Court

I was aloud to get into court, but only for half an hour as a witness for the rest of it I stayed with Grandpa and Grandma Robertson.
"Julie Robertson, tell us the story of you walking home and your dad saving you,"dad's lawyer smiled.
"I was walking home and I took the shortcut through the allyway. I was walking through it when a big man grabbed me and put his arm round my neck another one came at me with a knife. I screamed and I guess dad heard me. I closed my eyes and waited for the guy to kill me but he never did. I opened my eyes and saw dad surrounded by men lying on the ground," I said.
"Was the man holding you still there?"
"Yes, but then he dropped me and ran off."
"Okay. And you're dad's a karate teacher so that's how he saved you?"
"Yes. He also saved me and my mum from mum's psycho ex husband, Billy, but when dad was gone Billy came and got us. We need dad to help us!" in the last sentence I was yelling, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Okay, enough questions."
I was removed from the stand and Grandpa and Grandma Robertson came over to greet me.
"I thought you were great," Grandpa Robertson smiled, patting me on the back.
I smiled back.
"Let's go and put some food in your stomach, to take your mind off things," Grandma Robertson said with a smile, pushing me gently out of the door.
We went to Lickedey Splitz (the best ice-cream shop in the world).
Grandma Robertson only had a drink but me and Grandpa Robertson had a gigantic ice-cream topped with all the toppings.
It was great at first, I totally forget about the court but then Grandma and Grandpa Robertson started talking about it.
"I hope he's okay," Grandma Robertson said, shakily.
"He will be, they're just doing the whole court thing just to prove he hasn't done anything wrong," Grandpa Robertson smiled, comforting Grandma Robertson.
"You're probably right but I'm just worried, I have a bad feeling about it."
"Well you would, you're his mother, it's your job to worry."
Grandma Robertson gave out a little giggle and they just stopped talking about it.
"So how's school?" Grandpa Robertson asked, changing the subject.
"Fine," I replied, like every other teen would.
"Is that Polly still an annoying prat?"
"Yes," I groaned, remembering that evil witch.
Grandpa Robertson laughed.
"The thingy might be done and if it's not we'll just go home and watch a film," Grandma Robertson said, getting up out of her seat.
We went to the court and it wasn't done (it had another hour to go!).
We went home and watched 'Ted'.
Believe it or not Grandma and Grandpa Robertson love that film!
Half way through the film mum came home, without dad.
"W-where's dad?" I asked.
"He's been held back, there's another court meeting tomorrow," she sighed, miserably.
"Julie, I thinks it's time you go to bed," Grandma Robertson nodded.
I sighed and got up.
"Goodnight," I waved to everyone.
"Goodnight," they mumbled in reply.
I got ready for bed and brushed my teeth and hair.
I lay in bed awake for ages, listening in to their conversations.
"I had a bad feeling about that thingy today. Alfred, remember I said in that restaurant," I heard Grandma Robertson say, wisely.
"Betsy, it's all going to be fine," mum said, "It's just that we didn't have enough time to finish the hearing so we're doing it tomorrow. I was just upset because I thought Max would get out today."
"Well he didn't," Grandma Robertson mumbled, quietly.
I heard mum sigh.
"Betsy we better get to bed," Grandpa Robertson told Grandma Robertson.
"Yes let's, I'll see you in the morning, Flora," Grandma said.
"Goodnight," mum whispered.
Grandma and Grandpa Robertson were sleeping in mum's bedroom and mum was sleeping in the pull out bed.
I was still awake after they put the lights out.
I slept for a bit but I kept having nightmares, and by the time it was 3:34am I was lying awake in bed, staring at my ceiling.
I had fourteen texts from Logan but I couldn't be bothered to read them.
I tried reading but honestly the book was rubbish.
In the end I went through to the living room to watch TV.
I found out mum was awake and she was watching 'The Big Bang Theory.'
I sat down and watched it with her, we didn't say a word.
Once it had finished mum turned off the telly and turned to me.
"I know you were listening in," mum said, suddenly.
I didn't say anything.
"What Grandma Robertson said isn't true, nothing bad's going to happen. Dad'll be with us soon. It's just that they need more time to figure it out," she said.
"I know," I croaked.
My throat was dry so I couldn't speak properly.
"Good. Now go back to bed and try to get some sleep, I think you should go to school tomorrow. You won't be needed in dad's court so I think, to take your mind off things, you should go to school."
"Okay," I said, hugging mum and walking off to my room.
As I got in bed, I realised how tired I was and I just collapsed.
Mum woke me up at half seven and I got ready for school.
I texted Logan to tell him I was coming back.
It was quarter past eight when I left.
I quickly ran past the allyway and met Logan at the park.
We walked to school together and he asked me questions I simply just didn't want to answer.
When I got to school Polly came up to me.
"How did your dad's hearing go?" She smiled, wickedly.
"Fine, he's having another one today," I said, shoving past her.
I managed to pass through the whole day at school and as the bell was about to go for last period Mrs Reed asked me to stay behind.
"How did it go?" she asked, as everyone left.
"I don't know. He's been asked back for another hearing and I don't know what that means," I croaked, tears running down my face.
"Oh here now," she said, giving me a big (non-teacherly) hug, " I'm sure it went fine. My dad got called back for a second hearing and it turned out they didn't have enough time and the next day he was back at home with us."
"Thanks Mrs Reed," I mumbled into her shirt.
"Right, off you go. I understand if I don't see you tomorrow but I hope I do," she smiled, gently pushing me out off the door.
"What was all that about," Logan asked, as we walked out the reception doors.
"Em...nothing," I said, deciding to keep our little conversation a secret. I'm sure Mrs Reed would hate her reputation ruined as 'the teacher from hell' by giving me a little comforting hug.
