultimate biologist." She looked around at the others. "It would be polite for the rest of you to introduce yourselves as well, I think." She said rather coldly, before stepping back to better blend in with everyone else.
After a few unbearable seconds of silence, someone finally did as she asked. It was a boy with reddish-purple hair tied back in a messy ponytail. He wore a brown jacket that looked worse-for-wear, and his skin was tan and scarred. "Well, my name's James Griffith, ultimate archer."
The awkward introductions continued as everyone went around and introduced themselves, minus Lowella, Marina, Kat, Alex, and Azriel of course.
Linette Wolfe, the ultimate ballerina, a girl with blonde hair tied up in a neat bun. She wore a puffy blue skirt and a loose-fitting black jacket. She looked lean, but strong. Despite her elegant manor and kind personality, she could probably beat me in a fight.
Basil Saratt, the ultimate blacksmith, a muscled boy with greasy, dark blue hair that was slicked back. He was covered with scars that looked like they were from burns. He wore a white tank-top and ripped jeans. His words were kind when he introduced himself, but his voice and appearance couldn't help but make me intimidated by him.
Cynthia Hart, the ultimate confectioner, a small girl with red, curly hair. Her face was dotted with freckles and she had clear blue eyes. She wore a pink t-shirt with a white apron overtop of it, which had a heart embroidered onto the center the same color as her t-shirt. She also wore black and white striped leggings underneath a white miniskirt. She was bubbly and happy, reminded me a bit of Kat, but less energetic.
Aldritch Meyer, the ultimate geologist, a tall boy with straight, white hair with bangs that fell in between his eyes. He wore a gray suit. His demeanor was very cold, yet he seemed like the kind of guy who thought highly of himself.
Melanie Byrd, ultimate paranormalist. She freaked me out, she had straight black hair to her shoulders that nearly covered her eyes. She wore a black and white dress with white stockings. She gave off a really creepy vibe and wouldn't stop going on about spirits or something, weird.
Verity Strickland, ultimate sneak, he had gray hair that fell neatly in front of his face. He wore a dark green sweatshirt and sweatpants. A pretty plain looking guy, but he had a weird intense vibe about him.
Trina Estrada, ultimate roller skater. She was a tall girl with short, green hair tied up in a tight ponytail. She wore black leggings and a black tanktop with shoes that looked like they had wheels in them somehow. She wore a black bow in her hair. She had a really intense vibe about her too, but for a different reason. She seemed to me like the kind of person who would make breathing into some kind of competition.
The last to introduce themselves was Neptune Tetra, the ultimate astrologist. He was a frail, pale boy, kind of like me, with bright pink hair that stuck up in every direction. He wore a white jacket with a black shirt underneath that had a design on it that looked like a simplified version of saturn. He seemed very passionate and friendly.
The girl named Lowella from earlier stepped forward once again. "Is that everyone?" She looked around and no one said anything. "Good. Now we should really get back to figuring out why on earth we're here." Murmurs of agreement echoed around the room. Trina had already rushed over to the door of the cafeteria. She rattled the doorknob and her expression turned sour. "Dudes, we're locked in." She said, looking back at everyone.
"What do you mean locked in??" Aldritch said, stepping toward her to confirm for himself. He shoved Trina out of the way and rattled the doorknob. "She's... she's right." He said solemly. The room erupted into panic. Basil, Trina, Cynthia and Linette tried to break down the door. Verity, Lowella, Aldritch, and Azriel looked around for an alternate exit or clues. Marina was having a breakdown in the corner while Kat desperately tried to calm her down. Melanie just.. kind of stood there.
As I was taking in the chaos and thinking about which group to join or what I should do, Alex aproached me calmly, brushing a strand of hair out of his face.
"Hey, Erwin was it?" I turned to him and nodded. "So what do you think about all this?"
"Eh? I'm freaking scared, that's what I think. Who wouldn't be?"
"Yeah, I getcha, but I think this is kinda interesting if I'm honest with you." He said, his expression unreadable.
"What? How on earth is this interesting?"
"Oh, just seeing how everyone reacts to the panic of being in a situation like this, I mean. Call me crazy but I find it intriguing."
I think I will call you crazy, Alex.
I honestly had no idea how to respond to that, so I just looked the other way. Everyone was still panicking minus Lowella, who had moved to trying to catch everyone attention and was failing. Suddenly, the chaos was cut short by a high pitched voice yelling from the front.
"Ahem! AHEM! May I have your attention please?!"
I turned to look at who was talking along with everyone else only to be met with a shocking sight.
"Thank you, now, I'd like to welcome all you students to Hope's Peak Academy!"
Oh god, I think I've really lost it this time
Because I'm pretty sure that teddy bear just talked.
