Well, I'm back! Now that Ducktales has returned, I feel a new burst of energy, and I'm gonna try my best to push out more stories. Thought I would actually write a one-shot this time, as opposed to my multiple part format in the last two. Hope you all enjoy, and thanks for reading!
It was a beautiful day in Duckburg. The sun was shining, children were playing, and waves were gently rolling across the blue ocean. However, some were not as focused on the beautiful day as much as others.
"Game point, Duck. What are you and your girlfriend gonna do now?"
This comment made Dewey blush for a second, but he quickly replied:
"For the last time, Webby isn't my girlfriend. And I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna shut you guys down here, then we're gonna score five in a row. Game over. We win", Dewey replied, oozing with confidence.
"Oh yeah? Then how about you prove it", Garrett, Dewey's opponent, said back.
"Right now. Let's go".
Dewey checked the ball to Garrett. Dewey knew that if he and Webby were gonna pull this off, they'd need to play perfectly. So, in an attempt to get the ball back as fast as possible, Dewey made a quick stab at the ball. Garrett, who had been looking over to his teammate, was unprepared for this, and Dewey was able to gain possession.
Time to go to work, Dewey thought to himself.
Dewey quickly passed it over to Webby, who, for only playing basketball for a few weeks, was pretty darn good.
"Webs, take the screen", Dewey said. However, while he said this, Dewey had made sure to give Webby the secret signal, that being two held up fingers, to let her know that he was bluffing. Thinking Webby was going to drive to the hoop, Webby's defender took a step back, opening her up for a three, which she buried.
"Oh yeah! Nice shot Webs" Dewey said, giving his best friend a high five.
"Thanks", Webby replied, a big smile (and slight blush) plastered to her face.
"And with that shot, it's now a one point game. One more score, and the Adventure Duo take home the trophy", announced the commentator, who was none other than Huey.
C'mon. Just one more bucket, then we've got it. Just gotta get an open shot, Dewey thought to himself as Garrett checked the ball.
Dewey started the play by passing the ball to Webby, then running over to set a screen. However, Dewey actually intended to set a screen this time, and it was a beauty. Webby got by her defender and had an open lane to the hoop. That was until Garrett stepped in. Right as Webby was about to go up for the game tying layup, Garrett came out of nowhere, colliding with Webby midair and blocking her shot. Webby fell to the ground and landed awkwardly on her ankle, leaving her sprawled out on the ground injured.
"Webs!" Dewey yelled, running over and kneeling next to his best friend. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay, but I think I sprained my ankle".
"Oh man, I'll go get you some ice", Dewey said frantically, running over to a cooler.
As Dewey was shoveling ice into a bag, he couldn't help but be frustrated with Garrett. Why did this have to happen now, during the biggest game of the year! This was finally Dewey's chance to compete in the Duckburg Invitational, and he and Webby had torn through the competition. With her sheer strength and athleticism, paired with his several years of playing and high confidence, it had been a breeze getting to the championship. Now, just as they were about to win, of course Webby had to get hurt.
