Rosie's POV
The next couple of days went by just like any normal day at Redwood.
Everyone was adjusting surprisingly well to their new school, from the freshman to the kids who moved here from Sunset.
Today is Friday, and I couldn't be more excited! The cheer and baseball team called a meeting to discuss tryouts and how we were going to make our last season together the best one.
The true reason behind my excitement was because the first and last Friday's of the school year are reserved for one thing;
PARTIES!
My excitement was cut short as I fixed my attention back to the my restroom's mirror.
I model a pair of culotte style short shorts, fully aware that daddy absolutely won't agree, but Atlanta was the hottest it'd ever been all summer and I was only trying to keep cool.
I pair them with a light blue off-the-shoulder blouse and end up having to tuck it in because of how high the shorts come up around my waist.
I decide the wear my hair in an updo, parting and swooping the front section of my hair to one side, then I bring it all together to create one ponytail.
James POV
"Good morning!" My mom says as she watches me walk tiredly down the stairs rubbing both of my eyes.
"Good morning mom." I say in between yawns.
"Did you sleep well?" She continues to ask as I grab the orange juice carton out of the fridge.
"Yeah I guess I slept okay. How about you?" I reply, picking a cup from the off-white cabinets above the stove.
"Ehh, couldn't really sleep."
"Why?" I wonder out loud for a second but instantly regret asking.
My moms smile and eyes light up and grow big in excitement.
"Ahh ma no! please anything but-"
"Happy birthday to you!" She began singing as Michael came around the corner holding a cake with a "one" and "nine" spewing out of the top of it.
I stand there like an idiot trying to avoid any eye contact with the two as they sing happy birthday to me.
"Thank you, thank you." I say in hopes of dismissing them.
"What about me? Jamie promised he'd share his birthday with me this year."
"Great." I mouth to my mom as a crazy blonde haired monster enters the kitchen. I bend down and hold my arms out, knowing she would most likely come to me first.
As predicted, she runs over and leaps into my arms.
"Hey sport. You're not supposed to be up for another couple of hours." I say to her as she lays her head on my broad shoulder.
"I couldn't miss our birthday Jamie!" She proclaims in her squeaky three and a half year old voice.
"Well if anyone can get your brother in a celebratory mood on his birthday it's you sweetie." My mom says while giggling.
"OUR birthday mommy." Nancy replies correcting our mom.
Everyone laughs at the quick and sassy remarks of my baby sister for the rest of the morning, and before leaving for school we all share a slice of my cake.
**I'd gotten word earlier in the week about a meeting tonight for the team, and one of the twin sisters, Mia? I think, was the most excited about this thing.
She made it her business to remind me every single day to "be there or be square" whatever that meant, and she asked me at least three times at lunch if I would still be able to make it or not.
I wish I knew the school well enough to take the long way to class in order to avoid another preppy "jAmEs, bE sUrE yOU dOn'T miSs tHe mEeTiNg!"
Don't get me wrong, she's a nice girl, but I just can't stand preppy.
The end of my third class was approaching in a couple of minutes, and I've been trying to get switched out of workshop but that blasted Ms.H was taking forever.
I was beginning to think the "H" in her name stands for hurry up.
Instead of showing up to class, I sat in the office every day this week and I didn't plan on letting up until they found a class to replace this one.
As I walk through the office doors for my routinely boycott, I'm greeted by a face I hadn't seen in that chair since Monday morning.
She had her hair different this time, it was all pinned up, exposing more of her beauty as if that was possible.
I never get tired of those pearls, they compliment her silky melanin skin so nicely.
She looked as beautiful as ever. I assume she must have been reading a book, because her head was down when as I approached the desk.
"Hey Rosie" I hear, just as I was about to say the same thing. Her head pops up, revealing the rest of her gorgeous face.
"Hey Curtis!" She replies as the biggest grin grows on her face.
I subtly roll my eyes, remembering the little inside jokes they have at the lunch table.
I don't know what it is, but I seriously hope Rosie isn't going with this guy.
"Hey man how are ya!" Curtis says to me. Clearly he was having a good morning.
"Hi." I can't help but reply in a dry tone.
"Rosie can you get me that class? Thanks." I say finally before walking away and taking my usual seat.
Something about her made me hate it when she talked to other guys. I guess one would say I get jealous, but how could you not when you've got a girl that looks like she belongs on a cover of a magazine, not to mention a kind heart and brains to back it up.
I've only known her for a few days but she has this infectious personality that draws me to her more and more after every encounter.
All I know is that I can't develop feelings. Not this time. Not again.
