James' Pov
"I don't know, I'm kind of diggin' the light blue" I try to persuade Rosie who is begging me to let her change her outfit before I take her on the surprise date I have planned.
"Five minutes? Pleaaassee?" she knows I can't resist puppy eyes.
"Fine." I give in but it cost her an ultimatum.
"After five minutes I don't care if you only have one sock on, I'm coming in to get you and we're leaving." she laughs, but I'm not joking.
She gets out of the car and I playfully smack her butt. She jolts and covers herself with both hands, looking back at me with shyness and innocence behind her grin.
I tuck my bottom lip behind my teeth and raise both eyebrows twice, insinuating that although I was kidding around, I actually wasn't.
I watch as she skips inside of the front door to her house, and the moment she steps inside I begin counting down the minutes until her expected return.
"1:53pm" I note to myself. "She has until 1:58pm."
Rosie has been talking nonstop about some animated film where two dogs fall in love and eat spaghetti. I'm personally a Marlon Brando film kind of guy myself, but at least I could brag about this kiddy thing to Nancy during dinner time.
1:55pm.
I considered being courteous and allowing her an extra fifteen seconds, but patience is for people who are okay with being late.
I couldn't stop my leg from bouncing as I stared down at the cheesy love note and necklace I had purchased for Rosie last week.
Tonight's the night that she will say yes to being mine.
I hope.
By 1:57pm I'm making my way to her front porch. To my pleasant surprise the door flings open and out walks the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.
"Man I was really hoping to embarrass you by carrying you out of there with one shoe." I say in a playful tone, my eyes scanning every inch of her from head to toe.
She responds back with her signature bubbly giggle, which is music to my ears.
I wrap my arms around her waist and lift her off of the porch and into the air.
She wraps her flimsy arms around my neck and our eyes lock as I spin her around.
She leans closer for a kiss, but I pull away just in time before she can.
I hadn't kissed Rosie in a few weeks because I wanted to show her that I don't need to be physical with her, so, I've been working extremely hard to wait until she says yes.
"Ready to go?" I can see she's flustered by me for changing the subject and not kissing her, but I was focusing on fighting the urge not to.
I put a hand out for her to hold, and chills shoot through my body as she slowly intertwines her fingers in mine.
I lead the way to the passenger door, opening it for future Mrs. Martin.
"Thank you." She says in that sweet voice of hers and I kiss the back of her hand before jumping in the car and pulling off.
"You're kidding." I say straight faced, challenging Rosie to prove herself.
"Jamie." She starts, looking me dead in the eyes.
Rosie and Nancy are the only two I'll allow to call me that.
"I'm not falling for your tricks again Rosie." I reply as I pick out the pickles that are wedged between my burger.
