Singles Awareness Day

Valentine's Day is tomorrow, or should I say 'Singles Awareness Day'. This was the time of year when everyone admitted their love to another, and either got rejected or accepted. The shelves in every store were cluttered with those heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, over-sized teddy bears, and beautiful necklaces of silver and gold. Whenever I walked into my local Wal-Mart, there was never a time when I didn't notice some girl or guy finicking about what they should buy for their significant other.

This year was going to be the most miserable of them all, unfortunately. Usually, my friends Dinah, Normani, and Ally accompanied me on a girls' day out to deal with Valentine's Day, which we dubbed as Singles Awareness Day. Since we came up with the alternative name, I've denounced the original name and refused to say the words 'Valentine's Day' in a sentence or any other occasion. This year, Ally, Normani, and Dinah actually had boyfriends of their own. Ally was dating a guy named Troy, Normani was with Arin, and Dinah was dating someone else named Siope. Don't get me wrong, they are my favorite couples, but I just wished they were single for tomorrow. I wanted to have that girls' day out with them, as we usually did. I'm hoping that isn't too selfish of me to think.

So, there is just one question remaining. Do I have a crush on anyone, and do I plan on asking them to be my Valentine? Well, yes and no. There is this one girl. Yeah, that's right, I'm lesbian. Insult me if you must, but just know that your insults mean nothing. For the boys who wanted me to be their Valentine this year, well, sorry!

"Lauren!" Ally called over to me, as I sat by myself in the library at school.

I glanced up from reading one of my favorite pieces of literature, Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights', to see both Ally and Dinah walking in my direction.

"What's up?" I asked the two of them.

"We have a proposal for you!" Dinah said, excitedly.

"Yes, I'll marry you." I said, jokingly. "Just kidding. Where's Normani? Is she sucking face with Arin again?"

"No, that's just it! Normani is helping us with something." Dinah replied.

I raised my right eyebrow to let them know that I wanted to hear more about this 'proposal' of theirs. Dinah looked to Ally to explain their idea.

"Okay, so!" Ally began, slamming her hands on the table before me. "You're coming to dinner with us tomorrow night!"

I gave them both a confused look, and put a bookmark in my novel to save my spot when I shut it. "That's more like a demand, not a proposal. You guys need to understand that I want no part in your Singles Awareness Day activities. I refuse to me a seventh wheel."

"Come on, Lo. What do we need to do to convince you to go?" Ally asked.

"I don't know, find me a date maybe?"

"Okay, cool. We'll see you then! I'll pick you up tomorrow night at six!" she replied, and the two of them stormed off out of the library before I could manage another word.

Looks like I actually have plans tomorrow night.

(The following night...)

Ally and I arrived at Olive Garden together, where we would meet up with the others. During the whole ride, I did nothing but complain about this whole situation. I didn't want to be alone, but I didn't want to be surrounded by three couples either.

When we entered the restaurant, the two of us looked for the table where the others were seated. It took us about a minute to actually spot them because the restaurant was packed full of couples and families.

As we made our way over to the table, I noticed an extra person. When I got closer, I realized who the person was. It was my crush, Camila Cabello. She sat with an empty chair next to her, that I assumed was for me. She wore a sexy black dress that hugged her body perfectly, and red lipstick that made her lips look so nice and kissable. I had to hold myself back, however, because it was very possible that she was only here because my friends threatened her with their 'or else' statements. When I made my way over to the empty seat, I took note of everyone's giggling and smiling.

"Is this seat taken?" I asked, before sitting down.

Camila looked up to me with a smile and answered, "Yeah, some beautiful lesbian has it claimed already."

I sat down next to her and gazed into her deep, chocolate brown eyes, as she appeared to have something to say. As she gazed back into my emerald green eyes, her perfect lips separated and she began to speak.

"So your friends tell me that you've liked me for over a year. Why didn't you tell me?" she asked with a smirk.

        "Well, I think you're straight." I answered.

She burst into laughter and said to me, "Are you kidding?! I'm one-hundred percent gay! I've liked you for a long time too! Like, remember when we had Algebra together last year? I couldn't focus because I couldn't take my eyes off of you! And I'm literally so nervous because I was so scared that they weren't telling me the truth. Look at you! Then look at me. What do you see in me?"

"For starters, you've got a beautiful, raspy voice that drives me crazy. Your personality is kind and gentle, and your looks make models jealous. You're just an all-around perfect person, and I would be more than happy to call you mine. If you feel the same, of course." I poured my feelings out to her.

Camila crashed her soft lips into mine, and I was at ease. Who knew that this moment, that I have only dreamed of happening, would actually come true? After about ten seconds, we separated for a moment.

"Happy Singles Awareness Day, Camila." I said to her.

"Singles Awareness Day? There's nothing that anyone needs to be aware of now that you have me." she smiled. "Happy Valentine's Day, Lauren."

I smiled back, knowing that the girl of my dreams was actually mine, and said, "Happy Valentine's Day, Camila."
