It was exciting.
Jungkook never expected he would be a father. A small part of him always assumed he would die alone, never finding anyone willing to accept him or the baggage of his past. When Jimin came into his life, maybe in the most unconventional way, it had saved him. Jimin saved him. Now, Jimin was giving him something he thought wasn't meant for him, a family. With his past now behind him, his trauma with his mother not controlling him, Jungkook felt free. He felt ready. Of course, the anxiety of a first pup was a bit overwhelming, knowing that Jimin was with him on this journey helped a lot. Jungkook stood beside the examination table that Jimin was currently laying on, shifting nervously on his feet as his eyes stared forward intently at the screen. Feeling the light squeeze of Jimin's hand which was intertwined with his own as they waited for the doctor to find their pup. Jimin was now at the six-month mark. His belly had grown quite a bit and was noticeable even under his baggier clothing. Jungkook had time to focus solely on Jimin now and he had to admit, he loved seeing Jimin like this. The other was warm and squishy. Glowing with this beautiful aura that made Jungkook's heart swell with love every time he laid his eyes on his mate and couldn't pull them away. Jungkook found himself constantly falling in love with Jimin over and over again.
"Ah!" The sudden sound from the doctor caught both of them, putting the couple on edge as she turned to look at them with a bright smile. "Found the little one."
Jimin and Jungkook both looked at the screen in unison and Jimin's breath hitched as his eyes widened when the doctor pointed to the screen. There it was. Their pup, it was still small, but it had a cute shape, almost like a bean. Jimin's eyes glossed with tears as he let out a soft laugh and couldn't help the huge smile that took over his face.
"I – It looks more like a human this time!" Jimin said, his voice squeaking a little with the laughter in between his words.
Jungkook was stuck, staring in awe of the sight before him. There it was their pup. He could almost make out a few features now. A nose, maybe a couple of toes and even the shape of the pup's eyes. Jimin turned his head, feeling the overwhelming happiness coming from Jungkook through their mated mark. Raising Jungkook's hand towards his lips, he kissed the back of the other's knuckles as he drew Jungkook's gaze down to him.
"Are you happy baby?" Jimin asked.
Jungkook's eyes were wide, making the other almost look childlike in his awe of the situation. Jungkook's expression slowly softened as he gave a small nod and smile, the crinkles at the edge of his eyes and a flash of bunny teeth made Jimin's heart melt. Jungkook nodded as he leaned down and pressed his forehead against Jimin's, stroking the fingers of his free hand through Jimin's hair as he let out a choked laugh.
"So happy, probably the happiest I have ever been." Jungkook said, nuzzling his face against Jimin's as the Omega giggled.
"Me too. We did that." Jimin said as Jungkook pulled back, gently pressing his lips against Jimin's before the two of them both looked back at the screen.
The doctor smiled fondly at the couple as she set the wand down and went to get some wipes for Jimin's stomach to clean off the gel.
"I will make sure to print the image out for you two. From what I can see, the pup is developing perfectly. I don't see any deformities and the tests we ran earlier all came back with excellent results, so if you just continue what you've been doing Jimin, I have high hopes your first pregnancy will be a success." The doctor said.
Jimin nodded, once his stomach was clean of the gel, he sat up with Jungkook's help and adjusted his sweater as he pulled it back down over his belly and gave it a few soft rubs as he smiled down at it.
"Did you hear that little one? We have to keep this teamwork up!" Jimin said.
Jungkook kissed the side of Jimin's head as he earned a soft, happy sound from the Omega. Helping Jimin down from the table, the two of them left after scheduling Jimin's next few visits in advance. Jimin stepped outside as Jungkook followed, the warmth of the sun felt amazing after such wonderful news. Jimin stretched his arms above his head, Jungkook gently guided him towards their car as he looked down at the other.
"Are you two hungry?" Jungkook asked.
Jimin blinked, taking a moment to think before he smiled and nodded up at the other.
"Starved!" Jimin said in the most dramatic tone he could muster.
Jungkook chuckled but nodded as he helped Jimin into the car and they went to Jimin's favorite place lately to pick up some lunch. It was calm, peaceful days like these that brought Jungkook confidence and comfort that everything really would be okay. He didn't have to be on edge or afraid, expecting the worst to happen at every given moment. It was nice.
But.
Nice things never truly lasted forever, no matter how much we wished for them to. When the pair got home, Jimin headed straight for the bedroom. Wanting to change out of his tight fitted tights and into some sweats. Jungkook went to the kitchen, putting the leftovers a way. It was quiet until Jungkook heard Jimin's phone ringing from the bedroom. He paused, curious as to who was calling Jimin. Jungkook knew he shouldn't eavesdrop, but it was kind of hard not to.
"Hello?" Jimin answered.
The alarms in his head wouldn't have gone off so quickly if Jungkook hadn't picked up the very quick, sudden shift in Jimin's usually milky sweet scent. Something was wrong. The way Jimin's scent soured told Jungkook that this was a phone call he hadn't expected or most likely wanted. His Alpha immediately went into protective overdrive and before he realized it, he'd made his way from the kitchen to the bedroom in record time. Jimin sat down on the edge of the bed, his face twisted up in an almost disturbed expression as he kept his gaze down casted.
"I – I am just surprised to hear from you, it has been a while." Jimin said, closing his eyes as Jungkook heard the heated voice of someone on the other end of the phone.
It was faint, but the voice sounded familiar. Jungkook's eyes narrowed as he stood there, feeling agitated and useless at the moment. Someone was upsetting his Omega and his Alpha wanted to just rip the phone out of Jimin's hand and snarl and growl into the phone and let this person know he would kill them if they didn't back off, but he held back the urge. Jungkook's jaw tightened as he kept his gaze trained on Jimin. Jimin slightly opened his eyes, glancing to the side at Jungkook, a slight frown gracing his lips.
"I know, I haven't forgotten. How could I?" Jimin said, his eyes glossed over with tears as he offered an apologetic smile towards his mate.
It was in that moment that things clicked. It could only be one person that had the ability to sour Jimin's mood so easily. The mother of Jimin's former lover.
In this situation, there really wasn't anything Jungkook could do.
