Nick's pov

Life never gets better, huh? It's scary how everything in your life can go perfectly, then change in seconds to become your worst nightmare.

//

On Monday I started school again, which was fine. I didn't realise how much schoolwork I had missed. Especially maths. Great.
Jamie isn't that good at maths, when he tries to help me he somehow makes it even more confusing. I would have to take extra classes or something. I spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday trying to fix all my work, which I almost succeeded on. Stress made me work faster, though I'm sure nothing that I wrote made sense.

On Thursday, mom came home from the hospital. It finally felt normal again. Besides, her food was so much better than mine. I can't believe dad and I ate it for so long. She seemed happy too, which was all that really mattered.

The next day, Friday, after school, I went to Jamie's house. He showed me how to play some game on his xbox. I was shit at it. After his fourth win in a row I put my controller on the table and sat back, crossing my arms. He laughed at me, asking if I'm mad.
"I'll just watch you play, since I'm so shit."
"You're adorable, did you know?" He put his controller down and hugged me, kissing all over my face until I was smiling.
"Let's do something else, angel."
I love when he call me that. It makes me feel special.
"Like what?"
"You hungry?"
"I'm starving."
"Let's go eat then. Pizza?"
"Sure!"

//

"But I love Hawaii! Pineapple is amazing on pizza." We had been arguing about whether it's good or not for a while now, it wasn't the first time either. We have had this conversation every time we've had pizza together, which is a lot.
"I can't anymore. I'm breaking up with you. I can't date someone who likes pineapple on pizza." Jamie said.
"Jokes on you we aren't even dating."
"Okay, wanna be my boyfriend then?"
"Yes I do" I said, taking a huge bite of my pizza with extra pineapple on it.
Jamie shaked his head but couldn't stop himself from smiling.

We were walking home again. My hand in his. My boyfriend. I loved it so much, he was mine.
I stopped him from walking and he gave me a confused face.
"What?" I grabbed his face and kissed him.
"Nothing, you're just cute." Nick rolled his eyes and pulled my arm to keep walking.
"You know, you're one of those really gay bisexuals Jamie. Like I'd never believe you'd touch a boob if I didn't know you. Let alone have sex with a woman. Like you actually-"
"Oh PLEASE will you shut up." I said, getting embarrassed. Nick smirked but stayed quiet the rest of the walk home.

//

Waking up in his arms is the best thing in the world. I forgot how wonderful his cuddles were. He likes to put his head on my chest to listen to my heartbeat. It isn't super comfortable for me to sleep on my back, but I'm just the biggest simp and he can do whatever he wants. I usually run my fingers through his hair until he falls asleep. Or I put my nose in his hair, 'cause he always smells amazing, even when his hair is dirty.

Nick's pov

"Happy birthday, darlin'" Jamie woke me up with a strong hug and kisses.
I smiled and gave him a sleepy kiss back.
"Thank you, but why so damn early? Let me sleep woman." I buried my face in his neck.
"I am not the woman in this relationship, I'm taller than you."
"That's pretty sexist."
"I don't care. Now get up, I got you a present."

I opened the small box and took out a paper. It was a card from a tattoo studio.

"Okay so before you freak out, I just thought these friendship bracelets are getting old and its definitely super stupid but would you want to get a matching tattoo? Just something small that you can cover up if we ever break up or something. But we've been friends for so long so I don't think we will but if-"

I shushed him with my lips and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I would love to."

//

I cried when I got it done. We decided that the wrist would be the best place, which I immediately regretted. But it was worth it in the end. I got a tiny cookie, cause that's what I call Jamie. He got a ghost for some reason. Not sure why, but ghost cookies was a thing. I think the tattoos looked cute together.

// A month later //

"I've told you so many times, Jamie. There's nothing I can do. We found this cheap but good place an hour outside London. We will meet every weekend, and we can be with each other every day during school breaks."

We both had been crying for at least an hour by now. Dad got fired from his job, so we had no other choice but to move, since the rent was pretty high here. I had done anything I could to fix the situation, but there was nothing I could do.

"Please, I'll get a job or something. I don't want to leave Jamie."
My patents gave me that look. The one that just screams 'It doesn't matter what you do it's gonna be our way anyway'

//

I hated the new house, new town, new school, new everything. Jamie and I couldn't meet that often, but when we did it was so great. We stayed together for two years, then I was the one who suggested we took a break. He agreed. We were super busy with school and barely had time to call each other, let alone meet. Of course we still met, maybe once every two months. But it felt more like an emotionless hookup than anything that had to do with love.

// Nick is 28 //

How long has it been?

Since I looked into your sky blue eyes,
thinking that it's my favourite colour.

Since I put my head to your chest,
you running your fingers through my hair.

Since I fell asleep in your arms,
your warm body so close to my own.

Since you traced the lines of ink on my wrist, just like I would do with yours.

Since your lips found mine,
leaving me breathless and wanting more.

Since you touched me,
your name leaving my lips, cause no one has ever made me feel like you do.

Its been 9 years since I had you.

12th of April, 2009

That's the date I saw you again.

Your hair had grown down to your shoulders and you had facial hair, which was something new but oh my god, you've never looked hotter.
The man next to you was handsome too, tall, dark hair, pretty smile.
I understood why you picked him over me. You seemed happy, I couldn't lie. Would you be that happy if I was the one kissing you right now?

You went into some store and came back a bit later, and I was just going to leave when you called after me.
"Nick! Hi!" I cringed and turned around to greet you.
"Oh, hi Cookie!" I said, with a fake smile, which made you uncomfortable. I could tell.
"It's been long, eh?" You said going in for a hug. A fucking hug. After all those years.
"Oh, this is William, my fiancé." You said when you pulled away. I wanted nothing more than to punch both of you. Or kick you in the balls.

"Hi, nice to meet you," I said, not even looking at his hand which he put out for me to shake. Why would I?
You grabbed the hand. You said that you better get going. You left again.

My cookie was still on my wrist, the only tattoo I have. But when I saw yours, the ghost was covered by some song lyrics.

I spent 18 years longing for the man who saved me. But it wasn't until that moment I realised there is no future with you, Jamie.
