Knock Knock
" Come in," I yawned.
I looked at my clock, it was 9:00am and I had missed school again.
"Rise and shine, sunshine," mum smiled, walking in holding a tray.
It had toast and orange juice on it, mmm my favourite.
She carefully placed it on me and I started to eat.
"If you hadn't already noticed, you've missed school again. I think today would be a great day to start drawing those pictures for dad," she said, sitting on my bed, " Then you can give them to him tonight, when we visit."
"Yeah, I'll get started on them, once I'm up," I smiled.
"Okay, I'm just going to get changed."
Once I'd got dressed and layed out an old white bed sheet and got an A3 piece of paper and started painting.
I painted a picture of mum and dad, mum was wearing a white summer dress with blue flowers dotted over it, dad was wearing a tennis top and jeans. They were both smiling looking at each other.
I then left it to dry and painted a picture of the rocking chair that dad always used to sit on.
I left that to dry and I got an A4 piece of paper and drew a pond with flowers and wildlife all over it, then I carefully painted it.
I was on my last painting of a sunset with two silhouettes walking across the sun (mum and dad) when I heard mum scream.
I rushed into her bedroom to find my old stepdad with his hand around mums mouth.
I froze.
"Come with me," he said in a husky voice.
He grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the flat and down the stairs.
He shoved me into his car and me and mum huddled together in the back.
"I heard that your ever so brave husband got put in prison and now there's no one here to protect you," he said.
"H-how d-did y-y-you g-get out?" mum stuttered.
"Out of jail? I got out a year ago Flora, I never planned on coming back because you had that tough husband but when I found out he got put behind bars I couldn't resist," he smiled, wickedly.
"Oh," was all mum managed to say
